If life is so precious, why can it be taken so easily?
Violina's lips began to curl back in the beginnings of a snarl. Her dark azure orbs, flaming dangerously, flicked toward the rustling of bushes near the left of the forest clearing. Muscles tensing, she whipped to face the intruder, then sharply halted when Zitherust slipped out from the ferns. His eyes met hers with a slow softness, and with a dip of his head, he murmured, "It's just me, Violi."
She stared for a hard moment, finding it shamelessly impossible to tear her gaze away from his. So instead, she sat down, claws tickling the damp ground.
A long sigh escaped the creamy male's muzzle. He padded close until his nose brushed hers, faint dusk light washing his figure. At once, as if the world had shattered, affection flooded into Violina's chest - she listened to the soothingly rhythmic sound of his breath and smiled.
Fragments of my heart fell at his paws. It was like a dream; a state of losing reality, falling into a trance of temporary bliss. I was lost.
"You're the only one I'll ever trust; the only one I'll ever love." She whispered, lowering her cranium to his chest and feeling the vibration of his pleased rumble. Though he shifted to put a forepaw underneath her chin, holding her head close to his. The darkness surrounding them seemed to swallow the forest and every lifeform within it; words couldn't express the concentration that each fiercely displayed on one another.
"Promise me you'll always stay with me." Violina stepped away to knead the earth gleefully with her forepaws.
"Of course." Zitherust's tail swayed before he lapped her ears. "Always, Violi."
Always. He promised. But... it was just sweet lies. I wish I could say differently.
"But there's just one problem." Zitherust purred, nuzzling the side of her neck. Suddenly he slammed her down with a roar of fury, his claws ripping through her skin, teeth glazing down her throat.
"I never loved you in the first place."
Shock blazed through Violina's veins, coursing through her soul, until she was forced to obey every instinct. With a wail, she sliced down his stomach, an expression of absolute terror and disbelief plastered on her features. He flung himself off of her with a yelp of pain, staggering down.
And I was left to watch him die. From that moment I knew that love was a fantasy - just artificial worthlessness.
Now I live to see others suffer; to see others bleed. Because it reminds them that, no matter how many lies they've been told, no matter how sweet their fake love was, they all still die.
