Topic
Military Romance

Plot
Muse A comes from the present days, in 2026, all sexualities are pratically welcomed with open arms. There are of course, still discriminations and certain opinions, but it is definitely not at the level it used to be. He is homosexual, however he rarely displays it and focuses on his career in the Air Force. Romance and love is not really his focus and nobody ever has captured his attention long enough for it to drag him away from his career.

Muse B comes from the past, from around the 1950s. He is very driven to be the very best in the Air Force and when he is teleported to the present, his entire world gets flipped upside down. He is not used to anything that is happening in the present. The way that the Air Force conducts itself, nor the openness around sexuality.

However, whenever Muse B comes under Muse A's wing, they clash, a lot. They are from different eras, where rules are much different. The two want to conduct their career in different ways. They argue constantly about the proper ways to be a soldier, and Muse B has a major secret. At least a secret that is big for the 1900s, and he hides his sexuality a lot more.

However, when things start to shift between them and they began to become closer and closer. Muse A must gently coax Muse B into the new era and convince him that things are not the same anymore, that it is safe to be openly gay. Will they succed?

Name: James Anthony Cowell
Nicknames: N/A
Age: 22
Birthday: July 28, 1929
Sexuality: Extremely Closeted Homosexual
Appearance: If you visualize what the perfect apple-pie American man might look like, you're probably picturing James. He stands 5'10" tall, with a long, lean build not unlike a boxer. He's very well-balanced in terms of musculature, a true swiss army knife of a man, who excels at most sports he plays. You can tell by looking at him that he was probably a scrawny teenager, but he's filled out very well since becoming an airman.
If he can be bothered to style his dark blond hair, which is admittedly rarely, he favors a classic slickback. More often than not, it's deeply messy from the nature of his job, in part because he stretches cuts a bit longer than regulation would dictate. James keeps a clean shaven face, but it takes a lot of doing, as he's a rather hairy man in general. His eyes are a deep, placid blue more reminiscent of the ocean than the sky. They're smiling eyes, a bit of levity in his otherwise rather serious face. James often looks vaugely amused by the world around him, although he rarely truly smiles. When he does, it lights up his whole face, and tends to induce those around him to follow suit. As if to match the countenance, James has a soft, rich voice with a slight southern accent. His nose, somewhat large and once very straight, has a prominent ridge where it was once broken.
His skin tone is naturally rather pale and cool toned, though he is somewhat tanned from working in the sun. He sports a truly magnificent farmer's tan that makes him an easy object of ridicule in the barracks, made worse by his propensity towards freckling, particularly across his arms and, strangely enough, ears. Having been a Pararescue for a couple years, he's absolutely covered in scars, particularly across his hands and wrists. The worst of them is a gouge stretching from the bottom of his left shoulderblade to the top of his right, a graze injury he incurred in the field that healed somewhat poorly.
James tends towards rather plain but well-tailored clothing when he has to be in his civvies, although he's aware that he looks good in a waistcoat and uses it to his advantage. He wears no jewelery, although he's rarely found without a pair of browline sunglasses.
Personality: Quiet, but with a razor-sharp wit, James is the sort of person who you're around for a very long time before you realize you enjoy his company. He values competence and efficiency above all else, and is very hard on himself (and even harder on others) in the pursuit of both. Outwardly, he comes off as very calm and confident, although not showy, but the more you get to know him, the more obvious it becomes that it's almost entirely a facade. James is, at his core, a very sensitive and easily wounded man who would win the Olympic gold medal in bottling up his emotions.
Very slow to anger but quick to be annoyed, James is no stranger to a brawl and tends to say things he later regrets. He's very perceptive and good at reading a room, although he often chooses to do nothing with that information. He tends to put on a front of machismo very familiar to anyone who's been within a 50 mile radius of an Air Force base, although once you get to know him, he's actually very sweet and sentimental.
If you were to ask him, James would likely say he's not particularly intelligent, although that's not necessarily a fair assessment. He signed on for the Air Force at 18, eager to follow in his father's footsteps (he had been a highly decorated airman in both world wars), and was almost immediately pulled towards pararescue, not only for his calm head under pressure but his intrinsic understanding of the human body and how to keep it alive, despite all the odds. He has virtually zero fear and tanks through pain like a boar, both of which make him very good at his job, but he's never been particularly booksmart and barely graduated high school.
Relations:
Rachel Anne Cowell (neé Mackenzie)— Mother
b. 2/2/1902
Rachel met James' father through mutual friends shortly before he deployed for his first tour in Germany in the first World War. They corresponded as best they could while he was overseas, and when he came home, they naturally married. Although she was an attentive and loving mother, she was not especially close with her youngest son, although they maintain correspondence when possible and she makes sure he knows she's proud of him.
John William Cowell Sr.— Father
12/9/1899-6/20/1944
James was a strong, stalwart man, every bit the classic American father. He had an easy smile and a good way with children, and loved his family and wife to almost embarassing levels. He and James were very close, and James took his death extremely hard, nearly as badly as his mother, a bitter pill he still struggles to swallow even now.
John William Cowell Jr.—Brother
b. 11/23/1921
James was never very close with his eldest brother, whom everyone called Will. They haven't spoken since James became an airman, and last he heard, Will was somewhere in New York doing something complicated involving investment.
Ruth Anne Smith (neé Cowell)— Sister
b. 3/14/1923
Only marginally closer to Ruth (often called Ruthanne) than he was to Will, James remembers his eldest sister as a strongheaded woman with a tongue made of iron. She ran away to California with a Black man when she was freshly 18, causing great scandal in their small Tennessee hometown, and was never heard from again (although she's happily working as a seamstress with two kids of her own now).
Virginia Jean Vineyard (neé Cowell)— Sister
b. 8/6/1926
Virginia is genuinely one of James' best friends. They were very close as youngsters and even closer as young adults. She, like Ruth, is a very outspoken young woman and a schoolteacher, with a husband named Richard who quite literally worships the ground she walks on. In the wake of his strange time-travelling adventure, James will regret not seeing Virginia again the most.

