Plot
"Two children of the purest and oldest families will unite. You shall call them sun and moon. And they shall be your saving grace."

The ancient legend that was spoken at the beginning of time. But as with all legends, there is always trouble. These two children, related only by the legend that binds them together, could be killed with ease.

When they were born, the ancient gods took them from their parents. Ra both blessed and cursed them. He allowed them eternal life, but in return, their Ba, Ka, Ib, Ren, and Shuyet were stored in one place, a place that if broken into, the pieces could be destroyed. So, knowing that one day the two children would save the world, they were put into deep, almost impossible to find tombs. There they aged until they hit eighteen, then they stopped aging.

There in the tombs they laid, in a deep slumber, protected and guarded by many different magical wards and creatures created by the gods. While their souls were protected and guarded by deadly creatures and almost forbidden magic. For if the souls were destroyed, then the children would die. And if the children died, the world would fall.

Now, nearly five thousand years later, the modern world is crumbling. After eons of eternal battle, Apophis has won the great fight. He has consumed all of the gods and now the world is overrun by his chaos creatures. Humans, magicians, and other creatures are fighting for their lives. Magicians are hiding underground, protecting humans, though constantly on the move to avoid being detected.

When the gods were consumed, the magical wards around the tombs began to break, including the slumber. The two children were awake, with no recollection of how they got there, or where they were. The only thing they could remember was their names and their mission. Save the world. They didn't understand their mission until they emerged from the tombs.

So, with the power of eternal life, the abilities bestowed upon them by the gods, the creatures who swore to protect them, and the weapons given to them by the gods. The two must find a way to harness and control their abilities as well as find out how to defeat Apophis, before it is too late.

Can they do it?

Some Egyptian Lore
(Just a little touch up for me)

Five Parts of the Soul
Ba
The personality. Represents an individual's personality
Ka
The life force. Person's life force
Ib
The spirit. It is a person's heart and the record of the good and bad deeds
Ren
The secret name. It is the true name that states the nature of the entity's soul. A secret name is typically only shared in times of great need or as a gesture of deep trust; by revealing one's secret name to another, the holder gains power over the owner
Shuyet
The shadow. A mark someone leaves on the world. If someone has no shadow, they have no effect on the world, therefore they can not exist. It is also like a backup copy of the soul

Major Gods/Goddess
Anubis- The god of funerals and death
Apophis- The snake god of chaos
Bast- The cat goddess
Geb- The earth god

Appearance
Zahra stands at a decent 5'8 and is considered very slender. Despite having slept in a tomb her entire life, she is surprisingly fairly muscular and athletic-built. She has tan copper skin since she has been in the dark her whole life. Zahra also has brown hair with dark brown eyes that sometimes glow silver. They often glow silver when she is using magic or using her abilities

Zahra typically wears linen clothes, the clothes of a magician. Though not always the warmest, it does Zahra well. However, to blend in, there are times she will wear just normal jeans and a t-shirt, however she prefers the linen clothes because that is what is most comfortable to her. Her hair stretches down to her waist, although she often keeps it up in a ponytail or braid, anything that keeps it out of her face.

Her skin is fairly smooth and untouched from the years sleeping in the tomb. However she does have a tattoo on her. It is on the inner left wrist and it is a tattoo of the moon.

Personality
Zahra is a quiet person, she likes to stay in the background and can be quite reserved. Despite this, she is very loyal and kind-hearted. She loves animals very much, and is the kind of person that if you earn her trust, then she will do anything for you. She likes to think things through and is very level-headed. It is very hard to upset Zahra and if you manage to do so, well then, you have screwed up immensely. She prefers night to day and she loves the rain. Although she hasn't experienced much of the outside world, she seems to know a lot more then expected.

There is much for her to learn, however it seems the gods had implemented some of their knowledge to her before they were consumed. Despite that, it is clear that Zahra is from a different century. She remembers what the gods had implemented in her mind five thousand years ago, how the world was when she was born, although she never got to experience it.

Khnurn Amenatsu Bakari
Rising Sun -- Twin of Ra -- Noble Oath
Nicknames: He goes by Nur, since it's easier for people to pronounce.
Age: ~5000
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Thebes, Ancient Egypt
Religion: He follows the Egyptian Netjer
Species: Immortalized Human

Appearance

Khnurn, while being thousands of years old, has the appearance and physical capabilities of an eighteen-year-old. He stands at a solid 6'2, tall for his time period, but a much more common height in this era. His body is lean and muscular, triangular in shape, and built for endurance rather than speed. His movements are fluid and refined, and his reflexes are much faster than one would expect from a young man of his stature.

His complexion is a bronze tanned one, though the tightened skin around any scars he has, or will earn, show up much paler. Khnurn's eyes are a burning brown with amber flecks and his short hair is a deep black that catches a grayish-brown sheen in the sunlight. When using his abilities, Khurn's eyes turn a bright gold color. On the last cervical vertebrae, where his shoulders meet his neck, is the eye of Ra.

