Realized we approach rp's kinda opposite, and now I'm curious about other folks. Do y'all create characters first, and then build the plot and setting around them, or do you prefer to create the setting and the plot before making characters to fit into the world?
When I first began writing, I usually created settings first, but so far this year it's been character first always. My worlds revolve around my characters; the world changes for them just as much as vice versa. For others' plots / settings, I typically adapt my existing characters to fit.

@Pudding Cup: Can't wait to see it! For Sleepy's contest I'm also going to be making an sort-of alien, but not really.
@Honeybee: Make a new one. For both contests, characters can't be premade. I totally get the feeling of making characters for the sake of existing characters. I hadn't noticed this before, but recently I'm often making characters in pairs because siblings or best friends relationships allow for more possibilities. |
