One that preserves the meaning would be "non-essential", though it doesn't quite convey the feeling of being expensive that luxury does. I wouldn't worry too much about being suspected of plagiarism. As an avid thesaurus user, I've never had a problem, and sentence structure matters more for your natural voice.

Most of the synonyms for luxury appear too posh or wouldn't make sense in context. Depending on your usual writing style, you could also be suspected of potential plagiarism because you're using words and/or terms outside of your normal vernacular.

I loved writing papers in high school. Teachers would give us assignments three papers long and I would be like "Oh! So the length of a decent sized fanfic!"
That's how I mostly got through ELA and college writing classes. Just treat everything like a fanfic, no matter the subject. :')
