As she waited for her flight, she sat down on the small bench outside the gate, placing her small cabin bag beside her. Penny was heading to the ski resort for the holidays, something she had never done before. She knew Talise's family owned the resort, and she was lucky enough that her parents had connections to them as well. Plenty of time to practice her skating for a good few months. Penny kept looking up from her phone to the screen, checking to see if her flight was boarding. No luck yet.
"I'm about to get on the plane, see you in an hour," she texted her mother, quickly putting her phone back into her pocket and patiently waiting. Her phone quickly pinged about a minute later, with her mother excited for her arrival. She just chuckled at the response. She always had a very good relationship with her mother. It was a bit different with her father, as they were similar in personalities and always clashed with each other. It always seemed to be a professional relationship they had with each other due to Penny being so good at her skating. He acted like her manager and sorted out a lot of her competitions for her.
After another 10 minutes, her ears pricked as they yelled out her seat and she swiftly picked up her cabin bag and walked towards the gate. Penny showed they her passport and boarding pass and she began to walk onto the plane. Luckily, everything went smoothly as it normally does when boarding a flight. She never had any problems, especially when the flight was only an hour from where she was staying for a while. Penny was excited to practice with Talise as well, her new found best friend. She really liked Talise, and could appreciate her excitement for skating. It was something that was her passion and Talise also enjoyed it. She wasn't sure if she would be as serious as Penny, but it was nice to have someone to enjoy it with.
Penny quietly sat in her seat, putting her earphones in and choosing a simple playlist to drown out her thoughts. The world she was leaving behind for a couple of months slowly faded away into the clouds as the plane set off to its destination. She rested her head against the cold window of the plane and closed her eyes.
There was an annoying child on the flight, but other than that, it was fairly smooth. A quick hour later, the plane touched down in Washington. Penny had never visited before, so she was looking forward to all the touristy aspects of her stay as well. She grabbed her cabin bag and made her way off the plane. Penny yawned tiredly, pushing her earphones back into her pocket so she could be more alert. After grabbing her main case from the belt, she made way for the exit. There was nobody waiting for her, like she expected, so she walked towards the taxi rank, hauling her case into the trunk of the taxi and they began to drive toward the ski resort.
Penny felt an overwhelming feeling of excitement wash over her as they got closer to the resort. She couldn't wait to get into that rink and do whatever her heart desired. Talise had talked about her older brother, Soren and how she thought that Penny and him would hate each other. Penny wasn't too sure about that and would be happy to meet him. Talise described him as quite blunt and sometimes rude, but Penny found that attractive and she was eager to see him.
Eventually, after a quick taxi trip, they arrived at the ski resort. Her mother was waiting at the entrance with a beaming smile. Penny grinned and jumped out the taxi, grabbing her belongings and paying the driver before making her way up the steps to greet her mother.
"Mom!" She exclaimed, giving her a hug. Her mother chuckled, returning the hug before letting go. "Come on, let's go inside and meet everyone," she said, guiding Penny inside the beautiful resort. It was something she had never seen before. It was so expensive looking and bougie, Penny didn't know where to start looking. Until she saw the owners of the resort staring at her. Penny quickly cleared her throat and smiled at them individually. She could see Talise, as well as her annoying brother Soren she mentioned. God he was a beautiful man. The way blonde hair framed his face perfectly was a masterpiece. Penny smiled softly at Talise, giving her a quick wave, before turning to the rest of the family. She wasn't sure why there was such a formality, but she didn't mind it. Penny felt like a little celebrity.
"Hi, my name is Penelope. But you can call me Penny. It's nice to meet you all," she said kindly.
