When Darkness Falls
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘

The war between the dragons, elves, and humans has ended. Peace has been settled in Alilaya, as a new pact was sealed, allowing humans to become dragon riders as well, alongside the elves.

But all is not as calm as it seems. An ancient darkness is stirring, a darkness the lords of each race believed had been sealed away millennia ago, using a powerful magic that originates from all three races. Though they are believed to be protected by the Dragon Riders, infiltrators have risen among the ranks of the Dragon Riders. These infiltrators work for this dark force, a being known as Galonyx. Few still exist that know the name, a majority of them living amidst the elves, and all of them quite old.

Galonyx was once a normal elf, living among his kind. However, he began to search after dark magic. Magics forbidden across the continent of Alilaya. Magics so forbidden, that the unquestionable punishment for usage of these spells… is death.

Can the three races, dragons, humans, and elves, join together to catch these infiltrators and stop Galonyx? Or will the world be destroyed, and the three races along with it.

─── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ───

This roleplay is based on the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, loosely based on the How To Train Your Dragon series, and draws inspiration from Imperial Sand’s “Burning Embers” dragon and rider roleplay.

About the Dragons
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘
Dragons are immortal. Save illness or severe injury, a dragon can live forever. Dragon bondings can happen more than once in a lifetime. The bonds begin weak, not very strong. A flicker of emotions can be felt, and only felt from a couple feet away at most. As time progresses, this connection will grow stronger, until Rider and Dragon can speak and communicate from miles apart. Bonding with a dragon will increase an elf’s magical abilities and strength. For a human, if they already have the ability to use magic, it will also increase their abilities and strength. If a human does not already possess the ability to use magic, then the bond grants the ability to use magic. However, like the bond, it will begin quite weak and slowly become stronger over time. Bondings usually are created because of a similarity in personalities.

When a Rider or Dragon dies, the companion that still lives will continue to live, and has the ability to bond again with another.

Dragon eggs incubate for 6 months before hatching. Expecting mothers will wait 6 months before laying a clutch of eggs, ranging from 1 egg up to 13 eggs. Young dragons are born without fire, however they can blow smoke. At the age of 3 months, they are capable of breathing flame. At the age of 5 years, the dragon reaches its fully grown size. For the purposes of this roleplay, dragons will be young adults to adult, aging 5 years to 100 years. Maximum height will be 35 feet. There is no limit on body length and wingspan.

Dragons can range across all colors, often being a main color, and having a few varying shades of that same color, paler scales on their underbellies. Markings are varied, as are wing types, whether feathered or bat-like. However, no wings are not possible. Furred dragons are extremely rare, and not typical. For the purposes of this roleplay, I will limit the number of furred dragons to only 3.

Dragons live in the mountain range, known as the Great Ridge, that bisects the continent. The mountain range is very tall, the only safe passage being by flight for the majority of the length of the mountains.

Dragons can only breathe fire.

About The Elves
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘

The elves, or the fair folk, as often referred to by humans, live North of the Great Ridge that bisects the continent. A majority of the land they inhabit is covered by trees, vast forests of oak, pine, beech, rowan, aspen, and birch trees. Their homes are sort of similar to a hobbits (for reference, search up the hobbit homes from the movies on google). These homes are set into the sides of grassy hills, hollowed out and finished with smooth, carved wood. The elves love nature, and work hard not to disturb it. They are one with nature.

Elves have high cheekbones and sharp eyes. They stand anywhere from 5’ up to 5’10. They have pointed ears, which can be anywhere from small, not very noticeable ears, to long, sharper points that are more noticeable. Men as well as women typically have longer hair, however pixie cuts are also common, as well as other shorter hair styles. Elves have abnormal strength, being capable of run faster and lift heavier objects. They have graceful builds, typically not heavily muscled, and slender.

Clothing is often quite fine and intricate, as elves are known to sing their clothing into existence from whatever material they are using. These songs are laced with magic, and are how elves create their homes without disturbing the ecosystem. Though most clothes are typically intricate, clothing can also be simple. Women and men typically wear pants and shirts, however some of the elven women will also wear dresses. These are typically elves of higher ranks.

Life spans are longer than humans, however they are not immortal. Elves can live typically up to 1000 years, sometimes going past. Every 100 years marks a decade for a human in their growth. An elf that is 130 would be 13 years old. Despite being so young physically, elf children are still vastly wise and intelligent, having lived long enough to learn much in their time.

┌────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┐
About the Humans
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘

The humans live in a large village south of the Great Ridge. Their homes are typically built of stone and wood, and are laid out around a vast stone castle. The city forms a sort of circle, coming to a more precise circle around the center of town. There is a large gap that separates the castle from the town, divided by a deep river. A large bridge crosses this river, allowing for safe passage to the castle (for reference images, search for images of Twilight Princess Hyrule Castle on google). A much less dense forest than the elven forest separates the distance from the Great Ridge to the city.

Do I really need to explain their appearance? They’re humans. Quite simple.

Clothing is typically simple, women often wearing dresses, while men wear pants and shirts, sometimes with a leather vest over it. The higher among the social ranks they are, the more intricate and fine their clothing will be, often made of silk.

Life spans typically range up to 75 years, very rarely going past. Medical talent isn’t as advanced as it is today (this is a more medieval time), so life spans don’t tend to extend very long.

About Magic
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘

Magic is a commonly mysterious thing. The ability is more prevalent among the elves, as they are creatures of magic. This skill is varied among the elves, some having stronger magic than others, but they all have it. Among the humans, the skill is less common. Humans may possess the ability, though it is much weaker than that of the elves. When bonded with a dragon, the ability becomes stronger among the elves. If a human bonds with a dragon, if they didn’t already have the ability to use magic, they will now possess this ability, though it starts out rather weak and progressively becomes stronger over time. Among humans that already have the talent, the ability works the same, being strengthened and sometimes surpassing that of a typical elf.

