German has two types of speach; formal and unformal.
To anyone older than you or a stranger your always say sie.
Könnten sie mir sagen wo der nähste Bahnhoff ist?

And the unformal is for freinds and family and anyone obviously younger than yourself, this one is Du.
Köntest du mir sagen for der nähste Bahnhoff ist?

Then there's the der, die, das.
Der is masculine (male things and male sounding words) and used for stuff like: Der Mann, Der Junge, Der Hund.

Das is neutral and and used for anything that isn't feminine, masculine or plural, such as: Das Mädchen (Girl/Mädchen is das because its plural is spelled the same as its singular) Das Leben, Das Gewebe.
Die (Dee) is plural and feminine, example: Die Frau, die Mädchen (plural) die Katze.
