Name
Declan Ormond
Age
18
Gender
Male
Sexuality
Undecided
I’ll decide on his sexuality once I figure out if he has a relationship. If he’s anything other than straight, though, he’s extremely closeted because his parents would kill him if they found out.
Role
The Drifter
Voice
Declan’s voice is fairly deep, and has a mellow, slow feeling to it. He pauses a lot in his speech, except when he’s nervous, which is when he talks incessantly. He has an Irish accent, not bad enough that he’s hard to understand but not light enough that you couldn’t immediately identify it.
Appearance
Declan is extremely Irish-looking. His skin is a medium tan, and he has thick freckles all across his face, down his shoulders, on his upper back, and down the fronts of his arms. His face is fairly narrow, but his cheeks are full and rounded, giving his face an overall oval shape. He has a large nose with a rounded end, giving him a dorky sort of look. It’s crooked from having been broken, and has a prominent bridge. He has thin lips, but typically this isn’t noticeable because his mouth is either half-open or, more commonly, stretched into a big grin. He has overly-large straight white teeth, and his bottom lip tucks under his slight overbites when he grins. He has a slight cleft in his chin, and a high forehead. His hair is dark ginger, and he wears it long, down to his shoulders. It’s stringy and a bit oily, and he doesn’t bother trying to tame it so it sort of hangs limply in strands in front of his face and swept behind his shoulders. When he does have a formal occasion to attend, though, he can slick it back and it doesn’t look half-bad. He has the beginnings of stubble starting to grow in, and he’s hoping to get a beard. His eyebrows are the same color, fairly straight with a curve towards the center of his forehead. He often has the right one arched up. His eyes are big and slightly downturned, giving him a puppy-dog look. They’re also heavily lidded. They’re a light desaturated blue that give him a blank, spaced-out look.
Declan is slightly taller than the average boy his age, about 5’9”. He’s lanky and droopy, with a generally relaxed feeling about him. He’s always draping himself on things, whether it’s melting into chairs or slinging his arm around someone’s shoulders. His head is always ducked slightly, and when he’s looking at someone he likes he tends to tilt his head. He has long limbs, long fingers, long feet, and a long neck. He’s fairly skinny, but not what you would call scrawny. Despite his lackadaisical nature, he’s very clean. He does have terrible posture, though, which he immediately remedies when in a formal situation or in trouble. Seeing him standing up straight seems to add another few inches to him. He has a few scars across his left shoulders and upper back from the accident.
Declan has a variety of interests, and a variety of shirts to reflect this. He has new shirts and old shirts, big shirts and small shirts, yellow shirts and black shirts. The only thing they have in common is that they’re T-shirts, and they have something on them. A picture, words, a meme, whatever it is. He likes to receive new shirts. He’s partial to jeans, mostly slightly large denim ones. He wears black socks or none at all, and his very favorite pair of fancy leather cowboy boots. He has a variety of chunky iron rings, and a golden cross necklace with a corpus. In the company of friends he typically wears a tall black beanie, though he’s very polite about taking it off at the right times. When possible, he’s fond of stealing friends’ hats and swapping them out with his, so he can be seen wearing all sorts of hats around school. He doesn’t tend to mind the elements, and so he’s rarely seen wearing a jacket, scarf, or anything that might protect him from the weather. He does often have occasion to wear a suit, typically with his parents, and he’s equally at home in one of those as in his T-shirt and jeans. He usually keeps the rings and necklace on even for formal occasions.
Personality
Declan would be described by those who just met him as just chill as fuck. He’s a typical stoner with less weed. He seems easygoing and willing to go along with whatever is happening. He’s comfortable in most situations, equally at home in a church mass or a punk mosh pit. He’s a centered, down-to-earth kind of guy, and has a generally sunny outlook on life. He’s not bubbly or sparkling with joy, but seems to always be in a good mood, and can be moved to enthusiasm over things like parties and group activities. He likes to organize events, though this sense of organization rarely extends to the rest of his life. He’s very difficult to anger, no matter what kinds of insults, betrayals, or physical threats are used against him or others. When they’re directed at others, he typically turns his head, pretending not to notice. If it gets bad enough he might step in and pretend to be oblivious to get someone out of a bad situation, but usually he doesn’t feel like trying to intervene. When they’re directed at him, he good-naturedly laughs along, more than willing to put himself down if it means the situation doesn’t escalate. He’s easily pushed around, and never seems phased by anything that happens to him. He’s the kind who desperately clings to the idea of being friends with a person even if that person is bullying him. But typically he doesn’t have to deal with this, because he has enough semi-friends that he doesn’t have to resort to going back to these kinds of people.