Backstory of Callsign
On one of his early deployments, his squadron was under heavy attack from an enemy ambush. Theodore's squadron outnumbered the enemy, however they were being outsmarted by the enemy's cycling patterns to confuse the pilots. Theodore was able to break down the pattern, predicted the next move, and repositioned himself just in time to take out an enemy before one of his squadmates fell. He quickly told his squadmates as he moved, and they were able to take out the enemy. After landing, a senior pilot commented that he "didn't fight the enemy, he decoded them". Then his squadron leader added, "like a damn cipher". The nickname stuck, and spread quick, especially as Theodore continued this tactical approach throughout his career.

United Arab Emirates: Al Dhafra Air Base. Seven month deployment. Stealth operations and rapid response. He had a bigger role in this deployment. He flew highly important, time-sensitive missions. This is where he earned his call sign. He also earned his first Air Medal in this deployment.
Japan: Kadena Air Base. Five month deployment. Air defense, and intercept operations. He worked with his squad to intercept unidentified aircrafts entering their airspaces. Further built his reputation, especially for his calmness, precision, and restraint.
Germany: Ramstein Air Base. Four month deployment. NATO operations and training. He participated and aided in multinational exercises, and distinguished himself among pilots, and cemented his calll sign as Cipher across international borders.
REDACTED: Unknown location. Unknown duration. Special Operations Support, Covert mission. Details restricted under Top Secret clearance. Rumored to be high-level coordinated strikes. The mission was a success however, he was injured. Not injured enough to not live, or be discharged, however enough to be on medical leave for recovery and to recieve a Purple Heart. He returned to duty before he was supposed to, however he has since been fully restored to active duty.
Years of Service
5, nearly 6, Active Years of Service
Signature Move
The others have nicknamed it "Deadlock". Theodore doesn't rush into combat, he observes. He breaks down enemy patterns and predicts their next move before they make it. He strikes when they least expect it, and have the smallest window to react.

Character Profile

Appearance
Theodore stands tall at a powerful 6'0, although most people assume he's taller, and he weights around 218lbs. His build is proportional to his height and weight, and most of his height comes from his legs. He has long legs, however, he also has a medium-length waist as well. It is also clear that he is athletic, as he played sports when he was younger, specifically hockey. Furthermore, he signed up for the military as soon as he could, so he has been able to maintain his althetic physique. He has a solid yet not bulky frame, as he is built for explosiveness and stamina, with powerful shoulders and chest. Yet, his strongest muscles are around his forearms, built from years in hockey for his wrists and core for grip strength, powerful wrist-flick based moves, and core stability. His lower body is not as powerful, but he always tries to work on them as well to maintain proportionality and good balance for agility. He is ambidextrous, however more often writes with his right hand.

Theodore has slightly curly jet black hair that he keeps styled in a lower taper fade, with short, smooth sides that fade near the ears and neck, and also has thick curls left a little longer at the top. When he is in public or in uniform, he keeps it very neat and put together. However, when he is in the privacy of his own home, it is often messy from running his hand through it a lot. His eyes are a striking ice blue that are reminiscent of the winter sky, and when he is angry or intimidating, they are cold; almost cutting blue like frozen steel. However, on the very rare occasion, when he is happy or showing his softer size, those ice blue eyes seem to soften to a more gentle blue that brightens. That paired with his charming smile has swooned many women and men many times. Theodore's skin is a fair olive-tone, slighly earthy sun-warmed from many summers spent on the beach. He also seems to be evenly tanned across his entire body, possibly from nude sunbathing. He prefers to remain almost clean-shaven, most often sporting a shadow of a stubble, just enough to add definition to his face.

