tern Exactly what Skarde said. It's likely that I'm cautious in such a way because my early college was strict on rules regarding how you write and word things. They were on TOP of sources like hounds. It was honestly kinda scary. Good thing they knew that I read and write a lot. O_o

tern One that preserves the meaning would be "non-essential", though it doesn't quite convey the feeling of being expensive that luxury does. I wouldn't worry too much about being suspected of plagiarism. As an avid thesaurus user, I've never had a problem, and sentence structure matters more for your natural voice.

tern Hey, if it works, use it, lol. Sometimes you just gotta recreate and reduce.

petri yeah i just deleted it and did something else, it works a lot better

tern Most of the synonyms for luxury appear too posh or wouldn't make sense in context. Depending on your usual writing style, you could also be suspected of potential plagiarism because you're using words and/or terms outside of your normal vernacular.

help i need a word thats like luxury here but not privlege because that undermines my point 'But art is a luxury, something that you save up for. Commissions are a one-time purchase, not a subscription, and are... '

I loved writing papers in high school. Teachers would give us assignments three papers long and I would be like "Oh! So the length of a decent sized fanfic!" That's how I mostly got through ELA and college writing classes. Just treat everything like a fanfic, no matter the subject. :')

tern Oh! Then that should be fine! Like she mentioned, as long as your voice is heard.

petri eeeeh its too late its due tonight im just gonna throw them in there because i only want like one point from each
TheFlyingKitten
tern Ah, got it. I see where she's coming from; as long as you have enough of your own points and statements within the assignment, 4 sources should be fine. But I would make sure to ask her for clarification first, since all teachers are different.

petri i don't think so? though earlier in the week she sent out an email that was like 'don't use too many sources otherwise your voice will get lost'
