Something about the way Priscilla’s hair flowed instantly caught Eden’s eyes. Even now, damp and relatively “unstyled”, the long dark locks spilled with an almost enchanted element to them. It made her want to reach out, run her finger through the hair, play with it mindlessly, make a million small braids in it. Almost. She could just contain her reaction, forcing her arm to stay at her side. It didn’t help that Priscilla was close enough to pick out each color in her eyes, the innumerable shades of blues and greens. Luckily enough for her, Priscilla stepped away before Eden could react, leaving her almost leaning into the empty air her roommate once occupied. She forced herself to blink twice. Get a hold of yourself. The blond yelled at herself silently. This is not the time to get all sapphic-y. The last thing she needed was to confuse feelings of bitterness with allurement, no matter how attractive Priscilla was. No matter how much Eden could just spend hours appreciating every aspect of her. No matter how much Priscilla intrigued her and confused her and disoriented her. Maybe this was going to be harder than she thought. Eden stumbled, coming to an abrupt halt as she didn’t expect Priscilla to step to the side, pulling open the door with her. A genuine smile escaped her lips, “Oh. Thanks” The blond commented, her voice lowering in her abashed state. She tried to pass through the door into the hallway without a hitch, but clumsy as she was, snagged the tip of her shoe on the raised floorboard, causing her to stumble forward, just managing to catch herself before face-planting the floor. A rush of heat instantly invaded her cheeks, rising up to her ears. She subconsciously tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear, trying her best to downplay the fumble, maybe Priscilla hadn’t even noticed it. As the pair stepped out of the large, multi-floor building, Eden took a moment to scan the campus, a warm feeling budding in her chest. While there were certainly moments where the prestige and academic demand of the university made her want to quit and join the circus with Kings, it was moments like these where it really felt like a second home. A couple of street lamps adorned the paved walkways, the warm light creating a soft atmosphere especially in the summer night. All of the buildings were connected with sidewalks, creating an almost labyrinthian feel, but after a year Eden knew the large campus like the back of her hand. She even had a few secret nooks hidden about, alcoves that not a lot of people knew about which resulted in great places to study or just catch a break whenever she needed it. One of her favorite things about campus, besides the vast woods the equestrian program had for trail riding and cross country, were all the large maple and fir trees that scattered the green areas of campus. The maple trees turned red in autumn, and the color contrast was just beautiful. Eden turned her head to glance at the shorter woman beside her, wondering if she had missed being at university as much as she had. Maybe she had siblings back home that she missed. Eden thought she could recall seeing a younger brother or sister at one of their competitions, but it had been so long ago that maybe she was just getting confused, or it was a whole figment of her imagination. “Did you enjoy summer break?” She decided the question was innocent enough, not too prying in case Priscilla wasn’t interested in exposing all of her personal life, which honestly Eden could understand. It didn’t take long for the riders to reach the dining hall, everything on main campus was usually less than a 10 minute walk from anything else. As she pulled open the doors, the smell of several different kinds of food flooded her senses. There were only a few stragglers around sitting down, having their own late dinners. The dining hall was almost never this quiet. On any normal day during normal hours, the place was packed with starving college students desperate for a meal, utensils clattering and a million conversations happening simultaneously. Eden glanced at the array of foods sitting in metal containers, fingers tapping against the plastic tray she picked up. She snagged one of the few bananas that actually looked ripe, and helped herself to a serving of the penne pasta with tomato sauce. It seemed like a simple enough dish, so it was probably a safe bet for a first meal back. (i was just thinking something like that! i considered doing it with that girl that eden had a fling with, but yours makes more sense since weston would actually have a reason to be there lmao. if you want him in the dinning hall go for it!)

Priscilla gave a little nod at the sound of Eden's little thank you. And as she went to take a step forwards, she immediately drew back, watching the way Eden's foot seemed to catch on something. Her gaze was on Eden the entire time as she stumbled forwards, looking as if she was about to face plant. Priscilla fought back a small snort of laughter, her hand immediately covering her mouth before any sound could escape. She turned slightly, pretending to be looking back in the dorm just to save Eden the embarrassment. After a moment she stepped out of the dorm and softly shut the door behind her. As they stepped outside, she could immediately hear the chirping of crickets and the soft sound of the breeze in the tree tops. Priscilla could see the little green-yellow flickering lights of fireflies that danced across the campus, creating a delicate show of light. The view had her entirely entranced. Her gaze slowly shifted to the sky above, which was a few different shades of deep navy. The stars were a twinkling array, the moonlight shimmering down on the campus and creating a silvery blanket. As she slowly lowered her gaze and caught a glimpse of the woman in front of her, her eyes widened and she felt her mouth go a little dry. Fuck. Any sort of feelings Priscilla had towards Eden in that moment all morphed into one- admiration. The blonde was beautiful in the sunlight.. but in the moonlight? Beautiful was an understatement. The way the soft silvery light of the moon mingled with the warm glow of the lamps lining the walkway, lighting Eden up in both colors. Half of her was engulfed in that warm golden glow, the other half in the silver. Priscilla felt her palms go a little sweaty as she continued to stare, lips slightly parted. She wasn't into women. There was absolutely no reason for her to just be staring at Eden like she's the holy grail. The stars in the sky and the fireflies that danced were now long forgotten by Priscilla as she stared at the newfound beauty in front of her. After a long moment of staring, she finally seemed to regain her senses and started to walk again, taking her place right beside Eden. But she couldn't help but look up at her, unable to stop. The way her hair was bathed in the mixed lights, every little feature that went unnoticed earlier being brought to view. It was absolutely disgusting how enthralling someone could be. As Eden turned to look down at her, Priscilla met her gaze for a moment before immediately looking away. Oh, god. Had she been caught staring like a goddamn idiot? She didn't even know what came over her. Sure, there were times when she'd stared a little too long at pretty women just because she was jealous. But this? This was entirely different, and she didn't like the feelings that coursed