Declan is a friendly person, outgoing and readily interacting with absolutely anyone. From the bitchiest bitch to the mousiest shy kid, he’s happy to talk about anything and everything. He mostly likes hearing other people talk, and he’s good at listening and engaging, asking lots of questions about things other people know a lot about. Though he easily makes friends, he has a harder time keeping them. This mostly has to do with the way he flits from group to group. He doesn’t have much loyalty to any one of his friends, and though he very much likes all of them, he wanders in and out of people’s lives. It’s just that he can neve seem to fully connect with people - probably because he spends so little time with them, but he doesn’t seem to have figured that out yet. So when any group seems to have an opening or goes out of their way to include him, he quickly ditches his old friends to jump at the opportunity. Besides all this moving around, he also misses a lot of school because he’s made a habit of skipping out. No matter how often he gets in trouble for this, it doesn’t seem to discourage him. When he’s with a group, he tries extra hard to be close with them. He gets overly-involved and acts like they’re all closer than they are, which tends to irritate people. He also has a tendency to linger around people who aren’t interested in being friends with him, awkwardly hovering around the edges in semi-friend status. He’s partial friends with most of the loners, shy kids, and weirdos in school, because if he sees someone sitting alone he takes it as an invitation to sit next to them and start talking.
Declan has a lot of trouble with school, and is a known slacker. He’s never tried hard at school, and he hardly seems to take it seriously. He’ll laughingly admit that he’s not very smart, and says it’s not worth trying because he’d fail anyway. He hardly seems concerned about his future or what his school records and grades could mean for him. Despite this, he has a certain admiration for intelligent people. He’s starstruck by the straight-A students, and like a fluttering fangirl around the cold and imperiously brilliant. Unlike with all other kinds of people, he can actually be rather shy around people a lot smarter than him. He’s desperately awkward trying to impress them and mirrors them, trying to seem similar to them. What with the jittery nerves, ceaseless talking, and need for attention, many mistake his admiration for a poorly-hidden crush. This is especially confusing because he reacts to real crushes much the same, and he tends to be attracted to smart people, so it’s nearly impossible to tell if he likes someone romantically or not.
Declan hates to spread unhappiness, and he hates to see other people unhappy. He tends not to handle other people’s feelings well, awkwardly trying to cheer them up and just get them to smile so he doesn’t have to deal with the tension of the situation. He’ll use any old platitude he’s heard in a movie or read in a book, desperate to get out of having to help them. He has no idea how to deal with anyone else’s unhappiness or trauma. When getting close to people, Declan really doesn’t want to have to share anything emotional and he doesn’t want anyone to share that with him. A sure way to get him to back off is to get too close emotionally to him. Maybe this is part of why he can’t keep close friends very well. He’s quick to change the subject when these things come up, or to act like he didn’t hear it in the first place. And when asked to share something serious about himself, he tends to make a joke of it, being self-deprecating to deflect the question.
Declan is a social person who loves to be doing activities with his friends. He’s quick to suggest things, and to pressure others into agreeing to go out and do things. He’ll readily take on the role of organizer, and tends to blow things into big events if he’s not stopped. He gets excited over stuff like this, and is particularly fond of thinking of interesting and exotic activities for people to do. He’ll also readily agree to anything anyone else wants to do. He was one of the first to make the prom into a big thing, and enthusiastic to be included in their plans. He was a lot more reckless and spontaneous when he was with the friend group, but he’s gotten more cautious since then. He likes things to be planned out, and “safety first” is something he takes to heart. From a more rebellious and difficult person, he’s mellowed to make more of an effort to be agreeable. He needs things to have a structure when he’s out with his friends, and is cautious when things stray from the plan.
Declan may be the sociable, awkward, dudeish dude in school, but with adults he’s completely different. He’s extremely respectful and much more quiet, and full of “yes sir”s and “no ma’am”s. He does have some trouble with his teachers, but he doesn’t openly argue with them. He’s polite to them, if a bit cheerfully dumb, but just doesn’t make an effort no matter how many times he promises he will. Respect for his elders takes priority over impressing his peers, and he’s been teased for his formal attention to what his parents and other adults tell him. When he’s in trouble with adults, which is more often than he’d like, he drops his eternal smile and wears a thoughtful, attentive look. As soon as he’s away from them, this drops like a stone and it’s like it never happened. He’s extremely agreeable towards adults and will never argue with them even when they’re in the wrong.
