Some Cea Lore;

Yes - his dad and grandparents were Riders and so were a lot of Ancestors before them. However, his dad was possibly obsessed making sure the legacy continues - so he began training Mircea. It started off as rather wholesome father-son bonding time but when he reached the age of 11 and 12 it became rather more intense. Doing stuff longer, more dangerous things. For example, climbing more dangerous cliffs, more intense sparring, intense studying and other tactics. So much so he began losing sleep and even hurt himself when doing some things.

And whenever he was didn't do well or live up to his fathers expectations he was told by his father that he was a disgrace or bad child. And the last thing his father told him before he died was this, "You're a pathetic little brat. You'll never live up to my standards and you won't ever measure up to becoming a rider."

So that's part of my why he's so obsessed with becoming one.

Valine doesn't have "wings" persay. She has more frills on her elbows, and hocks that connect to her underside. So Mircea couldn't exactly hide underneath her 'wings'