through her. They were unfamiliar and unwanted. Whenever Eden spoke to her, she paused, too focused on the sound of her voice rather than her words. "What? Oh.. uh, yeah. I guess. It was hard being so isolated." Priscilla murmured softly, immediately becoming embarrassed as she noticed how prominent that stupid southern accent of hers had become. She rolled her shoulders forward and let out a little breath, trying to clear her head up. Isolation was certainly the word to describe her summer. Priscilla came from a small conservative town in Georgia. There wasn't anything to do, and she wasn't exactly allowed to leave due to some.. problems she'd run into with her parents. Unfortunately for her, her parents found the old love letters and pictures from when she was with her little experimental girlfriend. Being raised in a small conservative town in the south, it's not like Priscilla was exposed to such things like same gender couples. Only when someone was talking down on it, telling Priscilla she better never end up like that. Priscilla always knew she was.. different. It was a feeling of dread that settled itself deep in the pits of her stomach one day and never left. Between all those times she thought she'd never learn how to pray the rosary, the times she'd lose count of her Hail Marys, the times she'd close her eyes so tight while uttering a prayer to be normal. Prisiclla could deny it, as she always had. But she could never escape it. And the worst part was, she wasn't sure what made her different. She just knew. Noticing how she had suddenly gone silent, Priscilla glanced up to Eden with an apologetic look. "Sorry. How was your summer break?" She added softly, her voice a lot quieter than it had been. At least back home, she could see her siblings. Her youngest sister, who was 15, was practically a miniature version of Priscilla. She always begged to be taught how to do eyeliner like her, how to properly ride a reining horse, how to play the cello. As they soon reached the dining hall, Priscilla had relaxed a little bit. There weren't too many people, and none of which she recognized. She followed in after Eden, finding herself examining what the options were. None of them seemed to appeal to her at the moment. Eating in general didn't exactly appeal to her, despite how hungry and nauseous she was. It was sort of funny, actually. She was hungry and dizzy, yet she didn't really want to eat. Her gaze landed on a small cooler type container with pre-packaged salads in them. Priscilla was far from someone who ate healthy, she fell victim to the temptation of sickly sweet things far too many times than she cared to admit. But right now, a salad seemed like it would be the easiest thing to stomach. She turned her head slightly, eyeing Eden as she got herself what seemed to be pasta. As Priscilla moved towards the cooler and bent slightly to look at the salad options, she suddenly felt a looming presence behind her. And then the arms that snaked around her waist, big and strong as they lifted her into the air with pure ease. Her immediate reaction was to begin struggling, kicking her feet slightly. And as the arms tightened, that was when pure panic set in. Her fighting became considerably more desperate until she heard a familiar voice in her ear, her eyes widening. "Scilla, calm down. It's just me." The voice that normally would've been soothing only brought her to a fearful realization. No matter how much she fought and kicked, her strength was no match for his. She hadn't even registered that her back was no longer against his chest- and she was now gazing into his pretty hazel eyes. When had he turned her? Priscilla was still dangling in the air, his arms firmly around her waist as she just stared at him. "You scared me." She spoke after a long moment, the pure and unbridled fear fading from her eyes. She hadn't even heard Weston as he came up behind her, nor had she seen him anywhere in the area. "Scared you? Darling, you know I'd never hurt you." Before she can even respond, she felt his lips on her cheek so suddenly. It made her internally cringe, both his words and actions. "Put me down." Her voice bordered on uncomfortable and on the verge of snapping, but he clearly hadn't picked up on that. As she felt her feet make contact with the tiled flooring again, she immediately takes a small step back. "That's no way to greet a friend. I've missed you." Again with that stupidly attractive voice of his. Weston was quite the attractive man, there was no denying that. His raspy deep voice, pretty hazel eyes, his impressive height. Their height difference was like something out of a movie- 5'2 and 6'2. Prisiclla had to physically tilt her head back just to look at him. He had the majority of the women in the university swooning over him. Yet, aside from the not so occasional hookups, he seemed to take great interest in Priscilla and only her. But his feelings were not reciprocated. "I didn't know scaring people was a way to greet them." The two stared at each other for a moment before she finally remembered Eden was still there. Her gaze flickered over to Eden, a look of annoyance bracing her features as he kept talking. That was when he seemed to notice Eden, too. "Who's this? I ain't never seen you two together." He took a step towards Eden, and Priscilla immediately moved herself in front of Eden, giving her a gentle smile. She didn't need him to be giving the poor woman unwanted attention. Priscilla paused for a moment, then spoke up. "Childhood friend of mine. We go waaaay back." She used her hands for dramatic effect, staring him down in a way that almost seemed predatory. In some strange way, she felt the need to defend Eden from someone of the likes of Weston. He finally seemed to catch on, and after a few more uttered words, began to leave. Once he was done, Priscilla turned to Eden with a heavy frown. "I am so, so sorry. I didn't uh.. expect him to be here?" She managed to stutter out, her accent becoming heavy once again as she grew more and more embarrassed. "Sorry. I'm not involved with him in any way.. he just.. has a tendency to not want to leave me alone." She breathed out, reaching a hand up to run through her wet hair. (this one's got a little kick to it. honestly? you could definitely still add in eden's fling. maybe they're sitting down to eat and her fling thinks scilla is her girlfriend 👀 haha just a little thought. honestly whatever you want to do, do it <3 )

