"Ada is decivingly convincing. She's seven years old and she already knows how to blackmail." Nev said as they continued walked toward the base. Mel managed a small chuckle, "Kie's rubbing off on her." Nev chuckled as well, leaning in to kiss Mel's cheek, "Want to get some coffee before we go back?" Mel shook her head, "No. We need to get back." Nev pulled away to look at her fully, his brow creasing in concern, "No coffee? Are you sick? Because the Mel I know would never turn down coffee. Ever." A teasing smirk appeared on his lips, one that seemed to become less annoying and more endearing as time went on. She was spending way too much time with him. "I'm fine. You said it yourself, we have work to do." The two walked back to the base in silence. Mel scanned their surroundings as they approached one of the entrances. It looked like a normal wall from afar, no door in sight. Nev pressed on a specific spot of the building wall, a small control panel appearing. He placed his hand against the scanner, and the light turned green, a small part of the wall sliding away to reveal the inside of the warehouse. The Black Rose Resistance had been in operation for nearly five years. They had plenty of time to renovate their establishment. Mel followed him inside, making sure the door slid shut behind them as she followed him back to the commons room. They walked in together, seeing the familiar image of the team inside. Rhea was conversing with Finn, Raz was sprawled on the couch, watching TV with Ada. Kie was in the back, sifting through the contents of the refrigerator. Ada immediately perked up as she seen them enter, smiling enthusiasticly at them. Raz looked up as well. "Where have you two been?" Johanna watched the strangers turn a corner into what appeared to be another dead end. She quickened her pace, but when she got there they were gone. "Brawlers and barbarians! How did they just vanish?" She stomped over to the back wall and glared at it furiously. She scanned for hand and footholds but there was no way they scaled it. Son of a sohren. Malachi came up beside her. "Maybe they have shifting tech too. For all we know they could be worlds away." He shrugged. Worlds. He never answered my question. Johanna examined her surroundings. Where are we? Johanna walked the length of the wall, looking for weaknesses. She stopped at a spot and pulled something out of her pocket. A gift from Mal. She tapped a button on the top and it grew into a giant war hammer. She grinned and bounce the weight in her hands. Malachi saw her and tried to protest but it was to late. She took a swing at the wall, denting the bricks. Another swing and more of them cracked. By that time, Malachi had run over to her and before she could take another swing, tapped the button to shrink it. "We are NOT knocking down walls in New York City! Are you trying to get caught?" He took the tiny hammer and shoved it in his pocket. Johanna shoved him. "I'm trying to..." she thought for a minute about what to put there. "None of your business! That's what!" Malachi sighed. "Well I think I've found a way into 'none of your business'." He pointed to a brick. "My anomaly detector showed weird readings on this area. I think there might be a secret pass-" Malachi stopped and slumped to the ground. Johanna looked around and reached for her sword but before she could grab it, there was a gag on her mouth and she drifted to sleep.

It had been only moments before the alarms went off. The base had been set with a multitude of security systems. Security cameras, motion sensors, even thermal cameras. It was nearly impossible to penetrate. The reckless banging had been a dead giveaway as well. Gray gave Mel and Nev the rundown on the way to the interrogation room. The same two strangers from earlier had been spotted attempting to break into the base. Leave it to Gray to figure out that it was Mel and Nev who had confronted them. Mel knew Gray was pissed. Gray was always pissed, but more so that usual. His shoulders were tight, his eyes hard and cold beneath his mask. She had only ever seen him once without it, and she didn’t like to think about it. It brought up too many emotions that she didn't want to unwrap. Mel and Nev were silent on the walk. Valentine was likely already there, Ciro as well. From what Gray had told them, Valentine had wanted them there for the interrogation for any possible information they might have. The solid metal door opened on quiet hinges, leading into a dimly lit room. No windows, no possible escapes except the door that locked automatically behind them. Valentine and Ciro were waiting, as Mel expected. Both of their faces were grim as they looked at the two unconscious figures. The two were slumped in chairs that were bolted to the floor, their wrists and ankles restrained by metal cuffs that attached to the chairs. They both had gags in their mouths and blindfolds over their eyes. Mel was reminded of a time from long ago, when she had been in a much similar situation. It had worked out a lot better for her. She could tell by looking at them that they had been searched, their weapons and gadgets gone, including the girl's sword. There was a moment of tense silence before Valentine spoke. "You encountered these two?" Nev nodded, "Yes. We found them in an alley. They're behavior was unusual but not overly concerning. We left before things escalated." "And you didn't think to cover your tracks? Take a different path? You bloody idiots led them right too us!" Gray's voice thundered through the room, his thick British accent harsh in the small room. He leveled his gaze on Mel. "I taught you better than that." Mel couldn't help but flinch at his tone. Her cheeks heated with shame and she lowered her eyes to the ground. She hadn't experienced anything more bone-chilling than seeing Gray angry. Or better yet, being the target of his anger. Valentine gave Gray a warning look, Ciro still standing quietly. Gray huffed but backed down, his eyes still blazing with anger. Training tomorrow was going to be so fun. Valentine spoke again, hie voice even, but Mel could sense the underlying anger. "They should wake up soon. You two need to stay until we're done and verify their statements and anything else you heard or observed. We'll discuss punishment later." Mel and Nev only nodded. Mel glanced quickly at Nev before looking back at the strangers. They had royally messed up. Edited at May 20, 2025 12:17 PM by _Moonshadow_

