Traveler's eyes widened for just a split second. "Yeah, it's quite common. That's like I said though -- survival of the fittest." Traveler spoke, his teeth grinding slightly. No way it could've been his group. He sure to God hoped it wasn't, but he could also be right that it was his group. But when he spoke of a 'burly bouncer', he could only assume one thing -- it was Traveler Ewan was talking about.

Ewan shrugged. "Yeah. Just wish they hadn't done that to me. Stella got bit the next day." He said. He was unaware of what Traveler was thinking about, only explaining his time with other people. Edited at March 13, 2021 07:55 PM by Maleficent

"Losing animals ain't as bad as loosin' people. At least that's how I put it," Traveler stated. He felt like animals were the least of people's concerns nowadays, but the companionship were like no other - dogs were loyal beings and deserved the world. But now, Traveler found himself never thinking about having one. He looked towards Ewan. "Was it just you and your dog?"

Ewan looked up at Traveler. "Yeah, just me and Stella." He said sadly. He fiddled with the water bottle, deep in thought. "She was a young German Shepherd. The only other thing my sister loved besides me." He said, trying to hold back tears.

Stella reminded him of a childhood friend, causing him to scoff slightly with his thin lips curling up into a faint smile before fading. "Your sister - she become one of 'em?" He asked. Probably too personal, Traveler thought, but there was nothing else to talk about unless Ewan would ask Traveler questions - that he would probably never answer.

Ewan looked away, trying not to cry. "She would have... but I couldn't let her suffer." He said, voice breaking at 'suffer'. His green eyes welled with tears as he remembered what happened. He was sitting in the house in Denver beside his twin sister, scared. He had decided they needed supplies and had gone out to get them, coming back to find an infected on the floor of the kitchen and her trembling. "He bit me... he bit me." She would say over and over again. Ewan didn't know what to do. Her eyes were already bloodshot. It wouldn't be long before it destroyed her completely. Ewan whimpered, closing his eyes tightly. "I hate remembering that." He whispered.

Traveler took notice to how emotional Ewan got. Traveler simply believed in just moving on when something happened. Good, bad, decent -- he simply moved on and what happened, happened. It would be done and over with. He took notice into how deep of thought Ewan was in. He would be remembering the moment of when Ewan had to end it. Traveler had to do that for his own daughter, but it was something the man would never, ever speak about or let it be known. He huffed slightly. "Shit like that is hard, but we've got everything else to worry about." Traveler stated.

Ewan took a deep breath, realizing that he was showing emotion. He cleared his throat. "Just need to survive." He said. He pulled a locket out of the backpack he had been carrying and then a bag of trail mix, handing it to Traveler. "For the meds and water." He said.

"Surviving is the only thing that'll get you by nowadays," Traveler said with a slight inahle. He watched as Ewan reached into his pack, pulling out something and then a bag of trail mix. "Thanks," he said softly, taking the food and setting it on the desk. "You got anywhere you need to go? You seem like you don't know this place very well."

Ewan shrugged. "Was only headed toward the rumor of safety. I don't have a clue what state nor city I am in, only that I am here." He said with a sigh. A yawn forced its way onto his features. He sighed again. "Never enough time.." he said.
