Rowan was never good at sugarcoating words. "Neo... I'm so sorry, but they are dead. The raiders killed them." Rowan flinched as visibly as if she had been smacked with a sword. Tears welled in her eyes, and for just a single moment, Rowan let them show. |

The impact of the words wasn't immediate. As if they took time to set in. And when they set in, Neo began to shake his head. "No no no. They aren't dead. My dad was a guard, he was awesome at fighting. He wouldn't have let them kill him or mom." But Neo knew it wasn't true. Tears began slipping down his face. And then he wasn't sobbing. His small body shaking with the force of his sobs. At one point he closed his mouth and screamed against his teeth. His parents. They were gone. And Alvaro knew the pain the boy was going through. The same exact pain had carved a deep mark into his own heart. Alvaro looked at the boy sadly, poor child. |

Rowan sat down on the ground. She didn't smile, or try to make him happy. But she did open up her arms, "If you need a shoulder to cry on...." Idk I'm struggling |

The boy said nothing. His head in his hands as he cried. A few guards came in to take the dead faerie and a hysterical man came in and screamed when he saw her broken body. Neo shrank away from the faeries, especially the man who seemed so sad. Alvaro winced, when faeries bonded, they were tied together for life. Everything that his wife had felt, the man felt too. Her horror and adrenaline. Which was why Alvaro had never bonded with anyone, he couldn't even imagine the pain. Athena couple had been together for 100 years or so. They were as close as possible without being physically connected. Her name had been Mary and her husband was Seth. The man rounded on Alvaro and began to yell. "Where were you? Why didn't you protect her like you're sworn to?" Alvaro took it with a sorrowful expression, he knew plenty well that this way his fault. He deserved to take the blame. The guards carefully took the man away and a few apologized to the second in command. |

In the end, Rowan moved to Neo, and scooped up the boy. She remained seated, and placed him in her lap. She sang lightly - the same song she always sung when her horses were scared. This song had no 'immortal' magic in it. It was the magic of her greatest ancestors, Gwen had told her, The Stonewall family had the magic of the animals. Gwen said her mother had birds. Gwen and Rowan have horses. Rowan wasn't sure if it would work, but she might as well give the soothing magic and song a chance. |

Neo stopped shaking but continued to sob. Small, painful noises coming out of his mouth. It was understandable, he had just lost everything he had ever known and had replaced it with faeries. Faeries. Something he hadn't even believed in till now. Alvaro couldn't do much to help, he was still standing awkwardly in the corner. A messenger faerie came to the door and they began to whisper in small voices. Not wanting to disturb the distressed child who was slowly calming in Rowan's arms. |

Rowan continued to sing, and slowly stroked the child's back. Her body moved in a rocking motioned. Rowan had closed her eyes and blocked out everything but the hurting child in her arm. He was a child, and had to go through all of this. Her veins burned with both anger and sorrow. |

The child relaxed in Rowan's arms. He had buried himself in Rowan's neck and slowly fell asleep there. His sobs coming to a slow stop and soon he was just sniffing every now and then. Finally, he was quiet. The exhausted child was asleep. |

After a while, Rowan ceased her singing, and kept slowly rocking the child. Her hand rubbed against his back, and Rowan figured that for her first time around kids, she was doing pretty well. She had left before her younger brother was born. |