Isolated? The word stuck out to Eden, a second question almost spilling out of her. “Fine, I guess.” Eden replied after hesitating for a moment. While she had been the one to first reach out with the question, she hadn’t expected it to be tossed back at her, though she obviously should’ve. “Pretty normal, dealing with annoying brothers all day, but there’s some nostalgia to it I suppose.” In all actuality, Eden got along great with both of her siblings. There was only a year difference between each of them, meaning they shared plenty of notorious experiences and childhood memories. The flickering illumination of fireflies quickly snagged her attention away for just a second, no matter how often she saw them Eden loved watching the peculiar insects fly around, occasionally lighting up the area around them. She gave a swift shake of her head, loosening her still-drying waves and giving them a more full appearance. The blond was standing over the utensils section, hands hovering over a fork when the sound of scuffling reached her ears from behind her. At first she couldn’t really understand the scene, seeing only the large, tall back of an obviously muscular guy facing her. It was only when the pair did a half-turn did Eden realize that it was a person he was holding- that it was Priscilla he was holding. Holding was an understatement, the black-haired woman was thrashing against him viciously, yet his arms remained tight against her sides, pinning her back to his chest. She set the tray down harshly, the plastic ricocheting slightly off the countertop. Just as she made her first step towards them, the uncanny stranger set her down, but not before connecting his lips with her cheek. Eden tried to analyze him from a distance, her bronze eyes taking in every detail she could of him. It was almost like she recognized, or felt like she should recognize him but couldn’t quite pin from where. Her feet implored for her to get closer, see if Priscilla was alright, something about the stark dread in her blue eyes made all the hair on her arms bristle up. Before she could even make the choice, the odd pair seemed to regain consciousness of her presence, or at least Priscilla had first, the tall stranger only glancing at her afterwards. The large, empty hall easily reverberated each sound, his question ringing clear. The low rasp accompanied a few footsteps, and she was tempted to take one herself and narrow the distance between them to get a closer look of him. Eden’s honeyed eyes squinted, an involuntary frown making itself apparent. Who was he and why the hell did he jostle Priscilla around like that? Why was Priscilla so defensive around him? Most importantly: why did the kiss piss off Eden so much? Despite the curiosity, Eden’s eyes were cut off as her roommate stepped in front of her, her raven hair occupying her range of vision. The saccharine scent of vanilla and floras was ever more prominent, and if it hadn’t been for the weird interaction at hand, Eden probably would’ve been enthralled in the perfume, and at being so close to Priscilla. The distance between them was meter centimeters. After only a few more short exchanges of conversation, the muscular stranger went off on his way, leaving the blond looking down at Priscilla with a perplexed expression on her face. Her brows furrowed, expressing her disapprovement so plainly Eden couldn’t hide it even if she tried. “Does he know you’re not involved with him?” The sharp comment came out far austere than she had intended, a quick intake of breath quickly following. “Sorry, I know it’s like not really my business or anything.” Her bottom lip was swiftly ensnared by her teeth, wondering if her reaction would be taken the wrong way. “Though if you want him to leave you alone he should probably learn to take a hint.” The last few notes went higher in pitch, hoping to ease some of the weird awkwardness that flooded the space between them. “So…childhood friends, huh?” She figured her attempt at a joke would be harmless enough, if anything it would at least get Priscilla’s mind off that guy. “Not exactly how I’d describe it but to each their own.” She said, the sarcasm bringing out a small chuckle at the end. She finally turned her head, daring to meet Priscilla’s blue eyes, her own softening. She glanced back at her abandoned plastic tray, the past and banana looking much less appealing. “Grab you a fork?” She offered out softly, giving the shorter girl a reassuring smile. Eden decided to give Priscilla a moment, gathering her things and a few extra napkins before settling at a nearby table, which was of course empty. (i'm sure becca will make an appearance in my next post ;) you can even introduce her if you want!)

Priscilla let out an annoyed huff as she immediately began to smooth her clothes down, an almost disgusted look on her face. She had just showered, and she didn't want to again. But she knew his unwanted touch would linger on her skin until it was washed off. She didn't understand his odd little obsession with her, it was like she just couldn't get away. Every corner she turned, he was there. Maybe if she just gave in and gave him what he wanted, he'd leave her alone and move on to the next girl. Maybe it was the thrill of the chase that kept him so interested in pursuing her. Either way, she just wanted him to leave her alone. Maybe she should go find herself an occasional hookup to flaunt. The idea had crossed her mind quite a few times more than she'd like to admit. But even with casual hookups, it was still so easy for her to catch feelings. How could she not fall in love with someone after learning their body like the back of her hand? She just couldn't do it. Priscilla subconsciously rubbed along her waist as she gazed at Eden, her nose crinkling slightly at her words. "I've told him so many times to just.. fuck off. And what does he do? This type of shit." Priscilla brought one hand up to her nose, pinching the bridge in pure annoyance. After letting out a soft, exasperated sigh, she forced herself to calm down and let the disgust leave her. Though at Eden's next words, a little smile formed on her lips. "Come on. What was I supposed to say? Hey, this is the girl I've made miserable for half my life?" She shook her head softly, turning her head to hide the smile that was growing wider. Her words were purely teasing, even if they had truth behind them. She could hardly even remember how their rivalry even started in the first place. From what she could remember, one of them beat the other at some high stakes competition. And from there it was just mutual dislike until they began to do stupid petty little things. Of course, there were some more major things that resulted in the genuine dislike rather than just a little hard feelings. Sabotaging tack, for example. Western tack was far from cheap, any tack was for that matter. And for them to be running around destroying each other's tack, that they probably didn't even pay for? Yeah, that wasn't the best thing. As Eden spoke, she nodded softly. "Yeah. Thank you." She cautiously moved back over to the cooler, her body tense as she glanced behind her just to make sure she wouldn't be hoisted into the air again. Priscilla hadn't quite recovered from her initial shock or fear yet. It was still coursing heavily through her and she couldn't quite shake it off. She didn't even bother to browse the options this time, she just reached out and grabbed the one closest to her. Prisiclla quietly walked back over to the table Eden chose, taking a seat across from her. She considered sitting next to her, but felt it would be a little odd and taken the wrong way. Her shoulders were a little tense as she shifted her position, crossing one leg over the other. "You know, I never thought we'd be eating dinner together." Priscilla let out a small chuckle and shook her head, finding the whole thing a little humorous. Before this year, she went out of her way to avoid Eden completely anytime she saw her. And now? They were sitting together, practically just the two of them, eating a late dinner. And then they'd go back to their shared dorm and practically sleep in the same bed with how close together the beds were. Priscilla just couldn't quite wrap her head around it. She took one hand to gently hold the salad in place as she peeled off the plastic top, setting it to the side. Caesar salad