It's kinda strange to me how you guys in America can just kinda... drive fairly easily through several states in a few hours >.>

I used to live on the border so I could come and go really easily but now I have to drive a long way just to get to the neighbouring state >.<
the states and territories over here are really big compared to yours, like uh... google says Alaska (I think is the US' biggest state) is 1.718 million square km and Western Australia (Australia's biggest state) is 2.646 million square km

the only really small thing is the ACT, followed by Tasmania which is way bigger than the ACT aha

“Do not fear us” the voice said as the Masked Men took another boy. He looked thirteen, younger than most. With every person they took I asked myself if they would come back. There were hundreds of us in here. Children, teens, anyone younger than eighteen had been rounded up by the Masked Men to be tested. Most children don’t make it to ten anymore. Young blood attracts the beasts.
They’re testing us for something, I don’t know what it is, I don’t really want to know, but I’m here. There’s no escape.
We’ve been sitting on the floor here for hours, dressed in plain grey suits, waiting for our turn. Waiting to be taken and tested; most of us come back, but some don’t. My turn’s coming soon, there’s just five kids ahead of me.
“We only want to protect you” the voice droned on as they led the boy through the doors.
I don’t know what to hope for. Maybe they’re killing those with the positive tests, maybe those with negative. Maybe those who are negative are sent back and killed while the others, the ones that don’t return, are sent back home. I really don’t know. I wish I did, then maybe I would know what to do.
“Since the Downfall, we’ve been working hard on rebuilding and making this a safer world for all of us” its been hours, maybe even days since we were all taken. The voice had repeated itself so much I could recite the words myself. I’ve been too nervous to fall asleep, too scared that I’ll close my eyes and never wake. I doubt that’ll happen, but still. Its scary here, in this bland grey hall with hundreds of teens all dressed in the same grey suit with this emotionless robotic voice echoing around the hall every minute or so; not to mention the Masked Men. I’ve never seen a Masked Man’s face. Never. They don’t seem to even take them off when they sleep. We have guards all around us, so we don’t run. They’re not carrying any weapons, but there’s something about their grey and white suits, something about the way they just stand there, as if made of stone. Not once have I seen them change posts. It’s been the same Masked Men since I arrived here.
“With your help we’ll be able to protect the whole world” the voice continued. The speech was about an hour long, they could have shortened it, taken away the hundreds of pauses between each sentence, but they didn’t.
How could a bunch of teens even help protect the world? Unless you were a Masked Man learning and knowing any form of fighting was forbidden. To keep the peace. It also forced the people to rely on the Masked Men to protect them from the beasts, else they’d die and human kind would go extinct. Its hard to say if we’re rising from the ashes or if we’ve yet to be burned. I don’t think humanity could survive another burning though.
“With your help we can rebuild and reform humanity”,
We’ve been on the edge of extinction for years now; the only reason we’re not gone is because of the Human Eternal Reformation Organization, or H.E.R.O. Their goal is to rebuild human kind so that it’ll never fall or die again. That’s why there’s the Eternal. I doubt it’ll be eternal if they succeed, but no one else has tried anything.
