Im a new member and have come across soooo may alters while exploring and i never have anything to burn. What do you even burn on an alter?

You can craft various items that can be offered, for example The Gore Bundle. If you have some stuff that can be crafted in to an offering, you'll see what you still need from your 'Craft' page. These items can be found via exploring or buying from the marketplace.
