Opal's Story
Opal was destined for greatness. Daughter of the alphas, she was trained for leadership as soon as she could stand on her own. She had everything a she-wolf could want; beauty, grace, talent, power. Every male wanted her, every female wanted to be her. She would grow to be an alpha who would one day make her pack very proud.
Raised during a time of bountiful prey and fair weather, Opal had never known hardship. Sure, her training was difficult and the highest of expectations were set on her, but with her skill set and level head she had no issue keeping up.
There was just one problem for Opal, and his name was Onyx. A muscular, jet black male she was raised with who was the son of the betas; and her future mate. Their bonding had been arranged by their parents just days after they were born. Knowing it to be her duty, Opal agreed to be his mate. But she did not love him.
Years later, as young adults, Opal and Onyx took their places as the pack's new alphas. By now, they had gotten to know each other quite well. Opal was even happy to be his mate. He was strong, handsome, intelligent. It was everything she could ever want for the father of her future pups. Maybe he had a bit of a temper, but he loved her. He told her so often. What more could a girl want?
Usually he was kind, but one day the unforgivable happened. Opal, pregnant with her first litter, was struck by Onyx. Injured and frightened, she fled from him. In her weakened state, she couldn't take him and she couldn't run far. And so she hid in an abandoned burrow a few miles outside of their territory. For days she stayed there, too weak and afraid to move. After about a week, her bore her pups, all stillborn, and she wept. Unable to stay in her burrow any longer, she returned to her pack and her mate.
Onyx was furious. How dare she run from him? How dare she cause the death of their pups? His rampage seemed to last forever. Their pack, fearing his tyranny, broke apart and abandoned their home, leaving Opal and Onyx alone. This only infuriated him further, and he did the only thing he knew how to do. He took his anger out on Opal. Now fearing for her life, Opal fled again. She ran and ran until her legs refused to carry her any farther. She lay still on the ground, starved and too weak to even cry for help. Slowly she shut her eyes, accepting her fate, and slept. But this was not to be Opal's demise as she had thought...
