Hello, everyone! We've noticed there's been a bit of confusion regarding palettes and the images used within them, so we wanted to make a quick clarification to help everyone stay on the same page.
Any images used in a palette are still considered images being used on WolfPlay, which means they must follow all of WolfPlay's artwork rules. This applies whether the palette is made for yourself, shared with friends, given away for free, or sold to other players.
In other words, palettes may not include images that are:
-
Copyrighted without permission.
-
AI-generated where they are not permitted under our rules.
-
Improperly credited or uncredited.
-
Stolen or taken from unsupported sources.
Creating or selling a palette does not change the requirements for the images inside it. The same rules that apply to avatars, banners, forum images, and other artwork also apply to palette graphics.
As palettes have become more popular, we've started seeing more cases where images included in them don't meet our artwork guidelines. Going forward, we'll be paying a little closer attention to ensure everything being shared or sold on-site is compliant with our existing rules.
If you are a palette creator, please take a few moments to look over any palettes you currently have available. If any images or credits need to be updated, now is a great time to do so. It helps avoid headaches later and ensures everyone involved is using artwork appropriately.
If you've purchased a palette and later discover that it contains images which don't comply with WolfPlay's artwork rules, please don't panic. Simply reach out to a moderator and we'll help you sort out the situation. In most cases, the palette creator will be asked to update the images or credits so the palette becomes compliant. If that isn't possible, they may instead need to work with you on a refund or another suitable resolution.
If you're ever unsure whether an image or source is acceptable, please don't hesitate to ask a member of staff. We'd always rather answer a quick question beforehand than have someone unknowingly run into issues later.
For anyone who would like a refresher on our artwork requirements, including crediting, stock images, hotlinking, and approved sources, you can find our full artwork guide here:
Thank you, as always, for helping us keep WolfPlay a place where artists are properly credited and everyone's work is respected.
