Kage (影) means Shadow in Japanese
He whined.
The small slate colored male pup laid on the ground. His mother and siblings nowhere to be found. The ground was covered with snow. He kept whining but it couldn't be heard over the howling snow storm. But he kept whining hoping someone could hear him. He laid in the snow-covered ground, under the shadow of the big willow tree, slowly dying due to the cold winter wind. He couldn't move or see but he could smell a faint scent of two she-wolves. The scent became stronger and stronger until it surrounded him.
"I'm taking him back to the pack. I'll take him in" said one of the she-wolves. Although the other she-wolf didn't say anything, she let the latter take him in. The pup felt himself get picked up and carried. When the she-wolves came back to their pack. The alpha was mad but nevertheless, let them take him in. The she-wolf that took him in was named Mento. Mento named the slate pelted pup Kage, meaning shadow.
A few months after Mento took Kage in, Kage was to be trained to hunt and fight. Mento's younger brother, Naci, was to train him. Although Naci was a few months younger than Kage, he was one of the best fighters and hunters in the pack. Naci's pelt was much like his sister, light gray with darker gray spots at his legs, underbelly and face. His personality, however, was nothing like his sister. The latter was ruthless and made Kage train hard everyday. However, after the training, Naci was always nice. That was the side that Kage loved most. Soon Kage and Naci were best friends.
One day, Kage found a young she-wolf from another pack. Naci and Kage had a fight about it. Naci knew the she-wolf was from a rival pack. Kage was to in love to notice. Kage and Naci got into a fight that left Naci more injured than Kage. Naci had more wounds than Kage did. Enraged, Kage ran to one of the packs territories. There he found the she-wolf he met. The she-wolf was able to persuade Kage to lead her back to the pack. He failed to smell the other unfamiliar scents.
When they reached the pack, Kages pack was surprised by the she-wolfs pack. The two packs fought but the other was much more stronger. Kage was able to fight most of them off but got separated from his pack. While trying to find the others, Kage found Nacis motionless body. Nacis breathing was shallow and heavy. His wounds from Kage earlier had reopened and was bleeding heavily from them as well as the other wounds . He was on the verge of death.
Kage began to realize that all of this was his fault. If only he had listen to Naci, none of this wouldve happened. Kage kept apologizing to his old mentor and friend. Naci accepted the apologies and said everything was fine. Ill see you soon, was Nacis last words to Kage. Kage never found out what happened to Mento nor his pack. From then on, he was a lone wolf.
Kage became cold-hearted and his trust was hard to earn in fear of losing or hurting someone he loved. One day he met a she-wolf his age that didnt have a pack. She was allowed to stay with him since he didnt have anything to lose at that time. Her name was Hina and she reminded Kage so much of Naci. Her pelt was the same as Naci, light grey with darker grey spots. They had the same personality as well, hard and ruthless when hunting but nice and caring every other time. Kage and Hina became close with each other. Kage learned to trust Hina and soon fell in love with the she-wolf. Kage and Hina decided to start a pack and named it Valhalla Pack. Although Kages trust was still hard to earn, he was able to trust some wolves into the pack. Soon after starting the pack, Hina became pregnant with Kage's future pups and the packs next alphas.
