i think maybe something to do with the colours? superheros usually have two or three bright primary colours, and this guy really only has red
making parts of the metal colourful might help (and you can add wear/damage marks with the original metal showing through if you still want it to be clear that its metal [if you decide to colour the entirety of the metal and not just some of it])