with grilled chicken, not a bad option considering she'd just grabbed at one at random. Inside was a little plastic dish with two sides, one with chicken and the other with cheese. In the center was a cup of dressing. Taking care not to spill any on the table, she took the cup and dish out and turned the dish upside down. Priscilla peeled the little plastic lid off of the ranch before she poured it into the salad. So much packaging, and for what? Those stupid little salads were supposed to be for convenience, yet it seemed like she just had to continually open things. Priscilla reached out to grab the fork Eden had got for her, using it to carefully mix the salad up. It definitely didn't look or smell too appealing. Normally, she liked to drench her salads in ranch. Which completely defeated the whole entire purpose. But hey, at least it was good? She glanced around the dining hall, which was nearly completely dead at this point. It was only them and a few other lingering people who were finishing up. She picked around at the salad with her fork, trying to delay the eating process. There really was no point. The sooner they both finished, the sooner they could go back and go to sleep. Which was definitely what seemed to be the most appealing thing for her right now. Finally, she stabbed her fork through a few pieces of lettuce and chicken. The taste was thankfully pretty bland, as she wasn't sure she could really handle anything too flavorful at the moment. A few more bites, and she could already feel herself beginning to get sick. She knew she had to finish it, even if she didn't want to. Her stomach would always settle down, but she couldn't get rid of the stabbing hunger pains without eating something. She momentarily looked over to Eden, having been reminded of her presence again after catching a subtle whiff of her perfume. It was one of those lingering smells that never really went away, but became stronger at random times. That was when she noticed someone approaching. Her brows furrowed as she lifted her head slightly, then looked back to Eden. "Do you know her?" Priscilla asked quietly, wondering who the hell would be so bold as to just waltz right up to them. Maybe it was one of Eden's friends? But then again, she didn't recall ever really seeing this woman around campus. (i'll let you have the honors <3 )

“Honestly, if someone told me we’d even just be able to have a civil conversation I’d probably think they were crazy.” Eden replied, giving out a small laugh. It was certainly a surprise, albeit a pleasant one. She could only hope that they’d be able to maintain this sort of candid neutrality? She wouldn’t go as far as to say that they’re already friends, but after all their history it seemed weird to just call themselves acquaintances or roommates. It went farther than that, they basically grew up together. Sometimes Eden saw Priscilla more days of the week than her actual best friends. Especially in the summer, during competition season. With the amount of times they crossed paths, one would’ve thought they were training at the same barn. In a way, that’s what made it so easy for them to play those stupid pranks on one another. Things like stealing and hiding stuff like halters or buckets in random areas, or intentionally making the other miss a class. There were worse offenses, but for the most part it was just annoying to constantly deal with. At least for Eden, it got to a point where she couldn’t stand going to another show, hence the change in discipline. Jumping had already piqued a huge interest in her, but it wasn’t easy for Eden to let go of everything she knew and dive into a new discipline. She debated the matter for years, finally taking advantage of having to retire her old reining mare to be able to justify the switch. At first, she left practically useless, like almost none of her previous skills were applicable in dressage and jumping. Eventually, she learned the common ground between both disciplines, figuring out what skills were easiest to translate over and going up from there. After that click, the blond made massive improvements, going up the eventing levels far faster than she would have imagined. After two years of competing on her trainer’s horses it was evidently time that she had to find her own equine partner. She stared down at the now luke-warm pasta in front of her, tossing pieces back and forth indecisively. She had already managed to get down about half the portion, but Eden wasn’t sure whether it was the shy nerves from having dinner with Priscilla or the odd situation with Weston that made her stomach shrink, the dish now particularly unappetizing. She’d at least take the banana back to their dorm, seeing as it’d make a good breakfast for the next day. She pushed the plastic tray away from her slightly, reclining back into the stiff cafeteria seats. As she finally began to settle into the chair, Eden realized just how much her own body was weighing her down, almost sinking herself into the plastic seat. Exhaustion tugged at all her muscles, a yawn threatening to arise. After all, driving a trailer for four hours, getting all her gear and supplies settled in at the barn, then moving her own belongings into the dorm, an impromptu grocery run and unexpected tête-à-tête with Priscilla of all people, it’s no wonder all of it finally caught up with her. Maybe it was the shower, the warm water loosening the tension she carried, or Priscilla’s own perfume, soothing yet tantalizing. Whatever it was, Eden was set to call it a night as soon as the pair were ready to head back to their dorm. At least, she was before Priscilla’s odd question made her head lifted up in confusion. The blond’s heart dropped, skipping a beat. Not the time. She thought silently to herself, but she forced a somewhat friendly face towards the on-coming face. She stood up abruptly, hoping to intercept the woman before she confronted the pair of riders. It wasn’t like there was any isolated reason she didn’t want Rebecca and Priscilla to meet, but something in her intuition told her that they probably wouldn’t get along too well. Too similar? Too different maybe? Eden couldn’t quite pinpoint exactly what it was but knew it’d be better if she talked to Rebecca alone. “Hey, Becca! How have you been?” The words came out rushed, Eden taking large strides to meet the red-headed woman as far away from the table as she could. “I’m sorry I’ve been so MIA all summer, it was a really intense season with Waves, I just haven’t had that much time to talk to people.” She hoped the spontaneous excuse was convincing enough. And it’s not like it wasn’t true, there was just some slight exaggeration to it. Eden had definitely kept in touch with her other uni friends, especially the eventing team. Okay, maybe it was just Becca she was avoiding. She gazed up at her, having forgotten how tall she was. The red-head stood at an even 5’6, with dark red-auburn hair and absolutely speckled with freckles. She had light green eyes with wisps of blue, long dark brown eyelashes and plump, peach lips. There was no denying her charm. “I was wondering when I’d see your face again.” The cool eyes crinkled in amusement. “I was getting kind of worried for a second.” Becca’s diamond-shaped head tilted slightly forward, momentarily glancing at the table and the woman behind Eden. “Who’s Waves?” She asked plainly, her Tennessee accent lilting the sounds.

