The game only started notifying you of gained Battle CP recently. It just wasn't posted on the news. :)
Pups already gained Battle CP before, you just didn't get messages like you do for the other stats. Now you do.

I updated the battle code for something new next month.

There was always pup learning code, although I'm not sure if it ever worked before or not. I may have fixed it, I just dont remember as I was in the middle of adding new stuff.

So, if it works now, Hooray!