He walks upright and carries himself in a dignified manner. His long strides and confident movements add to a more dominant feel to him; he certainly makes no effort to dissuade such a notion, as it seems that, this way, people leave him alone.

Khnurn has a fairly deep voice, not quite a bass but lower than a tenor. It's smooth and soft enough to be considered a loud murmur. It's a voice that is easy to listen to, lulling and deceptively soft. Hypnotic in the same way as the vibrant, pulsating colors on a deadly animal. He smells of ore and hot metal, but there is a hint of coldness to it as well. Somehow, he always seems to draw the shadows to him, adding a sense of mystery to this young man.

Personality

He is a slow burner -- the coldest kind of the fiery personalities. He does not simply erupt, nor does he build up to an eruption. Khnurn's boiling point skips over the theatrics and goes straight to the part where someone gets burned -- but there was never any warning. Khnurn will be calm and collected throughout the whole ordeal, seemingly unbothered by any fear or havoc he may have wrought.

He is a solitary creature, avoiding others at all costs. While he will do as is needed in the whole idea of "save the world," he will not add any unnecessary chatter. Khnurn is the type to pour his soul into one heroic moment, make sure everyone is safe, and leave without another word.

He uses his more intimidating stature and surly appearance to ward off any idle chatters -- you know the kind. The ones who pop up in the middle of a particularly difficult project to talk for hours in a one-sided conversation over the latest town scandal or the weather or some other irritating subject that Khnurn has no interest in. This young man rarely expresses interest in anything or anyone outside of animals and his bestowed duty, really. Then again, those two latter things are all he really knows. They are his life. He has no time for back-and-forth banter and weather predictions, nor does he have an ear for the latest gossip on what Mr. So-And-So's daughter is up to. He. Does. Not. Care.

Khnurn is quite happy to be on his lonesome. Nobody gets hurt that way, and he is relatively free to do as he pleases. There is no chatter, no bustling crowds, no merchants screaming about their cheap trinkets. It's usually just him and Zahra. In this state, he loses some of his scary exterior and becomes quite eager. He can be almost friendly, even, if caught at the right moment. He is not a bad guy, no matter how hard he tries to portray himself as such. Khnurn is just... very... particular, if you will, with his surroundings. He doesn't want drama or attention, and the way to avoid both of those is to avoid people entirely. Thus, that is exactly what he does.

Relationships

Baat || Father || Deceased
Asenath || Mother || Deceased
Astarte || Father's Second Wife || Deceased
Kesnut || Sister || Deceased
Nephiri || Sister || Deceased
Akila || Sister || Deceased
Bahiti || Half Sister || Deceased
Pili || Half Sister || Deceased
Raziya || Half Sister || Deceased
Set || Half Brother || Deceased

Weapons

He prefers his bow and arrows, but he also has two gold-handled Khopesh. It'll be fun when he discovers guns.

Strengths

+ Physical strength -- he was just born with it. This is somewhat amplified during the day, when his more supernatural abilities are at their most effective.

+ Archery and swordsmanship -- making weapons means he gets to wield them as well; while he is nothing fancy, he is deadly accurate with a bow and not too shabby in close combat.

+ Making people uneasy -- this is more an evasion tactic for him, as he wants to avoid others as much as possible. So, he acts as cold and scary as possible to deter this unwanted attention -- and it works.

Weaknesses

- His abilities are out of his control. Unleashed when his emotions are high or he is anything but relaxed, Khnurn has no idea how to handle them and is often subject to his gift rather than the other way around. It makes it difficult to stay hidden.

- Social interaction is something he wants nothing to do with. He keeps his social life as limited as possible and cannot stand large crowds or babbling chatter; it's too overwhelming with the looming threat of the end of the world. He takes "antisocial" up a notch.

- Khnurn is not the most patient of individuals. While he may not always become violent when he reaches the end of his rope, it will be painfully obvious that he is fed up with someone, and it takes a long time to repair that rope.

Languages

Egyptian || Arabic || English || Some German

Accent

Egyptian, though even some native Egyptians can't quite understand him. It's got the tones and inflections of a much older dialect.

Wake up

Those words spoken into her mind like someone was shouting. What was that? Who was that? Eyelids flicker open to reveal brown eyes. Where the hell was she? Zahra thrusts her hands upward. Bam, bam, bam. Bingo. The cover of whatever she was in slides off. A burst of fresh air hits her and she sits up. Blinking rapidly her eyes slowly adjust to the dim light. The first thing she saw was the exit of the room. Next she saw the room. A simple room, in a box shape, made from dried brick. Next she saw the creatures. They were large, probably the size of a horse. She could name one or two of them.

