I did a thing, I am proud of it and happy with it, but I have a feeling that while I am on the right track I am still kind of lost. My main question would be shading, I have two versions: V1 one shadow V2 two shadows, or like one deeper shadow and one lighter shadow for face

Now, I'm not a profesional/good artist, so I won't put out any advice but I'm just going to comment that I prefer V2. :)

Good art here! I like how easy on the eyes it is. I prefer V1, your style is quite nice. I think what I can notice first in terms of the shading is the way you shaded the chest fur. I think it could receive a bit more volume there, for instance shaping it along with the fur (more triangular or attached to the lines) instead of the more circular look. The circular appearance makes it look more flat. The chest fur's shading contrasts so much with the others too that it's difficult to tell where the light / lights are, and more than that, volume again Another thing I noticed is the lining detail. The fur around the eyes is fine and detailed (which is fine! you probably aimed to do that and you nailed it), however the fur around the chest is simplified and bouncy. Maybe the chest fur could use some of those refined lines for uniformity in the lineart, or the eye fur could be simplified. Whichever one calls to you more. Other than that, I have to say you did the wolf's head anatomy super well. I love the detail on it, it shows you know what you're doing there.

I definitely think the second one is better for showing volume! Of course it depends on your preference of style, but varying strength and darkness of shadows is a great way to imply 3d shapes :D

Thank you a lot for guidance <3 I'll try to implement it and see how it works out (chest hair looks bit off to me too X3 however I could not pinpoint what exactly)

Thank you ^^ and I am eh on a fence about what I wanna do with shadows exactly so yeah, I think I need to draw more in order to figure it out. I do wanna imply volume for sure, but not exactly use gradual shadows that are more realistic, but something more simple I guess like in comics - which is why I am like, version 1 is closer to that idea, but for this art in particular I prefer what version 2 looks like so dunno X)

i definitely prefer v2! if you're wanting to further deepen the shadows i would add some sort of lighting! simple rim lighting following the edges could help with dimension and such. another quick note - it seems like there isn't a direct light source that you're following (like is it coming from the left or the right?). i would establish that and that's where you could deepen the shadows and also where you could decide where to place highlights and such for more depth. hopefully that makes sense lol
