Midnight Skies looked around her nest. Cobra, a male wolf from the pack, Howling on the Cliff, kept asking her to become friends. Maybe even mates, she knew that was what he was implying. He just wasn't to her liking. Maybe, if he could show more of his true nature, she could consider. Her pack wanted her to pick a mate, but none of the males were to her liking. "Cobra is coming again!", her mother, Starry Moon, told her. Midnight Skies sighed to herself and got up. Here he was again, Cobra, to try to entice her. She received him due to courtesy, but not much more. When Midnight Skies got there, she found Cobra staring into the distance not even looking at her, with a cold aura coming from him. "Giving up at last?" Midnight Skies thought. "Came again?" She asked. Once Starry Moon left, she continued. "For the last time?" She didn't let her voice get hopeful. Cobra continued to ignore her, not even making eye contact. For some reason, Midnight Skies preferred this version. Midnight Skies realized that they were more alike than she thought. "Maybe." Cobra growled. This wasn't like him. He always was nice to her trying to entice her. What had changed? Was this his real self? "No one has ever liked me." He said quietly, almost to himself. "My sister had higher talent. My parents always favored her. They... I overheard them talking about who to pawn me off to." Cobra paused. Midnight Skies could almost hear him judging her reaction. She gave him none. "When I reached adulthood, most wolves ignored me, but I stayed within the pack. Until the Alpha of pack Howling on the Cliff came and invited me to join her pack. When I joined she made me Alpha male. She gave me a purpose. But I never told anyone about my past until you. I've always been afraid of what they would think." Cobra ended. Midnight Skies took a minute to make a decision. He was revealing his true self to her before anyone else. She could feel that they were more alike than she thought. Would it be worth it to join his pack Howling on the Cliff just to be with him? Even though she always hated the pack? Love is stronger than hate. Her mother's mantra floated through her mind. Always follow your heart, her father's mantra floated through. Henry was her father, and he was from another pack, Midnight Skies had only met him once. "I'll take you if you still want." Midnight Skies said. "I will." Cobra declared. As they went to tell their packs, Midnight Skies could tell their lives would never be the same again. Years later, Cobra was growing older, and his sparkle was leaving him. "Cobes." Midnight Skies says, softly. "Mid..." Cobra whispers back. Midnight Skies knew it was time to put Cobra's status as Elder, and his eldest son, Python, took the place of Alpha male, and Taipan, the youngest son of Cobra, took Beta male.