How?

She had a lot of knowledge, a lot of memory, most of it was about a world called Ancient Egypt.... The rest was about a world they called Modern Egypt... The modern world. The memories and knowledge of the modern world was less, and more confusing. She couldn't explain it, but she just knew she was not from this world. She was from the world, the time, known as Ancient Egypt. Well, at least she believed she was. She couldn't remember anything else though. Only memories and knowledge planted in her mind by... someone else. She couldn't remember how she ended up in the tomb, or how long she was there. She did remember her name. Amunet Zahra Nebetta. She also had another name stuck in her head.

Khnurn Amenatsu Bakari

Was that who was in the tomb beside hers? Zahra looks sideways at the next tomb, one built exactly like hers. It looked sealed well, but if it was built like hers, then the lid should come off easy enough. Zahra takes a deep breath as she looks down, she was dressed in simple black linen clothes. And laying in the tomb with her... Were two twin silver... swords? No. Khopesh. And then a silver composite bow with a quiver full of silver arrows.

Ragged breaths were his first sensation. Brown eyes opened to meet utter darkness, so thick that it was almost tangible. His hands were pressed against the sides of something rough and cold, and he slowly traced one upwards until he felt the tiniest, weakest breeze flowing in from the top angle. Was he in a box? The muffled sounds of movement outside his container caused the young man to hesitate. Dare he open the lid?

An oddly calm sensation responded, almost reassuring him that whoever -- whatever -- was outside on the other end was not any threat to him. Taking in a breath of the dank air, he placed his hands on the ceiling above his chest and pushed. Stone grated angrily and the dimmest of lights began to filter through. Even that was too much for him, and his pupils contracted even as he squinted. A final heave sent the lid crashing down on the other side and he sat up with a stiff groan.

Khnurn -- yes, that was his name; he remembered that, now -- studied his immediate surroundings with a grimace, pausing at the vague shape of a young woman not far from him. Amunet. No, she didn't like that name. Or did she? Was that even her? Khnurn's head was throbbing, reaching pitifully for a memory he could not quite grasp, clawing at threads of information that dangled just out of reach.

With a scowl, he pulled himself out of the great stone box and looked back down inside. A bow... and Khopesh. He turned to the girl noticed her weaponry as well -- almost identical, save the coloration. Hers was silver, whereas his was gold. With a thoughtfull humm, Khnurn brought a hand to his tousled, dark hair and asked in a voice barely a whisper, "Where are we?"

He felt out of place. It seemed as though the world had gone on without him, but he fit in neither the old world nor the new one. It was a strange feeling, one that he had not expected. Then again, he wasn't sure what he'd been expecting in the first place. The only things he knew for certain were that he was tied to the girl next to him and that, somehow, they had to save the world.

Zahra's head turns as she hears thumps from the tomb beside her. But she felt no fear.. Something told her that whoever, whatever, was inside was a friend. Not a threat. Seconds later the lid crashes to the ground and a person sits up. It took Zahra a minute to realize who it was. It was Khnurn. He looked just as confused as she had when she first emerged. She blinks as she starts to get up, stretching as she moves. It hurt her to move, almost as if she had been laying still for a long time. Khnurn too had weapons, much like hers, just golden...

"I don't know."

Zahra replies, her voice a low whisper as well. She gestures towards the creatures guarding the tomb. They were watching the two humans, they didn't look like a threat. "Do you think they want to harm us?" She didn't want to raise her voice any higher then a whisper. It felt wrong to talk any louder. Zahra slowly stands up, hands wrapped around the two swords, eyeing the creatures. But for now, it seemed like none were going to do anything. But what if they tried to leave? Were they there to keep them inside? Why were they even inside the tomb?

"Can you remember anything? Anything from before?" Zahra makes a vague gesture around the tomb. What had happened? Why were they in the tomb? Zahra didn't even know how she knew Khnurn. Where did the weapons come from? Where did the creatures come from? "Did the gods send us here?" Zahra leans down to take the bow and quiver, putting it over her shoulder. She picks up her swords again, glancing back at the creatures.

Her gaze returns to Khnurn. It felt good to stand, and it made her wonder, how long were they in the tomb? Because she had memories from both a world of old times and a world of new times. Which time were they from? She knew she could speak Ancient Egyptian, which was the tongue from old times... But she could also speak Arabic and English which was the tongue from the new times... So which were they from?

"Hurt us? No... No, I don't think so. If they did, I think we would have been dead by now," he said slowly, eyeing the creatures as he did so. Their frames were so still, almost as though they were statues, like those buried with the ancient kings. But these, these dark shapes were alive. While he could not quite tell what they were, he could feel that they were quite aware and even sentient. These guardians were on their side, he was almost certain.

