So the unit I was supposed to be on this morning? The battery was super dead. It's been dead ever since it was leaking battery acid a few days ago and my boss "quick fixed" it. Low and behold, it's not actually fixed, it can't hold its charge after you turn the unit off. Me and my partner even got blamed and gently reminded to not leave the power on, it'll kill the battery. Yesterday, it took everything to get the battery to work again.
Now we come to today. I roll up, grab the cap, keys and jump bag and to my surprise the unit isn't unlocking even though I'm spamming the unlock button. So I have to do it manually. I get in and try to start the unit so I can do the check off.
It won't start.
The battery needs at least 12 volts because it needs to power the engine and the patient compartment.
The voltage was below 6.
It was also then I discovered that, when the battery is dead, you can't remove the keys from the ignition. It locks the keys to the ignition because that only makes perfect sense.
I call my boss, tell him about it, and he says to leave the rig unlocked, he'll take care of it. I did, it was unlocked enough for me and my partner to get in, grab something, transfer things from it into another unit, shut the doors and be on our way. With the keys still locked in the ignition.
I get a call from my boss.
He says that the unit is locked. He can't get in because the keys are in the unit. An issue that never would've happened if he just replaced the battery.
He accused me of locking the unit.
The defeat in his voice when I said the unit was unlocked when we left it... mmmmmm..... priceless.
