| Well- If you use elimination, then to eliminate the x, you just add the first equation -5x-y=8, to the second equation, 5x-3y=16, this can be done because the coefficients of x are opposites -5 and 5 so they cancel out. That gets you with -4y=24 meaning y=-6. Then, to get x, you just plug those variables in. I used the second equation. So it'd be 5x-3(-6)=16. So 5x+18=16. Subtract 18 from sixteen, get -2. -2 divided by 5 is -2/5ths. OvO |
