Alright small children, listen up -
So, in winter term I ride for athletics during school. So, my friends and I jogged on over the some half mile uphill to the barn, tacked up, etc. I was riding a large gelding named Prague. Note: Prague is headstrong, willful, and extremely aggressive towards other horses. So, we all hop on, start warming up in one of the outdoor rings while the less experienced group did their own thing in another outdoor ring. It was a really demanding lesson, physically and mentally (to anyone who doesn't believe riding is exhausting, I can tell you that it does indeed require quite a bit of muscle strength).
There was enough time to jump a bit, so a few horses popped over some training fences, nothing over 2' 6"while the rest of us cantered around, doing our own thing. I slowed so I could take my turn at a training fence, when one horse comes barreling towards me, bucking all the way. Mind you, we are all quite experienced, so it wasn't a problem of the rider staying on the horse, but the fact that the horse was completely out of control (he had spooked at something). This was neither the horse, trainer's, nor rider's fault. Anyway - the horse smacked right into my horse's flank, and my gelding kicked at the horse that ran into him.
This isn't a huge deal, although I was quite worried about my horse going after another with teeth and hoof. Then, the horse that was behind the horse that ran into me completely spooked (herd mentality), and began charging at my horse as well. My horse freaked out, bolted a few steps, backed up, then threw a temper tantrum involving bucking. The horse that had panicked flew by us at a gallop, whirled, dumped his rider, then bolted out of the pen, running into the other ring where he spooked the horses there (and another rider fell off), and galloped back into our ring. As my trainer corralled him, I had managed to calm my horse to the point by which I could dismount.
That was my day! (Everyone was fine, by the way, nor was this anyone's fault - just bad luck)