Declan’s parents are Irish immigrants, and hardcore Catholics. They hold him to extremely high standards which he inevitably falls short of every time. He’s Catholic as well. Whether he would choose this for himself or not, it’s simply not up to him. His parents would disown him if he rejected their religion. While he’s open to hearing about other religions, it’s not something he’s going to change his mind about. When it comes to church teachings which conflict with his worldview, he tends to gloss over them, not wanting to discuss the complex morals of religion in the real world. It’s almost like his religion and social life are totally separate for him, and he’s not eager to discuss his own feelings on the matter, though he’s perfectly willing to share interesting traditions and religious history.
Younger Appearance
Last year Declan was quite a bit shorter - he’s had a growth spurt since then. Mostly, though, he looked pretty much the same. Maybe a bit more disheveled and colorful, but he hasn’t changed much since then. He, of course, didn’t have the scars then, and his nose wasn’t crooked, as that was before the accident.
Younger Personality
A year ago Declan would have been described by adults as out-of-control and a complete slacker. While that hasn’t totally gone away, everyone is duly impressed with his personal growth. He still skips out on class, yes, and he still can’t focus, but he doesn’t talk back and he’s lost his reckless streak. The good attitude and calm that seems to dictate his life now was much less prominent just a year ago. Though he certainly was still agreeable, he was more prone to bickering and abandoning friends when they got into disagreements. If it’s possible to say someone can grow from trauma, he certainly seems to have. In fact, of all the group, he looks to be the one who came out emotionally unscathed. Maybe it’s just because he wasn’t as close with the group, or maybe he couldn’t stand being unhappy about it for long.

Goals
Declan doesn’t strike anyone as particularly motivated, and for the most part they’re right. But just because he’s not sure about his future it doesn’ mean he doesn’t have goals. Even if his prospects don’t look good, he still holds on to the idea of getting a job in the church so his parents will stop being so disappointed in him. He very much looks forward to moving out and graduating, and sort of forgetting about everything that’s happened in high school. He’s ready to move on with his life.

Relationships
Neassa Ormond
Mother
Declan still lives with his parents. His mother is a housewife, and is more involved in Declan’s life than his father. She’s a very uptight woman, but she does have a good sense of humor and she’s very nice to Declan’s friends so long as they behave themselves.
Tomas Ormond
Father
Declan’s father works as a youth pastor for their church, and he’s often out of the house. He’s less interested in Declan’s future, and mostly lets his wife take care of the children.
Blanid Ormond
Older Sister
Blanid is five years older than Declan, and recently married. She’s a well-behaved young woman with a secret sense of humor for those she’s closest to. Although she and Declan get along well, Blanid is constantly telling him to stop upsetting their parents, so there can be some friction.
Clarissa Reed
Frienemy
Clarissa was Declan’s friend, albeit not a close one. They didn’t always get along, because Clarissa was upset by him joining the group without warning and causing problems. Sometimes they bickered, but mostly they just ignored each other. Sometimes they even got along.
Ikaris Ravik
Friend
Declan and Ikaris have been neighbors for years. Declan took some time to get past Ikaris's shell and become friends with him, and now that Ikaris has forgotten, it's all back to how it was. Maybe it will be easier this time around, though, now that Declan knows what works and what doesn't.
Spencer Hail
Friend
Declan's worked hard to get Spencer to be friendly, but he's a tough nut to crack. He's so fascinated with Spencer's quiet bookwormishness. He doesn't talk to him as much as he used to, but still wants to be friends with him if he could.
Briar Tinuviel
Friend
Declan wants to be Briar's friend more than anyone else. He moons over the very idea of Briar paying him attention, and is obsessed with Briar's aloof intelligence. He's been trying to befriend Briar since they met, and tries desperately hard, not realizing that Briar already sees him as a friend.
Jacy Tollemach
Frienemy
Jacy was very close with Clarissa, and Declan never really got along with her. Jacy was protective of her friend, and the best at getting Declan to back down. They had their spats. They haven't interacted much since the accident, and though Declan doesn't hold a grudge, he gets the feeling that Jacy does.
Alison Davis
Friend
Declan was fairly good friend with Alison. She helped calm him down a bit, and he brought some excitement into her life. She's his secret homework-helper, and though they're not close, he's always willing to talk or hang around when she needs someone.
