Annika Dunn
Nickname:
Nik/Nikki
Age:
20
Gender:
Female
Sexuality:
Bisexual
Riding Level:
Advanced
Riding Style:
Western
Horse:
TBD
Participating in Horsemanship Comp.:
Yes. She'd literally never say no to a competition.
Appearance:
Build: Annika's 5'11" with a generally long and lean build. She has some muscle toning in her core and arms, and her legs are visibly stronger, but her athleticism looks more like that of a runner than a weightlifter. Her posture is always ramrod-straight, she's never one to be caught slouching or slumping at all.
Face: Slightly tanned, with a lot of freckles, always soured by a severe case of RBF. Her green eyes seem to be perpetually narrowed in a scowl, and she's not one to dish out smiles. Her nose has a rather obvious bump in it, which is partially genetics and partially it having been broken one too many times.
Hair: Annika's hair is ginger, pin-straight, very fine and silky, and always neatly tied back in either a high ponytail or a braided ponytail. It's medium-length, falling a little ways past her shoulders if left loose.
Voice: Pointed and assertive, with a distinctive Australian accent.
Personality:
Competitive and determined, and tending towards a waspish way of speaking to people, Annika could definitely be considered abrasive. She's opinionated and quick to speak her mind, particularly when she disagrees with someone or something, and definitely isn't a people pleaser. Her dry sense of humour, tendency towards sarcasm, and constant RBF, along with her lack of concern for others' opinions of her, sometimes make her come off as rude, particularly given how single-mindedly she focuses on competition and victory. While she may be competitive, independent, determined and bluntly confident, however, she's definitely a good sport and enjoys when others challenge her. To her, its not necessarily the winning that matters - its winning a good competition, and earning the victory. To her close friends, she's fiercely loyal, protective, and trustworthy, though she never stops being as much of a firebrand as she is to strangers.
Strengths:
Persistent - no matter the difficulties, Annika is happy to focus on her own improvement, piece by piece, and bounces back from any failure almost instantly.
Confidence - self-doubt and anxiety have rarely troubled her, she's always sure in her decisions and abilities.
Realistic Standards - Annika's motivated only by her own improvement against both her own performance and that of others within competitions, meaning she's not held back by high standards or a fear of failure.
Weaknesses:
Relationships - Annika's abrasive personality and competitiveness often get in the way of her interpersonal connections.
Micromanager - She has a need to be in control of even the smallest details.
Overly competitive - Annika has difficulty letting go of a challenge and feels like she has to win in any situation, whether the competition is real or just perceived.
Focused On:
Reining, Barrel Racing
Backstory:
Annika learned to ride on her grandparents' farm in rural Australia, spending more and more time there as a young child. As her parents realised her interest wasn't waning, they invested in their daughter's hobby, which slowly turned into a career as she began competing in barrel racing events. As a teen, she had to juggle her school commitments with competitions, and after graduating at 17 she's focused on riding almost entirely. She's been in New Zealand for about a year, most of which has been spent at Little Brook.

Barn Name:
Sunrise
Nicknames:
Sunny
Age:
7
Gender:
Gelding
Breed:
Connemara Pony

Stall #:
4
Appearance:
Build: 13.8HH, with a sturdy conformation. He tends to be on the heavier side despite all the work he does, and has the typical stocky build of a pony.
Coat: As a palomino, he has a thick golden coat with white socks on all four legs and a white blaze from high on his head to the top of his muzzle.
Mane: Thick, medium-long length and very pale, almost completely white. While it's braided for competition, and Sunrise certainly appreciates the pampering, he does like having it loose and long.
Personality:
Laid-back and calm, Sunrise is considered to be an absolute sweetheart. While he may be rather food-motivated and lazy, he's also proven himself to be not only friendly and patient, but exceptionally intelligent - when he choses to use it. His gentle temperament and easy-going attitude mean that while he was an excellent school pony at one point, he's also easy to train and work with. He's not particularly stubborn, very much willing to go with the flow, though it can take some effort to pry him away from food or friends. He's sturdy and dependable, not only when he's being worked but outside the arena, having proven himself to be rather empathetic and understanding.
Strengths:
Calm Demeanour - Sunrise is incredibly laid-back and rarely spooks, happily following instructions and enduring high-stress situations without so much as a twitch.
Dressage/Eventing - his smooth gait makes him a natural at dressage work, and he's perfectly happy to prance around in circles and show off.
Stamina - bred for endurance in harsh terrain, Sunrise can work for far longer than the average horse without feeling tired.
Sociability - friendly and gentle-tempered, Sunrise is a sweetheart who does well in social situations
Weaknesses:
Unmotivated - he has no desire for self-improvement or practice and has to be pushed into it. He'll never take initiative or be concerned about his performance on his own.
Easily distracted - if there's food or any of his friends anywhere near him, his attention will stray.
Lazy - though he's happy to continue working once he's started, it can take quite a bit of persuasion to get him going, particularly if it means prying him away from his food or sleep.
Backstory:
Born and raised in New Zealand, Sunrise was originally used as a school pony for teaching young children, having demonstrated a gentle temperament from the time he was a foal. However, it didn't take long after Sunrise showed potential for dressage that he was moved to Little Brook. Since then he's been trained by professionals and gained a lot of experience, but he still has the temperament and patience of a school pony.
