Biography
A wolf skulked through the trees of the desolate forest, movements stiff and robotic with old age. He was alone, no wolf in sight to keep him company through the harsh months of winter. His name was a name that was left unspoken, as it carried with it the weight of a sickening past. White Mask was the name of the aged wolf, based off of the white fur framing eyes that have seen too much, a nose that had scented too much bloodshed; a mouth that had spilled too much blood. His name used to be a badge of honour, an identity for himself. Now? It was a name he frowned, a malicious reminder of a sickening memory of the past. The white-faced wolf`s paws crunched against the new snow underfoot, slowly moving to a river flowing too fast to be caught in winter`s icy clutch. Lowering himself without grace onto the hardened bank, the wolf`s eyes focused on the movements of the water, memories of his past spilling freely into his mind. Images came without warning, flooding into his mind as fast as the river flowed downstream.
His first memory of the events was the metallic scent of blood wafting into his nose; the innocent blood of pups. Around him, the small bodies of young wolves lay limp, no rise and fall of the chests. Lifeless, the source of the metallic scent pouring out through their fur. Warm blood stained White Mask`s maw and paws. The pups` blood. The pups he killed.
It was mostly silent, White Mask looking at the warm corpses, almost jumping at the sound of a quiet whimper. A survivor. The juvenile wolf slowly made his way closer until a growl pushed him back. The rest of the pack. White Mask whispered an apology to the mother of the surviving pup as she went past. Apologising for the fatalities he had caused. An apology for the blind rage his actions were done in.
An apology for desroying the next generation of this pack.
White Mask stayed beside his silent mother as small graves were dug, his ears perking at the sight of a grave extra being dug. Didn`t a pup survive? The mother of the surviving pup slowly remade her entrance, carrying her pup in her jaws. It was silent and limp. Too injured to ever heal. Out of harsh kindness, its pain was ended. All pups were soon submerged in the frosting ground, still damp with blood.
There was a moment of silence, until the mother of the last pup turned on White Mask`s. Eyes glassy with building up tears that were sure to soon spill, she howled into the abyss of the night; "Did we not predict this?! Did we not say he would try for the alpha position, and take revenge when he didn`t succeed?! We told you to leave him to survive on his own, away from the pack; but you didn`t listen! Too soft were you to end the life of a murderer; now, we have lost the lives of our next generation!"
White Mask`s mother pulled her son away by that point, not needing him to listen to anymore. She pulled him to the edge of a fast-flowing river, sighing softly. She needed to do what she should have done in the first place; it was in the best interests of everyone. Nuzzling her only child, the female pulled away, nudging White Mask. Her eyes were heavy, heavy with the burden of what she said;
"White Mask, go. Leave the pack, now. They will kill you; they will do what I never could." With that, she started to move away, leaving the young male on his own.
White Mask tried to follow after, howling for his mum. However, she never came back. White Mask`s ears perked at the sound of foreign sounds. It growled as it approached, other sounds blooming. Human voices. They were drawn closer by White Mask`s howling, now looking for profit.
White Mask yelped as he hid, thinking of himself out of blind terror. He didn't think of his mother until the loud boom of gunshot pierced the eerie silence. Another shot, accompanied by a loud yelp. After a minute of scuffling, then the growling began again. Soon, the silence rebloomed, stiffling after the sounds just beforehand. White Mask soon came out of hiding, nose to the ground. He soon came across a clearing. Blood stained the dying grass. His mother's, who died afterwards.
Teeth yanked at the male`s scruff, pulling the elderly wolf to shore; he was weak with hunger and fatigue, and couldn't fight back. A kind-faced wolf looked over him, smiling gently. The elderly wolf looked away, choking on his words; "Leave me be. I have killed pups. I am nothing but a murderous traitor"
Amusement filled the wolf`s eyes, alongside compassion and sympathy "You are like the Loose Pebble that sits in the bottom of the Stream. Come with me to my pack; everyone deserves their second chance"
