Here comes a thought
" You're a terrible friend!"
" Or maybe I just don't need people like you around me!!"
After that thought, Yoko came to the conclusion that maybe returning to the dorms was a bad mistake. What if he faced the same issues from last semester. His mind was such a mess that he bumped into a hard body, quickly reacting by steadying himself on the ground; his neck snapped toward the figure...
" Hyena...." The tone of Yoko's voice wasn't that of a surprise, but a sad one as though he didn't want to catch this woman in the wild. But he knew she would be back.
" Oh...it's you Tem." Her tone was that of disgust, maybe a hint of confusion. Yoko was terrible at reading people, and even worse at reading Hyena.
Some would remember Hyena as a wild child, someone who was the black sheep of her family. With her long black hair covering her ocean blue eyes; she seemed normal..maybe even medicated this time. The woman noticed Yoko’s forced smile and took a deep breathe in,” Look-”
“ Are you still mad?” The question slipped out too fast, too unpolished. Yoko winced at himself. He always did this, jumped the cliff before checking how deep the water was.
Hyena blinked,” You disappeared for three months…”
“ I didn’t disappear,” he muttered, adjusting the strap of his bag though it wasn’t slipping. “ I just needed space…”
“ You blocked me.”
He opened his mouth to defend himself, she wasn't understanding and that made Yoko jaw clench. But he closed it, and looked past her shoulder. Finally finding the right, or so he thought, was the right thing to say,” I was going to unblock you.” He added tenderly, grabbing out his phone to do so;
Hyena let out a loud cackle, a cruel one at that.
“ That’s not how friendships work, tem.”
Hearing her call him Tem, hurt for some reason. This time it stung like a bee,” I…uh know. I was…busy.” He winced again at the blatant lie.
The silence between them was loud, her lanky posture seemed to lean forward, maybe she was going for a hug? Reaching his arms outward, Yoko prepared to be forgiven, but Hyena just walked right past him. It was embarrassing having your arms out in front of you like a weirdo. Hyena didn’t even look back, she just kept walking until she vanished within the study hall.
“ Right…see you later.” Yoko whispered to himself as his arms dropped beside him.
Suddenly as Yoko began his way to the dorms, a screaming noise clouded his ears. A shiver crawled onto his shoulder,” Not…him.”
“ Yoko!!”
Yoko didn’t react. He kept walking, although his speed and pace quickened.
“ Yoko!!”
Shit. No escape, stopping between two doors, Yoko turned his head to notice a blond, brown eyed man coming his way,” Can you be more loud.” Yoko sneered.
Devin. The other friend. He seemed more outgoing and uncontrolled then Hyena. Yoko wondered how he even was friends with this one; “ You seem stressed already, I heard Hyena came back also.” Devin walked up to the man and smiled, helping to keep the doors open as Yoko stepped through.
“ Have you ever thought about minding your business?”
“ Constantly.” Devin said with a shrug,” Then I remember I don’t care.”
And that the problem Yoko had with Devin, he didn’t care. About grades. About drama. About the consequences. He floated through the semester like they were optional side quests. Somehow acing exams without studying too much. Showing up late and leaving early. Everyone nearly hated him.
The damned bastard. Yoko hated how much he admired this fool.
“ You’re late by the way.” Devin added casually.
Yoko’s jaw tightened,” I know.”
“ New roommates are already texting the group chat, asking who’s your roommate.”
Yoko blinked,” There’s a group chat?” He retrieved his phone from his bag and scrolled on it.
“ Yeah I made it.” Devin shrugged.
“ Why would you-”
“ So I can monitor potential threats,” Devin's eyes got dark for a second as he stared into Yoko’s,” Everyone knows you’re mentally unstable, I like to keep tabs on you.” He said deadpan.
Shooting him a look, Yoko was lost at words. Did everyone think that about him, was he mentally unfit to bond with people? Frowning they kept walking until they reached Yoko’s new dorm room,” Well pray for whoever gets to room with me, hopefully they are neat.” He waved bye to Devin, glad their parting was quick and easy. Stepping in the room he threw his bag on a bed and sat down, leaning his head back until his back hit the bed.
