Explanation Quicksand can form anywhere, including in the tundra, if the right conditions are present. The tundra has a thin layer of thawed soil in the summer, and the soil is often low in nutrients. Quicksand is denser than the human body, so people and animals can get stuck in it. However, they don't get sucked down to the bottom because their torso is buoyant enough to stay afloat. |
