I'm not realizing how all my characters are just all really really strange. Love him though <3
Theodore Boulanger
Strangely enough, he goes as “Teddy” rather than “Theo.”
Age:
20
Gender/Pronouns:
Male - he/him
Personality:
Similar to a Croissant, this guy has many layers. Dang that’s a sucky metaphor, let’s start again.
Teddy would like to say he’s a pretty normal guy. I mean- he’s not that much of an epic nerd. He smiles at puppies, organizes his bookshelf in alphabetical order, and has to flick the light switch three times before leaving the room. That’s pretty normal stuff, right? Okay so maybe he’s actually really weird.
First up: he’s got strange interests. Anyone who actually enjoys hand-drawing maps, puts everything in a list, and always keeps a ruler in their pocket has to be kind of odd, ADD, or a little bit on the spectrum. He’s so committed to the project that he will spend nights in a tree as to not lose ground. But when he’s not fending off wild geese, fishing his shoe out of a lake, or eating poorly-dried beef jerky, he has relatively sane projects as methods of relaxation. Teddy stocks his bag full of not only the tools of his trade, but also paintbrushes. But not for painting the landscapes or the wildlife that would be found in the areas he is surveying; no, that would be work. It is to work on his pet project: a hand-illustrated handbook to every kind of poisonous berry, plant, mushroom, flower, bug, you name it- anything that can be found in the woods. Think about it: He spends a lot of time out in the woods with rations, but, what if he ever gets stuck in the woods without? *Bam* He’s got a little booklet on what to and what not to forage. Need to learn how to fend off a bear or tell the time and direction by the sun? That’s in there too. It never hurts to be prepared.
(And side note: there’s a lot of plants in the midwest that are poisonous when exposed to the sun. Since they’re photosensitive like that- it means you can eat only the roots at midnight. Y’all are welcome lol)
Second up: His time away from society as left him not well-versed with social graces. All the other map-makers are like him- they’d all rather be toughing it out in the woods than talking to each other. But they tell themselves it’s important to share notes for accuracy. Or maybe that’s just the primal human urge for companionship that they’re not telling each other…
Anyways- he struggles sometimes to understand metaphors, sarcasm, and back-handed compliments. Teddy believes that people should just be straight with each other. Otherwise, they eventually end up so entangled with their lies that the story fell apart three blocks ago. “Honesty is the best policy.” However, not many other people are that straight-forward. Due to this, he feels like he’s in the perpetual state of the moment when you drop a pen and fumble to grab it, all whilst knowing you’ll fail. No matter how much he talks himself through a scenario, something is bound to go wrong. Someone brings up a topic he didn’t anticipate, his fat mouth slips something stupid, and five second later everyone’s mad at him and he’s not entirety sure where it went wrong.
Lastly: Teddy is a caretaker at heart, although he would hate for people to find that out. Just because he doesn’t understand people doesn’t mean he doesn’t try. He always packs extra food with him “just in case.” He knows what tea all of his family members and companion cartographers prefer. He picks up on when someone is limping, tired, hungry, cold, or trying not to cry. Sometimes he flubbs up and misinterprets, but that’s just life. If you point it out and ask why he’s doing any of that, he’ll just insist it’s practical. Being well-fed, rested, and warm makes a person easier to be around a better worker. He’s not going out of his way to be kind, obviously, it’s just more efficient this way. Maybe he picked this up from his time at the bakery, but surely it’s unrelated.
Sexuality: (Optional)
Straight- but he’s probably a little too worried about messing up and flunking out of life to worry about relationship stuff. Well- probably.
Appearance:
Teddy has dirty blond hair that looks a little unkempt. You can tell he usually keeps it pretty short, but it has a habit of growing down to his ears before he remembers haircuts are a thing. As for his build… it’s pretty mid (for lack of a better word.) He’s not skinny per say, but not quite muscular either. Even though he’s always running around outside he’s a pretty hearty eater, so it all balances out in the end.
He has a round face and soft green eyes with long lashes that his sister is always teasing him about. She once made him apply mascara and it stuck so bad that he cried it off later that night. Just- don’t tell anyone. His skin is decently tanned from long hours spent outside, and he stands around 5’8’’. His hands are rough from constant work, lollygagging, and tree climbing; and they’re usually decorated with fresh ink stains because he keeps knocking over his ink well. At this point, it’s less an accident and more a personality trait.
He dresses practically in day-to-day life, the dude will usually chuck on whatever’s in his closet. Jeans and boots keep the dirt and stickers off his skin and a ratty t-shirt allows him free movement without pressure to keep it clean. However, since he’s invited to this event for reasons unknown (like why isn’t he here with the catering? What’s going on?), he has to pull out his church clothes. But not his usual church clothes, his easter service garments that have migrated to the far corner of the closet for the year. Teddy has scrubbed all the dirt off his face (well, almost. He is trying his best though.) and has even put polish over his shoes. Now it’s not the nicest clothing in the world- but his white button-up is entirely stain free! That’s what makes it so special! He pairs it with brown corduroy pants that he’s slowly starting to outgrow. And just because it’s a special event, he decided to wear a tie. That’s right, he broke into his dad’s tie collection and pulled out one that’s closer to maroon than it is to brown. He’s not color blind, though, he’s just a man.
Background:
His parents have been the generational owners of a small bakery that sits on the corner of the square. They wake up every day at the crack of dawn to churn out breads, pastries, and soups. It’s hard work, but it is rewarding. They have three children who have been raised perfecting the culinary arts. Amalia- the eldest who can concoct a mean chicken tikkamasala. Teddy is the middle child. Although he prefers other activities, he has perfected chocolate croissants. The youngest… Well, let’s just say Henry knows how to make sandwiches.
But that’s besides the point. Although their family definitely wasn’t the richest in town, their parents liked to say they were the happiest. All three of the children grew up around the other town members who would visit in the morning and quickly became used to the hustle and bustle of running a business, a skill that would help in their later years. Of course, now I’m just rambling; they had rather “normal” lives overall.
Reason For Visiting Mayfield:
Teddy is visiting from a far-off town where he has become the young apprentice to a master cartographer. He was given a short break from his work due to the decreasing demand for- simply put- really, really, fancy maps. Spending weeks in the wild, fending off bears, and keeping a hand-illustrated book of all the poisonous berries in the forest does have its allure. However, the world does not have a lot of unexplored land. The union is meeting to discuss how to move forward with their lives and what to do with their passions. Thus, Teddy is returning to bum off of his parents for a few weeks.

How Often I Am Available & Willing To RP:
I’m free pretty much every day except for (insert right below)
I Am Okay With Dying First: (Y/N)
Yes- absolutely if you need to. I have a short period of time in July where I will be unable to have internet access. I can still write but can’t upload anything except for very specific days. I’ll talk to you about it as it gets closer because the situation is likely to keep changing. But I’ve had my eye on this roleplay for a while and finally got a good character idea so I couldn’t help myself T.T
My Preferred Alignment: (Good, Neutral, Evil)
Off the dnd scale- he’s pretty much a neutral good. He’s my little anxiety boy so he’s probably terrified to do something “wrong” without good reason.
I Have Read & Understand The Requirements:
Yep!