He turned his attention back to Zahra as she asked her questions. Memories still evaded him, though he had the infuriating feeling that he was right on the verge of a breakthrough that would clear his mind and solve a puzzle he wasn't even sure existed. Did the gods send us here? Ah, yes. The gods... Khnurn had shards of memories of the deities. Bast and Sekhment arguing, Horus speaking with Ra, Isis discussing the iminent rise of Apophis. Apophis. That was their mission, no? To stop the snake god? Chaos would be unleashed, causing the end of times. Some called it Armageddon, others Ragnarok. In every culture, the final result was the same: it was the end of the world.

"I remember the gods, I think. At least, their shadows haunt my mind. I see them... yet, I don't. They are everywhere and nowhere, and I cannot understand why," he sighed, voice clearly displaying his frustrations. Khnurn brought his hand back up to his hair, only to drop it again as he caught on to his actions. This was not a time to display stress. He could not be stressed; he was barely three minutes old. Well -- no, he was much older than that, but this latest chapter had only just begun. "I remember things, but I can never recall having left the tomb. Or entering it, for that matter. It's like... like I experienced thousands of lives without living a single one of them."

Well that didn't make any sense. It was the only way he could describe it, though, and Khnurn had the feeling that Zahra knew what he was talking about. After all, they were in the exact situation here. As an afterthought, the young man added, "I know that I... that we... are supposed to be saving the world. I just cannot say how or where or why or when."

Zahra nods as she turns to face the creatures, she found sheaths on the quiver that held the Khopesh's and so she sheaths them. She couldn't help but wonder if the creatures were there to protect them. Would they help Zahra and Khnurn? Or were they simply there to guard the tomb? As she was wondering, one creature got up and walked over to Zahra. The body of a lion with the head and claws of an eagle. "Griffin." Zahra whispers. The griffin dips his head toward Zahra, then to Khnurn. Perhaps the creatures were meant to aid the two.

Zahra agrees,"Shadows... Everything..." She shakes her head,"I remember things that are not mine to remember. They are not my memories... Not my knowledge. But I cannot remember any memories or knowledge that is mine. I remember things from what they called Ancient Egypt and what they call the modern world. I can speak the old tongue and the new tongue. I know things from both worlds." She blinks,"So which one are we from?" She couldn't help but curse the gods... She did remember them. She remembered mainly how Horus was always fighting with Set... Were the two still fighting?

Zahra, too, was frustrated. "They took our memories." She frowns,"If we had any." Did they have any? She knew she was not of the world, not of the modern world, but perhaps not of the ancient world either. Neither of them were. But.. Surely the gods would at least have left the knowledge of how they ended up in the tomb. It's like I experienced thousands of lives without living a single one of them. What a perfect way to describe it. The knowledge stuck in her head, no doubt Khnurn's too, it was knowledge of many years. The gods knowledge.

Save the world

"Yes... Yes. Those words. Save the world. I remember those words. But..." She glances towards the door,"What do we save them from?" Zahra shakes her head,"Perhaps we should ask the gods. If they gave us their knowledge... If they put us down here.. Perhaps they can explain everything." Zahra takes a step towards the entrance and the rest of the creatures stir. They had been still as statues before, the only movement their eyes as they had tracked the humans. But now, they rose. The movement made Zahra freeze. But the creatures only cleared a path to the door.

Khnurn shook his head, just as lost as she was. As she spoke, it dawned on him that he, too, shared these mixed intelligences. Like her description, his seemed to swim around each other, combining and intertwining until he had to think hard in order to decipher whether a piece of information was of the past or the present. Being from either time period seemed improbable, but here they were. The tomb itself seemed old, yet new at the same time. Everything was in relatively pristine condition, save a scratch or faded letter here or there. Parts looked almost as though they were decaying but doing so unnaturally fast.

"Perhaps... well, I'm not sure we will be able to find out what exactly our purpose is until we leave this place," Khnurn said slowly. His stomach knotted at the thought, and he grimaced. "I am half afraid of what we will find."

The creatures' revelation of the exit seemed extra foreboding then, though the young man could not help but walk forward, albeit with some hesitancy. He placed the Khopesh blades at his side and shouldered the bow and quiver. The longer Khnurn avoided moving forward, the more he felt the urgency within him rise; it was an unsettling feeling, to say the least. With a sharp inhale, he pushed through the doorway and began walking along the narrow corridor, casting his eyes up and down the walls to either side. So many hieroglyphs... He did not stop to read them, though.

"We are in the modern world now, then, correct?" he asked, stopping suddenly. "We are dressed in ancient garb... I think we may be from the past, and I think we will get some very strange looks out there."

Khnurn turned back to look at Zahra. While he did not care much about what others thought of him or his appearance -- at least, he was fairly sure that it didn't affect him -- walking out in a tunic with ancient weapons hanging off of him was sure to catch unwanted attention. How was he supposed to fix that, though?
