Grimm We're gonna finally get a dog, but have no idea what breed to get aha xD We have about three acres of yard, and are an active family. We've been around dogs our entire life, and both my parents had dogs when they were younger, so. My mom and I are both allergic to dogs, though my allergy is pretty minor. Either way, my mom doesn't like the look of doodles (which, I mean - I don't know, her opinion, I suppose) and she's kinda stubborn. The only issue is that almost every weekend during the fall and spring, we're at soccer tournaments, as both my brother and I play travel. So traveling is a bit of an issue, and we don't know how to work around that. . So, do you know any medium - large dogs with minimal shedding? Also, I suggested fostering first, to get a feel for owning a dog - opinions on that? What do you reckon would be a smart first move? . Sorry for throwing all of my questions at you aha >.< Hope you don't mind!

Pointers are great family dogs with high energy and Ginger was amazing in car rides, but I'm not exactly an experienced dog person XD

Starry No worries :p I don't mind at all Doodles are not always hypoallergenic, despite what their "breeder" may tell you. Imo doodles are overpriced mutts that are prone to so many issues, and I wouldn't recommend getting one. I can point you to more resources on that if you are interested lmao
If you are looking for a purebred I'd say go with a standard poodle! They have a reputation for being frou-frou dogs but are actually super versatile and easy to train. They were bred for pretty much the same reason as labs and goldens were.
If you are looking for a rescue I'd look into dogs that don't have a double coat, or even better, a more wiry coat. While they DO shed, it's definitely not as much as another dog would.
Also, what breed traits are an absolute nope and what are you willing to work with? For example, do you have small animals in your house? Prey drive could be a deal-breaker in that case

Ah, I know someone who has a poodle, and she's an excellent dog ^^ I might look into that! I don't mind whether the dog is purebred or not, really ^^ We don't have any other pets, but the dog might end up being around horses. Probably not, but maybe. I'm more conscerned for the dog in that scenario, though, as I've seen more than one dog get kicked by a horse when the owner wasn't looking. I'd love an active dog, if possible - I go for runs in the woods often, and we're outside often, so. Intelligence is great for training, but that can backfire a bit. I've grown up with a GSD, and absolutely loved her, so a temperment somewhat similar to that would probably be awesome^^ Also, thank you for answering all my questions haha
