I knew it was a cat, so you're on the right path! Looks good so far. I learn best from YouTube tutorials or those "how to draw ____" books.

Tracing is also an option. I have totally done that. Especially with cats; they're too liquid.

I do a lot of refences. However, I kinda mix them together. Like, I look at a photo of a real animal and take (let's say) it's body shape. I.e. the torse length, the legs' bulk, or just its pattern. Then, I'll look up another photo and specify it ta get exactly what I want. Totally did that with some of my dragon tails.