Johanna woke up in the dark. She felt the scratchy cloth over her eyes and mouth. She was still a little groggy from the drug, but in an instant her senses came back and threw herself against her restraints. She could here voices in the room, but she was to angry to listen to what they was saying. Johanna thrashed in her chair for a while before realizing it was useless. Johanna tried to figure out what she could. Her wrists were strapped down with metal cuffs. The chair was stuck to the floor because it didn't move when she thrashed. She didn't have any weapons on her. Even her secret knife was gone. Son of a b---h. She could hear Phoebe scolding her. Johanna wondered if Malachi was receiving the same treatment. He wouldn't struggle anyways. Mal would sit perfectly still like a good little prisoner. Jo started thrashing around again until she decidedly struggled in her restraints enough for him too. Goshdangit. She would have to wait until their captors let them go. That made her angry. She had a hair in her face. That made her angrier. Johanna wanted to thrash in her bindings until she broke them or her wrists. But, resigned to her fate, (or once her wrists started hurting) she sat still, waiting for someone to turn the gosh dang light back on. Edited at May 20, 2025 03:21 PM by Spring Rain

The group descended into silence as the girl began thrashing in her restraints. Under different circumstances, Mel would have laughed at the sight. She could tell the boy was awake, his form not as slumped anymore, but he had sense enough to keep still. Valentine watched with a unimpressed expression, almost like he was waiting for a child to finish throwing a tantrum. When the girl finally stopped thrashing, Valentine spoke, his voice cool and even. "Would you like us to knock you out again? I can assure you it would be much more pleasant than watching your struggle. Now if you'll agree to quit acting rashly, I can remove your blindfolds." Mel and Nev stood in silence, choosing to stay that way until they were needed. Until them, Mel cataloged every movement and interaction happening in the room. (Really short but there's not much else i can do)

Johanna was furious. How dare this guy kidnap her and knock her out and then ask her a question when he knew she could respond. But she wanted to see and again so she just nodded. I'm going to kill everyone for this. She was not acting rashly! What would he do if he was blind and hog-tied to a chair? Johanna would like to see that. In fact, she would like tie him up herself. This guy better get these stupid clamps off my wrists or when I get out I will clamp his neck in one. (Yea not much)

Mel watched as Valentine nodded at Gray, who moved forward to remove both of their blindfolds. He tugged down their gags, but Mel knew that none of them would hesitate to knock them out again if either of them caused trouble. Mel could still see Gray's barely restrained anger as he took a step back to look at them. While Valentine was the Chief, Gray usually carried out any of the few interrogations. Gray crossed his arms over his chest, his expression hidden behind his mask. "Would you like to explain why you imbeciles were trying to break down a wall, or why you were following two of our own?" His tone alone was enough to send a shiver through Mel. Valentine and Ciro watched in silence, before Valentine leaned closer to the general. His words were hushed, but Mel could make them out. "We've got this covered. Make sure the premises is secure, and lock down the base. We need to lay low until this situation is resolved." Ciro left with a brief nod, the door unlocking with the same sort of panel as the entrance before locking behind him. Mel turned her attention back to the interrogation going on in front of her.

Finally, someone pulled the blindfold off Jo's head. First thing she saw was Malachi cuffed to a chair, same as her. Second was a very angry looking man standing in front of her with his arms crossed. He asked her a couple questions in a very rude and demanding tone that Johanna didn't like. Johanna scowled. "We're not telling you anything! Let us go and give me back my sword!" Malachi hissed in frustration but countered, "Shouldnt those questions be asked in reverse order? 'why were you following them? and why were you trying g to know down the wall?' that's the order we did it anyway. Shouldn't that be the order of the questions?" Malachi always had a way to disarm whoever they had antagonized. Or rather, whoever Johanna had antagonized. He would say things in a confusing riddle-like language or ask useless questions to distract their captors. Where Johanna was all fight, Malachi was just a voice.

Mel barely contained her cringe. Nobody talked to Gray like that and walked out without a missing limb. She felt Nev's tense presence beside her, and knew he was feeling exactly what she was. Shame, regret, and anger. Well, the anger was debatable. Nev had always been slow to anger, very much unlike Mel. She could see Gray tense, barely contained fury rolling off of him. She knew Valentine seen it too, but he didn't move in to stop him. Gray's voice was low and dangerous as he spoke, "You're not exactly in a position to be making demands, brat. Your sword and other weapons have all been confiscated and won't be returned to you until we deem fit, if at all. So I believe it is in your best interest to talk, unless you'd like to watch your sword burn. We also found an interesting little gadget on the smartass that is currently being inspected by our explosives operator, and I'm sure she's already cracked the code on it by now." He spoke with a pointed glance at the boy, who looked a few second away from passing out. It was obvious that the girl did the fighting. "So. If you have any interest in walking out of here alive, or walking again at all, I suggest you start talking. Or else you leave me no choice but to turn to physical altercations, which I would be very pleased to carry out."

Johanna stared at the man. She blinked several times trying to process his words. What in the worlds is he talking about? Johanna knew she wasn't the most literate person in the worlds, but she thought she could keep up with most conversations. All she heard was sword and burn in the same sentence and it made her want to burn his head. She wasn't sure if it could burn considering it was magic, but she didn't want to take that chance. Jo was about to mouth off another retort but she caught a look from Malachi suggesting she shouldn't. There were a total of three people who could tell her not to do something and one of them was him. That didn't mean she had to be nice. "Alright fine jeez no need to be so grumpy. But just so you know, she started it by pointing a gun at me. No one does that and walks away unharmed. Malachi had nothing to do with this he just follows me around." She could have stopped there but she had to add, "And I'm curious, what exactly do you think Mal's watch does?" Johanna seriously doubted these guys knew what they was in for.
