Preacher, the Valiant
Never before had such a creature roamed the North; more bear than wolf, it sometimes seemed, with smoldering kerosene eyes and rows of teeth lining his black gums. Solidly built, barrel-chested and lithe, he was a force to be reckoned with.
But Preacher was also a fair leader. As a loner, expelled from his pack of origin by a father that saw him as a threat, Preacher came upon the pack in the midst of a drought.
The Alpha couple back then had been twisted into tyrants by the never-ending, dusty, miserable days that turned into years in that agonizingly slow fashion that can drive any sane creature mad. Preacher saw them for what they were and quickly overpowered the two, taking lead of the downtrodden group of wolves. He did what the previous alphas couldn't bear to do: he left the desert and the Stoney mountains behind and took for the cold, forested lands of the North.
Along the way he met another traveling wolf. Her name was Samara, and she had left her homeland after a terrible feud between packs had slain her friends and family, the wolves she had grown up with. Samara was kind, if not guarded, and Preacher took an instant liking to the dark-pelted female. Within two moons Samara became the new alpha female. She was built for it, and the two became fair, powerful leaders.
The pack thrived in the mountains of their new home. Preacher lived a long, full life when he passed into the Otherworld, surrounded by comrades and family. His face can be seen in the faces of his children, in Barcelona-- the daughter that took his place on the throne.
