Creating alliance with full alliances

I am already a part of three alliances. I know I'm not premium, but I'm thinking about getting it and want to know: will it let me create one? Are you technically a member of an alliance you create? Does it take up a slot? Will I need to buy more alliance slots/leave one of my alliances to create a new alliance? Thanks!

Yes, as an alliance owner myself, I can say - with confidence - that you will either have to leave one of your current alliances or buy more slots.
