| Eternity, There are some things that I just don't expect my parents to get anymore, like for example I need to take meds for a condition I have, right? I've explained to them the gist of both how my meds and my condition work, and they STILL get it wrong even after checking with my psychiatrist to clear up doubts I've learnt to kinda slide my expectations down on that type of thing It doesn't mean one should be a doormat, but I know when to pick my battles |

My mom is almost 70 and she's more open minded than my dad who's 50-something Earlier some people were joking about showing your parents a man in a dress, and the first thing I thought of was of Freddie Mercury in "I want to break free" Could unironically be an actual argument, "are you saying my close personal friend Freddie Mercury is a WOMAN? You're crazy" |

| Eternity, I get your logic, and those are all facts, but the reality is that a lot of older people won't understand your reasoning I've given up on a lot of those battles with my own parents, sometimes it's less about making them understand and more about making them respect it You have to work with "their logic", not against it I guess I don't know if this is helpful, sorry |

| and sometimes its not personal preference because what we're arguing(?) about is that my trans boyfriend wears dresses to formal events which im pretty sure is because hes not allowed to get masculine formalwear |
