"That's how I feel about Cassandra. I don't know where I'd be if it wasn't for her," Aspen stated and got up to follow the prince. He let him work on the flowers and let him have his space. He was just there for emotional support, a reminder that he wasn't alone. While he worked on the bouquets, Aspen examined the flowers in the meadow. He was trying to understand flowering but it never came as easy to him as farming did. He couldn't tell flowers apart to save his life. He followed the prince back inside and once he had finished with the bouquets, Aspen stepped back to admire their beauty. "It's beautiful," He observed. He stood in the middle of the room, making sure not to touch a single thing. Even opening a window and adding a bouquet seemed to bring this room to life,"You did a good job." |

Avery sighed.
"If only she was here. She knew how to make things better, no matter what." He brushed the dust off the top of a frame, and stared at the picture inside. It was of just him and Emily, and they were older. She had her hair up in the braid he talked about earlier, and she had her arms around him. He was smiling, a real smile, and his hair was still long. He hadn't cut it until she died. He was wearing a suit, and she was wearing a green dress, silk, by the looks of it.
It was a nice picture, whoever had done it had captured her spirit perfectly. Avery picked up the picture, studying it. "I don't really look anything like that anymore," he said softly, trying to compare it to the more recent pictures of himself that he'd seen.
Obviously, he looked older, but a sense of the fun and humor was gone from his face.
"She was my guiding light. Without her, I was...so lost." His voice broke, and he set the picture back down. "Em always said she'd be there. If only I had been there. God, today is just a repeat of then."
He was glad he'd set the picture back down, because he was shaking again. He sat down again, putting his head in his hands. |

Aspen approached the prince to see the photo he was looking at. He leaned against the back of the desk chair to peer over Prince Avery's shoulder. This time it was just a picture of her and Prince Avery. They were older. She had her hair in a braid, her arms wrapped around him, and they both looked happy. "I don't really look anything like that anymore." "No you don't but I like this you," He smiled,"And past you too. Both yous are perfect but I do wish I could see a smile like that more often. You look so happy." "She was my guiding light. Without her, I was...so lost." a voice crack. He placed a hand on his shoulder and gave it a light squeeze. "Em always said she'd be there. If only I had been there. God, today is just a repeat of then." "Today is not your fault," He insisted again,"And you are not to blame for her death either. You need to stop blaming yourself, it's not your fault. You're a good man, it doesn't take a genius to see that." |

Avery raised an eyebrow. "Then why is it my fault that both of them are going to die? If I had been a better brother, Robbie would have driven safer, or I would've gone with him, and kept him driving safer. I could've told him the track was a bit damp, and he needed to take slower corners. But I thought he'd be fine. Now look at him. He's in the hospital, and he can't even breathe by himself." Avery could feel his breath speeding up, and he took a few calming breaths.
"And if I had been there with Em, I could've told her it was too much, and she needed to take a break, because she still wasn't the Incredible Hulk, she'd still be here, and then Robbie would still be here!"
Averys voice was rough and raw, and he slammed his hand down on the desk.
"I'm going out," he muttered. "See you later."
He didn't actually care if Aspen followed, but it was worth a shot. He stalked out of the house, heading to the side of the island closest to the house, where the cliffs were. They had cliff dived millions of times before, him and Emily, holding hands, him and Emily, with Robbie in the middle.
Avery stripped off his dress shirt, and stood at the edge of the cliffs, staring down at the waves. |

He jumped back from the prince at another outburst of anger and grief Aspen didnt know what to say, he was in shock at how sudden it was. His eyes portrayed that feeling, them widening at the prince's outburst. The prince was already grieving for his brother, like he was dead...but Robbie was alive. One moment Prince Avery was calm, the next he was sad and angry. It was scary seeing him like this but also pained him. "I'm going out. See you later." Now that wasnt a good idea. Not when he was like this However, Aspen held back on following him just for a second. He had to find his thoughts and his mind, recollect himself. Once he did, he hurried to follow the prince's trail. He caught up but walked quite a bit of distance away. He didnt let the prince know he was following him quite yet. He was curious to what he was doing. They ended up at the cliffs. Prince Avery stripped off his dress shirt. "Dont do anything stupid, Avery," Aspen spoke up, crossing his arms and biting his bottom lip. He didnt want the prince to cliff-dive in the state that he was in. So much could go wrong. |

"Shut up," Avery muttered, watching as the waves slapped against the cliffs. In the back of his mind, he knew that is wasn't a good day to go cliff diving. The little beach would be flooded, and the waves were much too rough to safely land. He shifted, steadying himself, biting his lip, and gauging how bad he'd hurt himself if he jumped.
"It's not too bad," he told himself, wincing as he watched a particularly large wave smash a branch against the cliffs, and his brow furrowed. "Robbie would have jumped. He wasn't a chicken. I can do it," Avery whispered, taking another step towards the edge of the cliffs. |

Aspen had never went cliff-diving before but he didnt think it was a good day for that. It was windy which meant the waves would be stronger. Not to mention he highly doubted that Prince Avery was going to cliff-dive just because he wanted to. It had to be more than that. He raised an eyebrow at the prince's 'shut up' but did what he was told. He watched him, a look of concern showing on his face as he heard the sound of a branch snapping against the cliff. It wasnt safe. "Please dont," He begged the prince. The prince took a step toward the edge of the cliff, saying something about how his brother would have jumped. Feeling his heart leap in his chest, he reached and grabbed the prince's hand. He gently pulled at it but didnt give enough force to pull him away from the edge. "Dont do this," He told him,"It's not safe. Do you think Robbie would want you getting hurt? Do you really think your brother wants you to put yourself in danger? Even he wouldnt jump on a day like today." |

Avery thought for a second, imagining his brother and best friend there, and his shoulders fell. Aspen was right. Even Emily would have told him that is was a bad day to cliff jump. He imagined her red hair falling into her eyes, a look of concern on her face, saying that the waves were too high, and that maybe tomorrow they could jump. Robbie would have made a big deal about how he would've jumped, but he didn't want to jump alone. Avery slowly stepped backwards, picking up his shirt. His face was a picture of pain, and his breathing was slow. "Fine. Whatever." Avery flinched as a raindrop his his bare shoulder, and glanced up, realizing that a storm was rolling in. He turned, and started to make his way back to the manor. "Oh, Em," he whispered. "Why couldn't you still be here? I need you." His voice broke, and he leaned against the side of the house, burying his face in his arms. |