Her gaze followed Eden's again, watching as she abruptly stood up to meet the woman. Odd. Were they close friends? While they were a little ways away, it was quiet and she could hear anything they said. Instead of obviously sitting there eavesdropping, she pulled her phone from the pocket of her shorts, nails grazing her skin gently. It would really do her some good to not get stilleto next time, as she was often left with scratches everywhere from the sharp points. They were very pretty though, she had to admit. Her mind instantly went to Kadie, as it usually did. Maybe Priscilla had some underlying feelings for the much taller woman, who was also her partner in crime. Not that she would ever admit such a thing, though. When it came to Kadie, she was shameless. Priscilla didn't care what she did around the woman, she let loose. But she didn't have it in her to even mention the odd feelings towards her. She quickly pulled up her contact, gazing at the stupid picture and and name she had chosen. Kadie was a pretty woman, there was no denying it. Her thumbs graced the keyboard, sending a quick text. you free tomorrow kd? Yeah. When and where? usual coffee shop after classes. i have a lot to tell you It's a date, then. in your dreams Whatever you say. :) Priscilla rolled her eyes at the last text, sending a few more texts to keep her focus away from Eden and the woman for a little longer. She was still listening to them, trying her best to gather some sort of information. Friends, perhaps. But definitely not close. Even though Kadie stopped replying to their conversation, she continued to sit on her phone, pretending to not pay attention. Had she been with anyone else and had Eden not seemed to urgent to get up and talk to the woman, she probably would've introduced herself and joined in on conversation. But it seemed like Eden probably would appreciate that and she didn't want to fuck up whatever they had going. Since they had both chosen somewhat similar majors, maybe Priscilla could use the opportunity to get a little closer by helping Eden out, or vice versa. In the strangest way, she felt the urge to get close to Eden. She wanted to be friends with her. She wanted to know the good things about her, like her lifelong dreams rather than what can annoy her the most. At least she knew what not to do around her. Priscilla swiped aimlessly around on her phone screen, trying to find something to occupy herself with. She shifted around uncomfortably in the plastic seat, feeling her bare legs beginning to stick to it. Perfect. Upon catching the very distinct accent of the woman she'd now known to be Becca, her brows furrowed. Tennessee? Did Eden just prefer to hang around people with funny accents? Even though Priscilla herself had a heavy southern drawl, she still did enjoy making fun of others with the same accent. Hearing herself speak sounded normal, but after being away from the south for awhile, anyone with a southern accent sounded ridiculous. Going home for summer break was like stepping into a whole new world again. Maybe that was why most people in the university looked at her funny when she started talking; they couldn't understand her. Priscilla looked back down at her phone, shifting around once more in the seat as the awkwardness grew heavy in the air. Maybe it was just her feeling it. She couldn't help but sneak little glances of the pair. Whoever this woman was to Eden, she felt a little bit jealous. It was an odd thing to feel jealous over some random woman she'd never met, and a little humbling to say the least. Once again, she turned her attention back to her phone. She tapped a random game, her nail making a little click against the screen. It was one of those stupid little word search games. She didn't know what was worse: the fact she had the game, or the fact she was on level 1,000. Priscilla quickly tried to immerse herself into the game, but her mind was too focused on the exchange between Eden and Becca. Damn it, why couldn't she just.. stop paying attention? Priscilla considered getting up to throw her trash away, but then decided she didn't exactly want to bring attention to herself. Her salad was already forgotten about since the sharp pains in her stomach were soothed for now. That was until she woke up randomly in the middle of the night, wanting something sweet as a midnight snack. She really needed to go out and buy herself some candy for that very reason. Her legs crossed at the ankes and swung slightly back and forth as she continued to shift uncomfortably. Her legs kept sticking to the plastic of the chair and she was growing a little restless with the need to get up and do something. Priscilla kept glancing from her phone to the pair of women, eyeing up this Becca girl every chance she got. She didn't want to say it, but she was rather pretty. At least from what she could see from this angle, anyways. She always likes redheads, especially when they had that one specific shade of auburn hair. For a moment, a thought crossed her mind. What if she seemed rude by not saying anything? Okay, so what. Who gave a damn if she didn't want to talk to a stranger who randomly walked up to them? The thought was lingering in her mind, and she felt half tempted to get up and go introduce herself.