One of the most distinguishing features of Theodore are the freckles on his face, which are hard to see unless the sun hits them just right. The freckles are lightly smattered across his cheekbones and he also sports a slight dimple in his right cheek when he is genuinely smiling. Theodore has a fair share of scars across his body, a lot of them from playing hockey, and a lot of them from his career in the military. There is one on his jaw from a fight on the ice, a thin scar that stretches from under his jaw towards his chin. There is also a decent sized scar on his shoulder from a hockey incident that nearly cost him his arm. It is faint, pale, and slightly puckered scar over his right shoulder from a collision gone wrong. There are also a lot of other smaller scars from years playing outside as a child. Some from being thrown from a horse, riding a bike. All from doing the stupid, but fun things as a child while playing outside. There is one more scar, a thin, slightly jagged, linear scar on his left forearm. The injury had nearly cost him the nerves that controlled his left arm and hand.

He is always found wearing a silver necklace with a small silver cross on it, which is a family heirloom that he is incredibly fond of. Whenever he was on base and in uniform, he wore the typical flight suit worn for flying missions to provide safety and comfort. On his left shoulder shines his rank inignia, two silver bars that indicate his rank as captain. While on his left side chest is the symbol of a star and wreath on top of wings (pilot), with his squadron's symbol patch on his right shoulder. On the right side of his chest, the uniform sports his last name (Turner) and wings. His callsign is embrodied on his flight suit just under the name tag. He also sports the combat boots that are standard with flight suits.

Whenever he has to be in a formal uniform (not in flight suit, but attending things like military events), he is in service dress uniform (blues) that also feature his silver bars, flight wings, and his awards and decorations. He typically pairs it with black formal shoes often found with the dress uniform. The dress uniform includes a service dress coat, white shirt, blue trousers, a black tie with his badges and ribbons on his collarbone.

Whenever he is in the privacy of his own home, he likes a casual wear. Usually just a t-shirt with some sweats or joggers. He has an indoor gym, so he can also be found in workout clothes at home. Whenever he has to go to a formal event, but isn't required to wear his dress uniform, he opts for nice denim jeans paired with a nice shirt like a tailored button up shirt. His go-to cologne is one that gives off an aromatic, woody smell. He usually only sprays on enough that people can smell it when he gets close. But no so powerful, that it overwhelms people.

Tonal/Voice
Theodore's voice is slightly deep with a tint of smoothness and richness. He usually remains quite calm and authoritative. However, he lightens up when he is teasing or being playful. Although he has adapted his dialect to the more common phrases of America, his Kentish accent remains quite heavy. Not enough that people cannot understand him though. He is very proud of his Kentish heritage however.
Personality
As a military Captain, Theodore has two distinct personalities. One that he uses solely for specifically work. He is always very calm and collected, and is very hard to rattle. Despite how close he is with his squadron, details of his private life remain under wraps. He remains incredibly professional, and the way he talks are very thoughtful and careful. He is not a big fan of revealing too much, and so he always thinks carefully before he talks. Whenever he is at work, he is more focused on being a Captain. However, whenever he hangs out with his squadron outside of work, he is willing to let loose a little more.

Theodore does have a softer side, however, one that the military very rarely gets to see. This side is usually only for close friends and family, and this side of him makes him seem much more approachable and likable. He is loyal to a fault to those that he loves and is incredibly protective over them. Hence the reason he keeps his private life under wraps and will not reveal anything about his family. He is actually quite sweet, and a huge animal lover. This side of Theodore really explains why his family and close friends have nicknamed him Teddy, as he could be considered a "teddy bear."

Theodore is much more emotionally vulnerable and is more likely to express himself when this softer side is visible. His facial expressions and eyes are often much kinder and softer when this soft side of him shows. His smile and laughter becomes more common and more genuine, in fact, those who know him find it hard to believe that he can become so closed off, careful, and distanced. He is very family-oriented and is considered quite nurturing and compassionate. Although he does still struggle to express himself fully, he is more likely to only to those he considers close friends and family. His love language is touch, which is ironic since he usually hates physical contact with people who are not his family. The last romantic relationship he was in, he was very touchy, not in a sexual way. He just liked holding hands, resting a hand on the knee, cuddling, things like that.

