Balto isn't just your average brute. For one, he suffers from dissociative amnesia, and thus usually goes by the alias 'Bolt'. How did he develop this disorder, you ask? Well you see, that is a very long and tragic story. Oh, you have time and you wish to know? In that case, I suppose I could tell you. But don't blame me if you regret wanting to know when I'm done.
When he was a mere pup, Balto was taken from his family, kidnapped by men in green coats. He was stuck in a tiny cage for days on end, only seeing the light when someone opened the door to throw him some scraps of rotten food. He wasn't let out for nearly two weeks, when he was sent off with a man who smelled of alcohol and blood. It didn't take long for him to find out why: the man was a 'professional' dog fighter. He beat and tortured Balto for months, trying to toughen him up and train him to be a fighter, even though he was a mere pup. When he messed up even a little, the man would take away his food for the rest of the day.
Then came the day when Balto was thrown into the Pit. He was still a pup, but being a wolf, he was far larger than other dogs his age. Not winning the match that day was his first big mistake. He would have died, had it not been for his master, who considered him too valuable to kill off so soon. So he was forced to live out the next year like that: suffering through abuse and killing innocent dogs for human entertainment. He won most of his fights after that first one; he couldn't afford to lose. But on the other hand, what did he gain by winning?
On one particularly vicious battle, Balto lost sight in his right eye, his opponent having damaged it beyond repair. His master was furious. He was going to kill him when police discovered the illegal dog fighting and invaded the Pit, giving Balto an opportunity to escape. The traumatic experience left him with dissociative amnesia, and thus he refuses to remember any of it.
Balto spent nearly two years in hell, and he doesn't even know it.

Balto's frown merely deepened. "Uh huh, suuure. And I'm actually a human in a wolf skin," he muttered harshly, accompanied by an eye roll. Separated, schmeparated. He may not have been there, but he knew enough about wolves to know that was a load of bull. But what did it matter? From the vibe Polvski was giving off, he probably didn't care all that much whether or not he found these so-called 'partners'. It almost reminded Balto of back when he was a pup, when he always hung out with a group of juveniles who only kept him around for 'target practice'. They had thrown him in a river in the middle of winter as a 'joke'. It wasn't very funny, at least in Balto's honest opinion, and he never saw them after that. And frankly, he didn't care if he ever saw them again. Was that how Polvski felt? It must be.
Special Skills
Balto was... special. He wasn't like other wolves. He was classy, sassy, and badass-y. He could walk the walk and talk the talk, and he could drive anyone insane with how much he spoke. But there was another side of him few ever saw, represented only by the slash marks over his dead eye. Though he was a gentle wolf by nature, he could hold his own in a fight. And, when fighting for a cause, he could completely destroy his opponent, both verbally and physically.
As Balto trotted towards the river, he kept his one good eye out for potential friends - and, more importantly, foes. His large ears flicked back and forth, alert for any signs of danger. He had come to rely on his audits, as they had adapted to make up for his blind side. Anyways, while he headed towards the sound of running water, he pondered over who he would stumble upon today. Maybe a damsel in distress? Or food? Yes, food would be nice. He just hoped he didn't accidentally cross paths with a hunter.
