simple dragon riders. maybe forbidden love between rider and royalty, or two riders on rivaling sides, etc. maybe an executioner is requested to hold a rider prisoner until trial but the two grow close and the rider is able to convince the executioner that they are innocent?
A world full of dragons who are willing to bond to humans. There are x number of schools across the world each for a element of dragon, (lightning, fire, water, sand, and whatever ones we want). Each one located in a different continent based on the element.
Every year (or every biyearly, or five years, whatever works best), they hold a tournament (can shift throughout the continents like the Olympics, lol). With different challenges, and the winner gets a great prize (well have to think of something cool, lol). And although there isnt necessarily a war going on, certain elements clash more than others (water and fire, etc.) and so friendships, romances, etc. arent necessarily allowed. But our characters meet during the beginning of the tournament and things start to shift?
And if we want to make it more interesting, we could introduce a new enemy that plans to wipe out all the dragons and so the tournament gets interrupted when half of the dragons get taken out by this enemy and so our characters have to work together?
what if we combine that with the executioner thing? since the executioner would technically be royalty or close to them at least, there could still be that sort of tension. then once this stray enemy attacks, they're sort of forced to work together but for different reasons? the executioner wants to protect the royalty from the threat, and the rider is obviously bonded to a dragon. they could sort of show each other "their worlds" if that makes sense and over time they bond over different things, but considering the original dynamic, they could still struggle.
the rider could be held prisoner for assumed cheating somehow (paying off people, etc). executioner is just doing their job, lmao.
the grand prize for the tournament could be lifelong support from the royal family. basically like the victors in the hunger games maybe? they have housing away from the common folk, have access to the castle, etc. that sort of thing.
Hm, I honestly dont know. Maybe like a wyvern? A being similar to a dragon, hence the reason they could defeat dragons? And they got wiped out by the dragons a long time ago, but somehow came back (a hidden egg, someone brought them back through magic?) and want revenge?
