I stood up and made my way deeper into the cave. If it wasn’t on our land then the kingdom would have already mined the whole thing. They don’t even know the cave exists though, it leads from the kingdom sewers to our land. I don’t know how or why, but it does. It is how I get in and out of the kingdom, but James didn’t ever go past the area lit with lichen. I never told him about the tunnel, but I probably should invase he ever needs to escape.
I let out a sigh as I came to the underwater pools, they were fed but springs so it was always warmer down here. I quickly made my way past wanting to get hurt by the heat.
Not many things were ever down here other than bats, the occasional animal trying to die in peace. Other than that, there was nothing other than me.
I came to the fork that led to the kingdom and the one that led off towards the plains that are covered in snow. With a sigh I headed towards the kingdom, I wanted to go under the colosseum. I made my way down the winding tunnels and eventually the floor became stone bricks. Dry blood was on the ground going down into the cave, runoff from the fights. When I got closer I heard fighting, it must be Friday; meaning the executions and tests of strength are today.
Thankfully I was tall enough to just see in after climbing the rocks a bit. The wall was jagged but my animal-like legs made me able to climb it.
When I peaked in I saw a fight, the usual human against human. One had unusual strength and was thrown across the colosseum and landed on the bars I was staring through. Mid-scream the guys head was cut off after he saw my eyes. His killer didn’t see me and thought the scream was because of him. The crowd cheered and the dead man was dragged away. Soon enough the crowd started to chant, calling for the “champion killer” I was intrigued. Once they stepped out though, my eyes went wide.
The champion killer that stepped out was a nightstalker, a full-grown, full fledged, adult, male, nightstalker. I stared but his eyes never fell on me, I was almost glad they didn’t. My mother was the only full grown nightstalker I had met, even then, she wasn’t as big. He was built, he was clearly a perfect example of a full grown adult male nightstalker. If I even tried to face him I would probably get pummeled and defeated with ease.
Soon enough I realized the one proving his strength was shaking. But it didn’t take long to hear the rules announced
“The rules are simple, the champion-killer will kill its challenger if it wins but the Champion is only allowed to pin the champion killer on it’s back.” The king said
I let out a low growl, angered. They were calling him an “it”. He must have heard it though, because his head turned in my direction but I ducked. He looked around almost confused for a second before focusing back on the fight.
Soon enough it began, the fighting was brutal and the champion was doing well, the male was definitely a fighter though, he was fast and strong enough to pick up the champion in full armor. I knew this because the dude did it straight at the drain I was in and when he went to pick the dude up we locked eyes. I couldn’t see any markings to identify him, normally you would see them, because even hybrids like me have them. His eyes went wide though, probably because he picked up on the fact I was a hybrid due to my one natural brown eye and the one glowing eye. “Well hello there,” he said with a growling smile, almost excited and not in a creepy way. He had a bloodlust though so there was a bit of aggression in it, not directed at me.
He turned back down and ripped the guys head off clearly not wanting to toy with him anymore. I jumped down from my spot and bolted realizing what he was doing. Soon enough I head a rip from the ground, knowing it was that gutter. I heard the thud behind me and I did my best to try and not be caught and attempted to dodge. I made it to the entrance that led to the cabin but not any farther before I was tackled and pinned against the snow.
There was nothing I could do so I just froze, I was scared, it had been a while since I had actually felt this scared. I let out a small whimper, a symbol of not wanting to fight but also a sign I acknowledged him as being better than me.
He froze and I finally saw a glimpse of his markings, I stared trying to remember where I recognized them from. I couldn’t remember if he was family or an old friend.

I could hear the rumble of the arena, the crowd chanting the name I was known for, no one knew my original name here.
The chant was exhilarating, I could feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins. I could feel my devilish smile creeping onto my face as I slowly walked out as the gate raised. The champion looked terrified, it only made me eager. Once the e rules were announced like always I heard a growl, one that sounded of my own kind. I turned to that direction but did t see anything but the drain. I turned back to my opponent who tried to catch me off guard but his balance was off so I just toyed with him. His fear made his attacks sloppy and not calculated.
I started to throw him around and I managed to throw him across the arena and Neal t to the drain where I was met with a pair of eyes. One I thought I recognized and one that would be near impossible to recreate. I felt a smile creep onto my face, I was excited to see another like me.
I killed the champion and they disappeared sounding like they had to jump down a bit. Which was an understatement there were spikes that they had to climb to get to the top.
Using my brute strength I ripped up the drain and chased them, I could see their figure that well in the cave. They were dodging and weaving like they knew the cave like there back of their hand. They made the mistake of going into the snow though, I could see their figure clearly and was able to tackle them.
It was a female hybrid, she submitted quickly once she was pinned. Once I saw her markings my eyes went wide though, a flood of memories came back.
“Ender..?” I mumbled and she stared me dead in the eyes.