She would've, had she not already been sitting there on her phone for the past few minutes. It'd be awkward if she just got up now. Wait, would it really be awkward? Or was she just making that up to convince herself not to say anything? Now her brows were furrowed in frustration as her thoughts began to jumble together and contradict themselves. Eden’s light blond eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Did Rebecca really not remember her horse? It wasn’t like she expected the other woman to suddenly be an expert in all things equine, but she could at least remember his name. Or the fact that Eden rides horses at all. “Um- my horse. I do competitions and stuff with him.” Her tone uncharacteristically flat. That was another thing about Becca that made Eden a bit wary. It was like she love-bombed when in person, but never seemed to retain anything? As if nothing went deeper than the surface. It wasn’t like Eden was looking for a relationship either- she was fine with this whole situationship thing they had going, but she’d like it if Becca at least took the slightest interest in what she had to say. Eden had even invited her to visit the barn sometime, meet Kinsley, see part of her world, but it was evident she had no intentions of ever going, after the southern girl stammered her way through some pseudo excuse. “Ohh, yes. You’re in that horse program thing the university has.” Becca’s accent widening the vowels. The redhead gave a short flirty laugh, her hooded eyes looking down at the blond. “I was gonna text ya and see if you were planning on going to any party or something.” She ran a hand through her long, warm hair. “Maybe we could’ve met up someplace.” Eden gave a half-hearted chuckle, “I would’ve but between moving in at the barn and my dorm, it’s just been a long day.” She explained, giving an exaggerated sigh. That and the fact that meeting up with her was definitely not a first on her priority list. Rebecca’s green eyes narrowed as she glanced behind Eden’s back over to Priscilla. Her voice lifted with a feign friendliness. “Is your girlfriend over there part of the program too?” A small yelp caught in the middle of Eden’s throat at the comment, though she managed to mask it with a rough cough. Her warm eyes widened in surprise, the remark totally blindsiding her. “No, well yes- but no,” She faltered, automatically toying with her hands. “Yes, she’s in the program, but no, we’re just roommates. But I’ve known her for years.” Eden finally managed to clarify, choosing her words delicately, her voice lowering in her exhaustion. Her mind was already frazzled enough with everything else the day threw at her. She glanced back at the dark-haired woman sitting behind her, a slight flush filling her cheeks. “Listen, I promise we’ll catch up soon, we’ve both just had a long day.” Eden apologized, taking a step back towards the table, “I’ll see you around though.” She added in, throwing the redhead what she hoped was a sincere smile. Trying not to spin too quickly on her heel she stepped the few paces back, sitting down at the table with a huff. Once she was sure that Becca had turned around, she let her head fall into her hands. “I’m so sorry. I hope you didn’t hear that.” Her voice muffled by her hands. “That’s Becca. I met her last year in my Intro to Biology class and…” The blond trailed off, unsure of how much of herself to expose. “...she can just be a lot sometimes.” Her bronze eyes dropped down to her lap, refusing to meet Priscilla’s gaze. Should she mention that she had this thing with Becca? Would Priscilla find it weird? Eden wasn’t a stranger to homophobia, she did live in the southern united states after all, but something about the western rider daunted her. Like confessing a big secret to a best friend, the same fear of rejection from someone you know. She played with one of her fingers, desperately wishing she had but at least one of her rings back on after her shower.

Priscilla continued to awkwardly listen to their conversation, gritting her teeth at the redhead's flirty tone and little laughs. Maybe they weren't just friends, perhaps a little more. The thought crossed her mind and it made her wildly uncomfortable to even think about Eden being involved with someone in that way. Definitely not something she wanted to linger on her mind, that's for sure. To Priscilla, it seemed ultimately clear that Eden was trying to hurry the conversation up. Her phone had turned off, showing only a black screen with her reflection in it. Upon seeing her reflection, her half dried wavy hair and the uncomfortable look on her face, she immediately turned the phone back on to rid of the image of herself. Gross. Feeling eyes on her, she slowly lifted her head and turned it, brows furrowed. She made direct eye contact with the redhead, unable to hide the nasty scowl on her face. But the next words stunned her into complete silence and shock, her mouth slightly agape in something akin to horror. Girlfriend? Did Eden say Priscilla was her girlfriend earlier, and she just somehow didn't catch it? She blinked a few times and tried to make sure she'd heard the redhead right. Oh, lord. She didn't want to have people thinking she liked women like that- even if some little part of her seemed to have blatant interest for women. As Eden looked back at her, her brows raised in a questioning way after hearing her stammering to explain their.. situation. Not quite friends, but not quite enemies anymore. At least on her side of things. Priscilla watched as Eden tried to hurriedly end the conversation, taking a step back like she was scared of the redhead in front of her. The whole scene would've been funny, had she not been so utterly stunned by just one word. As both women turned around and went their separate ways, she watched as Eden sat at the table again and let her head fall into her hands. Priscilla was watching with an amused look on her face as Eden spoke in a muffled tone. "Girlfriend? I didn't know we were a couple. Not that I'm complaining, though." Priscilla mimicked the flirty tone Becca had used, although her words were immediately followed by a snort of laughter. She could see the way Eden looked down at her lap and refused to meet her gaze. Either she was embarrassed or just thinking things over. A bit of both, perhaps. She knew her teasing definitely wouldn't help, but she physically just couldn't resist. Her words had slipped out before she could even think about saying them. The stupid teasing smirk on her face faltered a little bit as she saw Eden playing with her finger in the way one would do with a ring. Priscilla looked down at her own hand, looking at the pretty stone arrayed with shades of violet and blue. It glimmered in the light of the dining hall, sparkling like a diamond would. For a moment, a thought crossed her mind. It was something she would've never considered, but she felt an odd pity for Eden in this moment. Weird, she'd never once felt bad for the blonde before. But there's a first time for everything, right? After a short moment of thought, she made up her mind on if she wanted to follow through with this. Priscilla leaned forwards halfway over the table, reaching one hand out to gently remove one of Eden's from her face. That little smirk she had was wiped away, replaced by a much softer expression and gentle smile. Eden's hand was warm in her own