I never thought I'd message here but here we are. Well, in my opinion it's your bird. :( What's going to happen if you microchip your bird without her permission but with her knowledge? Is she going to kick you out or something?

Pros:

- You're pleasing your gran.

- You're putting trust in your bird to not somehow escape.

- You keep your money.

Cons:

- You can't track Gizmo if he escapes.

- You're spending your money in a way that you want.

- You're disappointing your gran.

Personally, I would keep an eye on Gizmo and his habits, make sure he knows to be in your line of sight (or with you) when you're outside, what have you. Maybe you should talk about the benefits of microchipping, and that it will not harm him. I would also throw in that I would be heartbroken if I lost him--and since these birds live for a long time (more time for them to escape, (I once had a duck disappear and it hurt to find out), it would be good to have that insurance.

Think of it as having an Air Tag on your luggage; sure you might not lose the bag so it isn't "necessary", but it's there for your peace of mind and in case an incident actually does happen.
