Rowan was extremely willing to show Neo around the horses. They all liked him, since he was quiet and gentle, and had been waiting for him to give the OK. She was a horseman, and had assessed the horses. Her Frost was the most trained, but that came with being a war horse. Most did have training, and were under saddle, and had been the previous mounts of the people in the town. It made her heart clench, but she had to stay strong. That day she stayed inside, and spent her time sewing up the tears in her clothing. Even though she was a knight, and hadn't really ever gotten the proper lessons to be a lady, Rowan knew how to sew, even if it was bad.

Neo had also stayed inside that day. Working on creating his dad's old rabbit stew recipe that really was the best. He'd gotten really close lately and he had recorded past attempts in a little journal so that each time he could get a little closer to getting his father back. Alvaro knocked on the door right as Neo finally finished his stew. Immediately the boy whirled around in bewilderment before realizing it was just the door. He wouldn't be opening it though. Not after the last time he'd opened a door and accidentally let in those people who'd killed his family.

Rowan got off her chair and went to the door, looking quickly out a window to see Alvaro. She opened it up, and smiled, "Hello there. Come on in - I hope nothing is wrong." Like normal Rowan wore her pants and a light cotton long-sleeve shirt. She wore pretty much nothing else.

Alvaro took a step inside, allowing his wings to be pulled back in. All faeries made their shirt with a large, almost triangular shape on their back where wings would go. Alvaro's shirts included. "Nothing's wrong, if anything there's a bit of good news about the border." Alvaro gave Rowan one of his regular smiles, though it didn't look as cocky as normal with him being such a mess.

Rowan was concerned, but kept her cool, "Good, good! Come sit down, then. Some rest would be good."
Idk what to say for her - can you tell Rowan the news, and then maybe Alvaro asks her about her life or something

Alvaro happily sat down and looked up as he heard someone moving about the kitchen. It was Neo obviously, the young boy almost smiling. "Would anyone like something to eat?" Alvaro couldn't deny the boy, he looked so happy to have made food for some reason. "Uh, sure yea." Neo waited for Rowan's answer before skipping back into the kitchen. Meanwhile, Alvaro's face turned a little more serious. "Well, there's been a bit of progress with the barrier. I was able to deconstruct a good lot of it and rebuild it. So now it's fine in that sector. There's still a lot of work to do and I really can't do it alone anymore." He looked up at Rowan with a completely serious expression. "If you're willing, I would like if you could help me. If you want to of course, I'd have to ask a few personal questions though. To gauge your magic level."

Rowan set her sewing to the side, "Of course. That's the reason I stayed - to help. My story though... that may take a while to hear. If you want the whole thing, that's fine, or you could ask your questions." Despite keeping her two lives a secret from the other side, Rowan was an open book. Especially in the faerie village, where she wasn't judged for being a female.

Alvaro seemed surprised at Rowan's reaction. His body relaxing as he'd realized he'd be here for awhile. "I have all day. Really. I have nothing else to do. So you can go ahead and tell me your story if you feel comfortable enough to." Alvaro wasn't used to asking if someone was comfortable with his questions. Faeries all were truthful and completely trustworthy. It was why there wasn't any crime in these town and they didn't even do doors unless it was a guest house like Rowan's.

(i know we updated to New Medieval, so this isn't all correct, but... i don't want to rewrite it, so we can just take the basic knowledge as still true and stuff)) - Rowan sat back in her chair, and took a deep breath. She assumed that Neo might also be listening, so spoke slightly louder for him. ""So, I assume you've heard of Britain? Which rose up in recent times under the strong High King Aldwin? Well, my mother is Gwendolyn, his queen. It was in the time that the war with Rome happened that I was conceived. It was when Aldwins right hand man was King, as he had disappeared. For the safety of her unborn children, and hope that Aldwin would return, Gwendolyn stayed as his queen. There she gave birth to Fenor and Helen, children of Aldwin. I was a child of the fill in king. Once Aldwin came back, I was the illegitimate princess. Luckily, Aldwin is a kind man, and took me as his own. As I grew up, I found myself following in my mother's footsteps with her love for riding, and not being the perfect Princess and woman people were looking for. Perhaps if I had been more like Helen..."" Rowan shook her head, ""No matter. I am the way I am. Anyways. The people couldn't accept me like they did my mother. I enjoyed hunting, was always a mess and hardly ever wore dresses. And I'm not pretty like my mother. I'm quite plain. She could still a man or woman with a look... But because of that I left the palace when I was 14. I left with only telling one person in advance, so no one could stop me. I don't think they would have, looking back on it now. My family knew I was restless. Perhaps it was because I was afraid if I told my mother I was leaving the look on her face would have made me stay. I didn't want to stay. So, I chopped off all my hair, and instead of Rowan Stonewall I became Roman Stone - the son of a small lord who wanted to be a knight."" Rowan rubbed her hands together, the hard callouses reminding her off alll the broken bones, blood, and hurting that went into that dream. ""I went to a far away manor that trained young boys to be knights. I started late - everyone else began at 12 - and shouldn't have made it. But, I worked hard and pushed myself past my limits. In the eight years I spent there, only... only four people knew my secret. In those eight years was the Great War. It ravaged all of Britain... I suppose Rome hadn't been beaten down completely all those years ago... and in that war I made a name for myself, I suppose. In a battle, my group was outnumbered 1 to 6. We should have all died - our commander had been struck down, and everyone looked like lost sheep. I raised my shield and called the troops to me, and turned the tide of the war. That was the battle at Tych - the battle that ended the war. My blade was the steel that kissed the High Commanders neck, and ended the fight and war. But, because I didn't want attention drawn to myself, I let someone else take my victory. I wasn't Roman who won the war. I was simply a warrior, not that there is any shame there."" Rowan pulled out her blade, and thumbed the sharp metal, ""I have killed. I have struck people down with my sword and arrows, and lived to tell the tale. It makes me sick every time, but in war, there is no choice. It's either kill or be killed."" She sheathed the sword, and continued on. ""By this time I was 22. The manor knew it was I who won the war, but begrudgingly let another take the victory and promised not to tell. They didn't know why, but agreed. I knew it was time to leave, then. I was a full fledged knight, with my shield and all, and could go where I pleased. Only problem - I was still flat out broke. I have a way with horses, and made my money off of training them, and hunting, along with an occasional job. From there I've gone from town to town, until the town here... and well... you know the rest."" Edited at July 18, 2020 02:06 AM by bumblebee

Holy crap I can't reply with something as long as yours I feel bad lol))
Neo had appeared from the kitchen and had listened intently to Rowan. He didn't like the whole blood aspect, but he did understand that his adoptive mother was a hero. His eyes lit up and even Alvaro seemed genuinely surprised by Rowan's story. And impressed. Not because she was a woman, since faeries didn't have a superior gender, they viewed each other all as equals. He was impressed because Rowan still remained strong after all of that, She had killed many and he respected that, it was the way the world was. He was about to say something when Neo began speaking rapidly. "Oh my god, you're an actual hero! And you take care of me. You're like..I dunno my adoptive mom. My mom is a hero!" Alvaro smiled as the child just stood there in awe.
