"Mudslide!" A wolf howled. Suddenly, wolves were zipping back and forth, quickly gathering as much supplies as they could. A young black pup with a white chest and muzzle stumbled out of under a tree where she had been sleeping.
"Mama?" She yipped, looking around groggily. But her mother was nowhere to be seen. "Mama!?" She yelled, a little more nervously. She looked up the mountain as the mud made it's way down towards the pack's camp. She then looked opposite of the mudslide, at the edge of the cliff the pack's camp was on. She whimpered nervously. "Mama!? Mama!?" She yelled, running through the other wolves. "Mama!? Where are you!?" She cried. She continued searching for her mother until all the other wolves had left the pack territory. The mudslide had gotten very close now, and time was running out. She ran back to the tree she had been sleeping under. There, a pup that looked just like her sat.
"Sister? What's going on?" The pup said, sleepily. She took a bit to answer. The fear and reality hitting her. Their pack did not want them. Their mother did not care if they lived or died. She looked at the mudslide. Her sister following her gaze. Her sister gasped.
"We have to run!" She yelled to sister. "The pack has left us! We have to leave!" She turned, running toward safety, but stopped. She looked back. Her sister was still sitting under the tree, frozen with fear. She ran back to her. "Come on!" She said, nipping her ear. But she still didn't move. She grabbed her sister's scruff, pulling as hard as she could, finally, she got up and began to run.
Reaching a spot where she was out of the way of the mudslide, the pup stopped, and turned around. Only to find her sister feet behind frozen with fear again. "Sister!" She screamed. "Come on!" She began to run back to her sister, she knew it was risky, the mudslide was gaining. She had barely made it back onto the dangerous terrain when she felt a hard jolt in the back of her neck. She dangled about two feet off the ground.
"Gotcha." A gruff male's voice said.
"Nooo! Let me gooo! She needs meee!" The pup screamed, wriggling around, trying to free herself from his jaws. Yet it was no use. The mud was just inches from her sister.
"Bring her to me, Maximus! She does not need to see that!" A female wolf called. The male holding the pup swung her around just seconds before her sister was swallowed by the mudslide. The pup squealed for her sister, but she was gone. The male walked towards the female and set the pup down in front of her. The female looked down upon the pup with kind, sympathetic blue eyes. The pup's emerald eyes were full of tears.
"Come here." The female said softly. The pup began sobbing as she burrowed deep in the female's soft fur. "It's okay. Everything is okay now. My Belladonna." She said soothingly.
The female set the pup down on a soft moss bed in her den. The pup, still in shock looked up at her.
"You are my pup now." She said soothingly. "I will take care of you. And I will love you. What is your name?" She asked. The pup stared at her for the longest time.
"I can't remember." She whispered.
" Very well then. I shall name you Belladonna. Is that okay with you?" She asked. The pup nodded. The female laid down, wrapping around Belladonna. She began licking her, cleaning the dirt off her pelt.
"My name is Saffron." she said calmly. "My mate's name is Maximus. He is the one who saved you earlier." Belladonna listened to her new mother's voice. It was soft and sweet. She remembered her own mother's voice. She remembered that there was a darkness to it. Saffron though, she did not have that darkness.
"Mother?" A voice cut into Belladonna's thoughts. She looked over at then opening of the den. A young female wolf had appeared. She was
