Happiness was always a part of his life. But it was unfortunate that about what happiness was was not homogeneous among the world.
Sometimes he could see little sparks across his eyes, and they made him happy. They seemed to make others happy too.
The pup grinned a little ruefully. "I'm not starving or anything. It's nothing to be worried about. I'm strong, see," he explains, and his mother laughs, burying her face into his little body to hide tears. It was the first time they appeared, and they rested.
After his mother's death Champ continued their nomad journey. Their appearance was like seeing an old friend again.

It shocked even him when he settled into a pack, going to far to become beta male. The pack was always an amiable place to live.
Except sometimes he could feel the presence of little sparks like his own. Maybe his version of happiness of scewed because he only feels dread at these.
