A watermark is a logo, text, or pattern that is intentionally superimposed onto another image. Its purpose is to make it more difficult for the original image to be copied or used without permission.

Now that we've got that out of the way, welcome to the casual discussion about watermarks because I'm always curious about what other artists or art-buyers do.

So, consider answering these questions for me? :0

Are you an artist or an art buyer? [Or both?]
Do you reguarly watermark your images?
What makes you watermark an image?
What does your watermark look like?
Are there certain images you don't watermark?
Do you have multiple watermarks or just one?

I haven't bought much art on this site but offsite I sometimes add watermarks to my favorite works.. like Really Heavy watermarks because hey hands off my characters.

edit: ^ above. these watermarks are just "i love them sm" written in various ways LMAO

As an artist: I watermark my designs but my headshots are 100x100 pixels size I just don't sorry 😭 I just add a littol signature on the side- watermarks don't stop tracers/heavy referencers what can I do pensivecowboy

ALSO people's toyhouses add their own watermarks automatically if they want to- so mmm yeah.

Design watermarks: "marshpup" + "unsold design" instead of "not yours" because it's more clear in my opinion.

i tend not to watermark unless it's like, a ych or something.

i used to watermark all my art, but only for a little bit. was very hard to find a way to make them noticeable, but not too noticeable that it kinda "ruins" the art, y'know? just ended up giving up on them entirely.
