The dogs wake up, eat breakfast, then must wait for pen doors to open. Meanwhile, Kampe, on her usual rounds, checks up on the Cull resting area. Hoffen goes off to prepare his regiment, and Axel is unresponsive. Beta deems him unfit for command, and though it is not stated directly in the writing of Wilou, it is implied that she ends up removing (killing) him. His mech parts are then recycled, and his body is disposed of somewhere.
The dogs step into Pen no. 1, the holding pen solely for the use of the two joint regiments, Foxtrot and Bravo. It's winter, so it's freezing outside, and the sky is gray. Commander Hoffen passes inspection, and the regiments enter the training arena, where a training excersize begins. The arena is built in a way that it is a simulator for the dogs. They simply enter the arena, and when Beta wishes to start the simulation, the dogs will dissapear in the eyes of any humans or dogs watching the arena through the windows above. They will be able to run for miles without hitting the arena wall. The simply aren't there any more, but rather, teleported to a virtual world where they can feel everything. Very advanced tech, simply put.
The excersize is a simple Hunter and Prey game. One regiment chases the other through the virtual city, set in the dead of night during winter. They can feel the cold, and one of the characters even gets frostbitten, as well as bonus hypothermia. The training excersize goes too far when Orden, a Bravo Halfblood, goes after Maze, a Foxtrot Wolfblood. Pfiel, a Bravo dog that is close friends with Maze, reacts off of instinct. To protect his own friend, even though there was no violent intention on Orden's part, he attacks her. An entire brawl breaks out between the regiments, and Anfall, a Bravo Wolfblood, ends up tearing out Maze's eye, though not on purpose.
Hoffen, Foxtrot's commander, and Kampe, the Chief, end up having to rush in a break up the fight. Kampe decides that Pfiel is of more value than Maze, and a greater punishment to him was not his own death, but the death of Maze. She orders Hoffen to remove her, but Hoffen's transmitter begins to glitch out, and with no correct wiring to stop him, and lashes out at her. The two fight, Kampe coming out on top, but in the process, Hoffen revealed a flashback of his memory. It is from here that Kampe first begins to understand that Hoffen isn't a normal Cull - transmitters are never faulty.
In terms of injury, Maze loses her right eye, Zadolt, the Foxtrot aussie mix gets hypothermia and frostbite, Orden gets minor lacerations across her side from shards of ice, and Hoffen has a slash across his face. The simulation ends, and immediately, all he require medical attention are given it. The dogs go to the holding pens while everyone tries to figure everything out. Advanced tech pretty much means that wounds are far easier to heal.
Once everyone is settled as best as possible, and not bleeding out, Kampe introduces three new characters: two Charlie dogs, Alta and Rache, who are to lead by example. Aadya, part of the Parvus project, is to train under Kampe.
Imma pause right there and catch my breath heh
