~Ielia's memories~
Winter was here. I wonder how many times I've seen snow, beautiful snow, which reminds me of spring coming soon. Spring, when I was born.
My daughters ran around, playing fight with Rufus and Azalea's son Stormpaw. The older pup was softly tackling my daughters, as if teaching them how to fight.
"They're precious, aren't they?" Willowbreeze's barked softly.
"Of course, Willowbreeze. Camillapaw will be a great wrestler. Ashpaw and Leopardpaw will be great fighters in their new packs." I gazed sadly at my younger daughters. They will be adopted by other packs in a few moons, and I know that it's a good thing, but I still find it sad.
"Like Hiroto. And Trippy." Willowbreeze murmured.
I turned to the white she-wolf.
"Yes. Just like them." I held her gaze for a moment. "Willowbreeze, I know you're in love with Hiroto."
The medi-wolf's head jerked up. Her light-blue eyes were round and full with surprise.
"H-How-"
"I know a she-wolf in love when I see one." I growled. "You fear that he won't love you, and you fear that if you confess it to him he might not talk to you anymore."
"Ielia, stop, please." Willowbreeze whimpered. "Okay, I'll be honest with you, I do love Hiroto...and I do fear that he doesn't love me."
"My son is a remarkable boy."
"But he knows." Willowbreeze blurted out. "He knows...that I love him. And he still talks to me."
"I've noticed." I murmured. "Like his father, he's such a sweet boy. He never treats anyone unfairly."
"That's why he's so popular." Willowbreeze sighed. "But he'll never look at me as his mate. To him, I'm just his best friend."
"Couldn't that be more than enough?" I gazed straight at the medi-wolf. "You are the closest to him, more than Amarisheart."
"I really wonder what is with between them." Willowbreeze growled. "I envy her."
"I can tell." I nodded at the champagne-colored she-wolf sharing a woodchuck with Mistlefoot. "She's deaf-but the most sharp of all of us."
"But-" Willowbreeze looked away. "If-if Hiroto becomes mates with Amarisheart I-I won't envy her. I'd-I'd celebrate them. I want Hiroto to be happy."
I gazed silently at her as she walked away. Then, I turned and padded over to my son.
"You heard?"
Hiroto nodded silently.
"What do you think."
"Mother, Willowbreeze is my best friend-I can't go that path down with her, I just can't." Hiroto choked.
"I know what you mean." I licked my son's head. "Life's hard, but you'll find a way, just like your brother Trippy was like."