The most important rule of magic that you must understand, is that magic is limited by your physical capabilities. Magic takes just as much strength to do as it would to do the action with your own hands. It is also affected by distance. Casting spells at a distance will take a substantially larger amount of energy than it would to cast the spell right next to the object.

Dragons, like elves, are creatures of magic. However, their abilities are vastly different from that of elves and humans. Dragons can work changes in unknown ways, from transforming sandstone into diamond, to fixing an unfixable object. Despite decades of research, no one can explain these abilities, nor can they be predicted. Dragons have no control over this ability, as it is quite random. It is typically brought on by very, very powerful emotion, and does not take the same amounts of energy that normal magic would.

About Bonding
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘

Bondings can happen more than once in a lifetime. Dragons will have several throughout their lives, because of the fact that they live much longer than both humans and elves. There is a bonding ceremony held once every 10 years, at the foot of the Great Ridge mountains on either side of the border. Humans and elves will line up, and the dragons will inspect them. If you are lucky enough to be chosen, a connection will form between your minds, linking you together intimately. Emotions can be felt, though muddled, and thoughts can be heard more clearly. This bond will strengthen over time, and within a few years, connections can be made from miles apart. Emotions felt will become clearer, and will often affect the partner. For example, if the Rider is mad about something, the dragon will feel irritable. If the dragon is sad, the Rider will feel sad as well, and so on.

About the Rankings (Human/Elf)
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘

King/Queen
The King/Queen is the ruler of their respective race. There can only be one of each for each race (so one king or queen or both for each race). Whichever role is claimed first for that race, will be directly descended from the royal family of that race, and so will have more power than the other (for example, Person A claims the role of Queen of the humans. Person B claims the role of King of the humans. Person A has more authority in their role). This role will require a roleplay example to have.

Second in Command
The Second in Command is, well, the Second in Command of their race. They are responsible for taking over the role of conducting orders if something happens to the King or Queen. These are the most trusted advisor, often very close friends with the King/Queen. There may only be one per race.

General
The general of each race is in charge of the army. They carry out the King or Queen’s orders in battle. There may only be one per race.

Warriors
The warriors of each race fight to protect their lands. These are peoples that have already completed their training to bond with a dragon. There may be multiple per race.

Trainees
Trainees are the members of each race that are training to become a dragon rider. This means that they are put through rigorous training to get their strength and stamina up, so that magic won’t just immediately kill them when selected for bonding.

About the Rankings (Dragons)
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘

Head Dragon
The head dragon is in charge of the dragons in the Rider Order. This means that they command the dragons separately of their Riders within the Rider Order. This is typically the oldest and most experienced of their Order. There may only be one.

General
The general is the second in command of the dragons. They take over charge if something happens to the Head Dragon. Like the human and elf Second in Command, they are often the closest advisor of the Head Dragon, and are typically their mate. There may only be one.

Warriors
The warriors are dragons that fight for their order. These are the strongest dragons of their ranks. There may be multiple.

Head Hunter
The Head Hunter organizes hunting parties. As dragons eat quite a lot, they are responsible for hunting for their own prey, as humans and elves simply are incapable of providing enough food for the dragons. There may only be one.

Hunters
The Hunters are the dragons that hunt for their race. These are typically smaller dragons, and often the fastest and stealthiest. As dragons eat quite a lot, they are responsible for hunting for their own prey, as humans and elves simply are incapable of providing enough food for the dragons. There may be multiple.

Trainees
The Trainees are dragons that are newly bonded. They are still in training for living with humans and elves. Trainees are typically younger dragons, whom have never been bonded. They can be older, though this is less common. In either case, a trainee is a dragon that has never bonded in their life, and so must complete training for living bonded with an elf/human. There may be multiple.

Rules
└────── ⟣⋆・⟡・⋆⟢ ──────┘
  1. Follow all WP rules.
  2. No godmodding.
  3. Please no attention seeking. Drama is fun, but don’t be constantly seeking attention, i.e. getting hurt, being attacked, etc.
  4. Hate the character, not the person.
  5. You must ask permission before killing/severely injuring another person’s character.
  6. This is a semi literate roleplay. 100+ words minimum is preferred, but not required. Writers block happens. I experience it myself, so it’s totally okay.
  7. Characters not posted for for a week will be removed. Please PM me if something comes up, and I will make accommodations.
  8. Characters can and may die. New characters may be created to replace characters that die.
  9. There is a limit of 4 characters per person. Please keep the numbers even, 2 dragons and 2 human and elf. Genders are up to you, but I request that you have at least one character of the opposite gender so that things can be diverse.
  10. There can only be up to 4 traitors. I may adjust this if there is a lot of interest in this role.
  11. First come, first serve for roles. You may reserve roles, however if the application is not filled out within 48 hours for a higher up position, your reservation will be removed.
  12. I will be accepting one application for a rider paired with Neryth, whom is the Head Dragon. I will require a roleplay sample for this role, as it is an important role. Remember, this role is a senior position. They must have been a rider for at LEAST 10 years in order to be qualified for this position.
  13. Not all human/elf characters have to be Dragon Riders. Though I know it would be preferred. However, I would ask that at least one of your human/elf characters be a non rider so that we can keep things even. Dragons also do not have to be paired.
In order to make sure everyone is happy with their dragon/rider pairing, I encourage reaching out to whomever you think would be a good match for your dragon/rider. If both parties approve, please DM me your pairing, and it will be added to the list.