as she gently held it, her thumb rubbing across the back of Eden's hand in gentle strokes. She knew when to quit the teasing, and this was one of those times. Something about Eden's mannerisms just gave her a bit of an odd feeling. Was Eden okay? It had happened so suddenly. Still gently holding Eden's hand, she used her other to slowly slip the pretty sapphire ring off of her own hand. It was not something she'd ever done, nor had really intended to do. But Priscilla slowly used the hand holding Eden's to lift it up a little, taking hold of one of her fingers to extend it outwards. She gently slipped her ring onto the extended finger, holding onto Eden's hand for a little longer than she should've. Maybe it was to try and help soothe Eden, maybe it was just an excuse to touch her. Priscilla herself didn't even know her reasoning for it. She gingerly put Eden's hand down onto the table and it was only then she realized the placement of the ring. On her left hand, on her ring finger. Just how Priscilla wore it. She hadn't meant to put it there, but that's just where it ended up. "People can be a lot sometimes," she offered a small smile as she spoke in a soft tone, "believe me, I know. You can play with that for as long as you need." She smiled softly, gesturing down to the ring. While she definitely didn't know the full history between Eden and Becca, she assumed there were some underlying feelings that didn't seem to be positive? Not that she could be sure, but it was the vibes she had picked up. Her body shuddered a little in pure discomfort as she remembered the earlier interaction with Weston, her shoulders going a little tense. Priscilla hadn't quite realized it yet, but her and Eden were now matching. The ring, the necklace. She didn't quite intend for Eden to keep the ring, but only wanted to try and provide her some sort of comfort for the moment. To Priscilla, her form of comfort was smothering hugs and cuddles. But it's not like she could really provide Eden with those. That would definitely be a very, very uncomfortable situation. She felt the temptation to reach out and grab Eden's hand again, to lace their fingers together and just feel the warmth of her hands. She gazed down at Eden's hand, an odd sensation coursing through her as she took in the sight of her ring on someone else. And that was when she noticed the placement of the ring. Oh. Prisiclla felt an immediate heat rise to her cheeks and her palms became a little sweaty. Hopefully Eden wouldn't say anything. Hopefully she wouldn't even notice that it was on her ring finger. Did this mean they were engaged? Oh, god. Did she just accidentally propose to Eden without even saying a single thing? The thoughts were silly, but they were genuine in that moment. Eden’s immediate reaction to the teasing would have been to laugh- under other circumstances she enjoyed making jokes, laughing at herself and just generally trying to not take anything too seriously. But there was something that just put her off from continuing the banter with Priscilla. Eden could feel the sleepiness and weight in her bones, the last thing she was looking to face was teasing from her former enemy about an obnoxious fling. The blond opened her mouth as if to make some quick reply, maybe just tell the western rider off and to give her a break, when she realized exactly what she had said. Eden’s face quickly flushed, a slight rosyness dusting the tips of her cheek and across her nose bridge. Was she actually flirting with her? Or just taking advantage of the situation to tease her like old times? An odd mix of ire and embarrassment swelled in her chest; she couldn’t help but blush at the flirting but something about Priscilla teasing her still set off alarm bells in her mind, as if a defense mechanism. Eden met her steel blue eyes through the gaps of her fingers for just a second, squinting as if trying to understand her intention. Flirting just seemed to come naturally to Priscilla. She had a way of wrapping everyone around her finger. It was ridiculous how much the cowboys fell head over heeled boots for her at shows. They were constantly at her beck and call, offering to hold her horse or give advice about the arena footing, though Priscilla was never one to need any of their help. Eden never quite understood why that particular detail annoyed her so much, why it bothered her that everyone was so drawn to the black-haired rider. She had always chalked it up to jealousy she supposed, given that they were always neck-and-neck in placings, but that stark feeling had come back when Weston was around too. Why would Eden be jealous of this random guy she never met? It didn’t make sense. Her frustration began to escalate, overwhelmed with emotions, and just when she was about to let it get the best of her, a soft hand reached out. Eden let her hand be gently brought away from her face, meeting Priscilla’s gaze head-on. To her surprise, the shorter woman’s usual smirk was gone, her sapphire eyes much softer and offering a sympathetic smile. The blond wore her surprise plainly, not quite reacting for a moment. Before today, Eden wasn’t even aware of this empathetic and affectionate side of her. There had only been a few fleeting moments where she was able to observe Priscilla around friends or her family, and honestly, she hadn’t been paying much attention to the dynamic between them. The soothing motion of Priscilla’s thumb along the back of her hand got her to uncover the other half of her face, her shoulders releasing all the tension it had once carried. She returned the clement smile almost unconsciously, her body reacting before her mind. Priscilla’s hand felt both foreign yet intimate in her own, Eden’s fingertips just grazing the inside of her palm. Before she had a chance to oppose, Priscilla already taken off her elaborate ring, silently slipping it onto the eventer’s third finger. Mystically, the ring seemed to fit almost perfectly, nestling right at the base of her finger. For a moment Eden simply admired the stoneware, her bronze eyes catching every detail she could spot. The jewelry really was exquisitely made, the silver bezel lustrous and clearly kept meticulously polished. The gemstone on the other hand was genuinely captivating, the azure jewel flickered under the LED lights, the highlights reflecting off the sharp corners and edges of the stone. Her mind wondered how it would look alongside the rest of her usual accessories, considering Priscilla just happened to coincidently place it on one of two fingers that the blond didn’t keep religiously adorned. The soft release of her hand from Priscilla’s grasp brought her eyes back to the woman in front of her, and she couldn’t help feeling suddenly colder at the loss of contact. “Tell me about it.” Eden managed to chuckle out, grateful for the fact that she seemed to understand, and even moreso for the fact that she didn’t pry for more. She met Priscilla’s eyes with a heartfelt half-smile, biting her lip as she felt another rush of blood fill her cheeks. Her roommate’s empathy was distinctly unexpected, and while the solace was comforting; it also left Eden feeling a bit vulnerable, or exposed. Her eyes fell back down towards the table, no longer able to meet Priscilla’s numbing gaze. “Thank you, I almost always have my own rings so I can give my hands something to do, I fidget a lot otherwise