Xavier is a bit taller than average, standing roughly at 5’10. He has a leaner appearance compared to other guys, and his weight is slightly lower than average as well. Ranch work keeps Xavier in shape though, so his muscle mass is right where it needs to be. Xavier’s skin is a deep golden tan, courtesy of the time spent in the sun and his Hispanic heritage. He has very few scars, and the only noticeable mark is a small dark birthmark on the back of his right hand.

Xavier’s hair is pure black. It is nice and thick, with a couple of faint waves here and there. It’s an average length; not super short, but short enough to where it doesn’t get in the eyes. Xavier normally leaves it looking a bit messy, but on special occasions he will slick it back. His face is smooth with gentle features, and his nose is more refined with a pointed tip. Xavier’s eyes are almond shaped, and they are dark brown in color.

On warmer days, Xavier wears a plain white t-shirt with jeans and sturdy dark brown boots. When the weather is a little colder, he puts on a solid color hoodie to keep warm. If Xavier is at a competition, he will wear a nice flannel shirt with chaps. He can usually be found wearing a light tan cattleman hat and a silver cross necklace.

Xavier has a friendly and steady voice that sits comfortably in the middle of the vocal range. It is usually smooth, but if he's agitated or angry at someone, it will take on a sharper tone.

Backstory:

Xavier was born in northern Nevada. He grew up in a small town with his parents and five older brothers. He and his brothers were homeschooled by their mom, who had a degree as a high school teacher. His dad was a mechanic and taught him how to work with tools. Xavier’s family lived on a lower income, so he often helped out by doing numerous odd jobs around town. When he grew older, he began working at his uncle’s cattle ranch. With his uncle’s help, Xavier was able to buy his own horse at a local livestock auction. The horse, who he named Fuego, was a badly trained and fiery two year old. However, with a lot of patience and hard work, Xavier worked out all the kinks and managed to transform Fuego into a suitable ranch horse. He has worked with Fuego ever since, and the two have made a great team. To get him into the academy, his uncle talked to some old friends who put in a good word for him. He also promised to help out at the barn in order to cover costs.

Appearance (with height):

Fuego is a good size, standing at 15.3 hands. He has a lighter, leaner build with longer legs (courtesy of his Thoroughbred blood), but he still has a hint of the stocky build and muscle of his Paint side also. His coat is a deep dark red, while his legs and muzzle are shaded black. He has strong black hooves, compliments of his mustang ancestry. His mane is flowy and reaches to the bottom of his neck. It is two-toned with a mixture of black and white. His long, thick tail is mainly black, with a lot of white hairs at its base. He has the overo gene, so there are connected splashes of white patterning across both sides of his coat. There is no white down his back or on his legs. The only other white marking is a straight blaze running down his face and nose. Fuego’s eyes are a dark chocolate brown with a kind look to them. There is a brand with the letters RW on his left hindquarter, standing for the Royal Warden Ranch where he was born.

Personality:

Fuego is a hard working, energetic gelding. He doesn’t do well with harsh aids or too much pressure, which is why he hates close contact with the bit. With other horses, he is higher up in the hierarchy and makes sure to tell the lower ones that he is the boss. Before Xavier bought him, Fuego didn’t have very good ground manners. However, after being worked with, Fuego can be led pretty easily with a rope halter. He stands well tied, despite his desire to get straight to work. Fuego is a bit sensitive to his surroundings, and occasionally needs a bit of coaxing around things he has never seen before. Fuego is a very easy keeper, apart from his tendency to rip blankets and pace in his stall if he’s been cooped up. Fuego is also very inquisitive, and will search peoples’ pockets for treats. His athletic ability is incredible. He gets his speed from his Thoroughbred side, agility and cow sense from his Paint side, and his surefootedness and tenacity from his Mustang side.

Likes: Treats, small bodies of water, being in charge, getting to work, etc.

Dislikes: Prolonged stall time, when a lower horse insults him, aggressive people, too much pressure, etc.

Is scared of: Loud noises, lights flashing, fire.

Backstory:

Fuego was born on a large ranch that specialized in crossing stock-type horses with Thoroughbreds. When he and the other foals were weaned, they were gathered into a large corral to begin their training. Fuego hated the harsh training methods they used, and severely backtracked in his attitude towards people. When he was two, he was sent to a local livestock auction with other unpromising two year olds. He was bought by Xavier, who worked out Fuego’s quirks. Once Fuego got better around people, Xavier started using him as a ranch horse. Fuego’s fiery athletic ability, paired with Xavier’s patience and horsemanship, made the two a great pair.