Overall, Theodore is very resilient and persistent and does not give up easily. He has faced many set backs and problems through out his life. He joined the military as soon as he could, and it wasn't an easy road, but he made it. He is also uncanning intelligent and strategic, a very beneficial and important aspect of his career. Theodore has incredible leadership skills, especially after being promoted to Captain, and being given a brand new squadron.
Weaknesses and Flaws

Theodore also has his fair share of weaknesses and flaws. He is a bad overthinker and can drown in it, as he worries that he is not working up to the right images. Theodore worries that he is not ensuring that his squadron is at its full potential, and he is failing it. He also has a bad habit of bottling things up, and over certain things, finds it that it is very hard for him to open up emotionally. For example, Theodore has never told anybody how much his father's death actually affected him. He tells people that he is glad his father is no longer hurting, and that it does still hurt. However, in reality, his father's death almost crippled his motivation to go any further in his career.

Theodore also suffers from severe anxiety, that he has learned how to manage and hide. One of his biggest problems is how much his forearm injury bothers him still. However, he feels this overwhelming pressure to be perfect (perfectionist). The pressure he feels (mostly due to himself) overwhelms him. He believes that the military will rip him a new one and he will be dishonorably discharged if he messes up even once. He sets unnaturally high standards for himself, and beats himself up when he is unable to achieve them. Whenever he suffers from anxiety and is out of the eyes of the public, he spirals. However, when in public, it is much harder to tell if he is having an anxiety attack. But key tells are his posture, he gets a little tenser. And his eyes almost seem to get colder, he keeps a hand in his pocket so that he can fidget with his hand and people can't notice. He also has a bad habit of isolating himself, especially during emotional turmoil. He is scared of losing people, which is why his close friends and family group is so small. He doesn't want to form emotional connections and risk losing somebody else.
Strengths
Theodore's strengths involve mental resiliece. Even though he can spiral and struggles with perfectionist and anxiety, he never lets it slow him down for long. He just bottles it up, shoves it away, and keeps on going. Which is not the healthiest method, however it has worked. In public, he can handle the pressure and criticism the military throws at him, and it is incredibly hard to unnerve him. He is a strategic thinker with exceptional awareness that keeps him and his squadron at impressive levels. He is also very adpative and works hard to ensure that the Ghost Squadron remains on top.
Backstory
Theodore was born in Fordwich, Kent, Great Britain and he lived there with his parents until the age of eleven. He was home schooled for the first two years of school, but whenever he was seven, his father took a drastic turn and his cancer hit him hard. So, his mother sent him to St. Stephen's Junior School, so she could focus more on caring for his father and ensure Theodore still got the best education. He attended the Junior School in Canterbury, Kent, Great Britain for three years and just before he turned 10, his father unexpectedly passed from cancer (his father had seemed to be making a come back from cancer). Theodore and his mother lasted almost a year in Fordwich after his father's death, before his mother decided it was time to pack up and leave.

She chose to relocate them in Colorado Springs, Colorado, America, and Theodore was enrolled in Eagleview Middle School. This is where his interests shifted from hockey to the military, specifically the Air Force (mostly due to the heavy influence of Air Force bases and personnel). Thus, he ended up going to the Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs. He ended up skipping his sophmore year due to having enough credits from advanced coursework, thus allowing him to graduate at 17 instead of 18. Finally, he made the decision to enlist in the military and enroll in college. So, he went to the United States Air Force Academy also located in Colorado Springs. He was a cadet as well as a student, and attended for four years graduating with a major in Military and Strategic Studies and a minor in Airpower Studies.

From there, he was sent to one of the bases in Colorado Springs, Peterson Space Force Base. His first two deployments were beneficial for his career, it is where he earned his call sign and exhibited his skills. His third deployment furthered his skills and his fourth one allowed him to learn more skills from international pilots. He also cemented his skills among international borders by his performance in the NATO trainings. After his return from Germany, he was promoted to Captain and got his Ghost Squadron barely six months later. He has been a Captain ever since, and with his team, had built the Ghost Squadron's reputation. His last known deployment is redacted, and very little is known about it. The mission was a success, but he was injured. He lived, and he was not injured enough to be out of service, however he was forced on medical leave for recovery and was awarded a Purple Heart. He returned to duty early, but was fully restored to active duty.

Relationships
William Turner
Father. Deceased. William and Theodore were incredibly close whenever William was alive. In fact, Theodore's middle name comes from his father. The sudden, unexpected passing of his father hit Theodore hard and it took him longer to recover from it than he thought it would.
Isla Turner
Mother. Alive. Isla and Theodore are incredibly close, especially after the passing of Theodore's father. The two leaned on each other and relied on each other to get through the unexpected passing of his father.
Edward Turner