and it’s just distracting.” Eden explained softly, the pad of her thumb already tracing the edge of the ring. The blond sat back deeper in the plastic seat, stretching her arm slightly forward so as to appreciate the jewelry. “You know, I wear rings on like almost every single finger except this one and my thumb.” She murmured, her voice growing hoarse in the lower register. Her bronze eyes half-closed with amusement, the corners of her mouth upturning slightly as it finally clicked in her mind which finger Priscilla had placed the ring on. She hesitated as if considering the pros and cons of teasing Priscilla right back, before flipping her hand around so that the back of it faced the woman sitting across from her. “Is uh, that supposed to mean something?” Eden asked sarcastically, waving her fingers slightly as to emphasize the implication of the placement, a rare mischievous glint in her eyes. Priscilla still was very curious about the history behind Eden and Becca, although she knew better than to pry or try and get any information out of Eden. How funny that both of them had some sort of run-in with people they didn't seem to be overly fond of in the span of 20 minutes. Just the mere thought of Weston again brought a foul taste to her tongue, making her lips curl slightly in disgust. It's not that he wasn't attractive or charming, because god was he both of those things. The prettiest eyes she'd ever seen on a man, that soft brunette hair she could run her fingers through forever. But something about his odd obsession irked her. More often than not, she considered hooking up with him. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing to do, but then she knew that word would somehow get around. It would spread like a wildfire, and sooner or later the whole university would know she slept with him. But still, the thought of it caused a feeling all too familiar to her to stir in her lower belly. She shifted in her seat uncomfortably, feeling the heat on her cheeks from the thought. She'd crack eventually, she knew that. Maybe if she just found some horribly bad trait about him and focused on it.. she wouldn't be so tempted to give him what he wanted. Priscilla subtly shook her head as if to rid of the thoughts for now. She let out a soft breath, reaching her hands up to her hair to anxiously comb through it. It was still half dry, half wet. The wet strands clung to her fingers and were easily pulled out, causing some strands to loosely dangle from her fingers as she withdrew them. Priscilla lowered her hand down under the table and shook the strands off, letting them fall onto the floor. Her gaze landed on Eden again, blue eyes softening once more at the sight of her. Her hands still covering her face, peeking out from behind the gaps of her fingers. Once Eden had took both hands away from her face, Priscilla gave a little smile. She had looked so overwhelmed moments ago, making Priscilla wonder if she pushed her teasing too far. They were both tired, definitely making them both a lot more irritable than they normally would've been. The last thing she wanted was for an argument to ensue just because both of them were crabby from exhaustion. It would most likely be best if they went back to the dorm soon, since there wasn't much point in hanging around in the dining hall. Once the ring had been slipped onto Eden's finger, Priscilla watched as she seemed to admire the stone. It wasn't really something you'd commonly find anymore, especially since that ring in particular was vintage. An heirloom passed for a few generations that Priscilla would pass on to her daughter, if she ever did have one. The particular thought stuck with her for a moment.. did she want kids? Would she ever have any? It was a topic best thought about in the future, not the present. At Eden's words, she gave a small chuckle and a nod in agreement. People truly were too much. Or maybe her social battery was just drained, who knew. "Of course. I do the same thing, or else I'll end up picking at my fingers." Priscilla gave a small sigh as she spoke, glancing down to her fingers. While they weren't exactly torn up at the moment, there were a few visible scars from where it looked like she'd picked the skin completely away one too many times. Small odd colorations, not quite that visible unless you were really looking at her fingers. It was also a reason for her nails, to distract from the small scars she was so self conscious about. "I've noticed. You know, I was actually really tempted to reach out and play with them when you had them on earlier. But that would've been really weird, wouldn't it?" Priscilla rambled on slightly, nails tapping softly against the white and blue speckled laminate top of the table. It hadn't quite registered with her that she'd admitted such a thing yet, and it seemed like she wasn't going to realize it at all. Exhaustion was creeping in fully and settling itself there, causing her mind to become a little hazy and to speak without thinking. Priscilla noticed the corners of Eden's lips turning upwards, causing her brows to furrow a little bit. She watched as Eden placed her hand down in front of her, backside up. This caused her brows to fully furrow in confusion, wondering what compelled to do that. Until she heard what she said. In an instant, she felt a subtle little blush on her nose and her cheeks. But she wasn't going to let her surprise show, she was going to right along with this. It wasn't often that Eden had teased her as kids, so she knew it likely wasn't something regular for Eden. "Damn, you've caught me. I was hoping to keep our engagement a secret from you." Priscilla let out a heavy, dramatic sigh and watched as Eden waved her fingers slightly around. "I'm not into women but I don't know, you were just too tempting to pass up." She tried her best to fight back the little giggles of amusement, but she failed miserably. Her hand went up to her mouth to cover it, shaking her head slightly. Priscilla wouldn't push it too far, even if she really wanted to keep the teasing up. Especially since Eden was the one to initiate it this time. After a minute of her stupid giggling she finally managed to calm it down. She really wondered what her kid self would think right now if she knew they would've met again, but weren't at each other's throats. Who knew, maybe this was all a ruse and neither of them knew it yet. Maybe something horrible would happen between them that would spark their stupid rivalry again. Feeling the sudden need to do something with her hands, she instinctively reached to begin toying with her ring. But of course, she'd given it to Eden. Her hands then move up to her necklace, playing with the pendant. She still had her pearls on, that sort of choker around her throat rather than settled between her collarbones like the pendant was. She didn't often play with the pearls, given their delicate state. Priscilla glanced down at her pendant, and only then it seemed to click in her mind. They were matching. Priscilla pauses for a moment before she gently leans down, bringing the pendant outwards so it's close to Eden's hand. "How odd. It's almost like.. we're meant to be." Priscilla let out a few giggles, feeling them start up again. She literally just couldn't resist making the comment instead of being serious for once. Edited at January 20, 2024 08:27 PM by honeymoon
