Biography Nyx was the Greek goddess (or personification) of the night. Homer described her as the subduer of gods and men, and relates that even Zeus stood in awe of her. Older and more powerful than Zeus, he deferred to her wishes. Her children include Hypnos (god of sleep), Thanatos (god of death), Aither (god of light), Hemera (goddess of day), and Erebos (god of darkness). Her appearances in mythology are sparse, but reveal her as a figure of exceptional power and beauty. Typically depicted swathed in dark veils, she is found in the shadows of the world and only ever seen in glimpses.
